I Really Messed Up….I’m Such An Idiot!
I had a car accident a few years ago and needed to see a Pain Management doctor. He put me on 4 – Oxycodone 15mg a day. After about a year I noticed it wasn’t working as well, so I asked my doc to up me. He said no. I know this friend who drinks poppy pod tea, and he said it works great along with his Oxy. The problem is that I was stupid enough not to think it was illegal because I was able to buy it on the internet. Well…. I got dumped from my PM doc when he saw Morphine (from the poppy’s) in my urine in a drug test, I had no idea that was in there until now.
OK….I want to get off this devil of drugs. I have 70 pills of Oxycodone 15mg left, plus about 2 lbs. of poppy pod tea left. Can anyone here help me? I want to get off EVERYTHING without going through withdrawals. Is it possible with what I have left? How should I go about a week by week schedule with what I have left to finally be done with this evil stuff? |
So you've been on 60mg. per day. And you've only got 70 - 15mg of Oxy left. Hmm. Not sure how you're gonna do that ~ and i don't have a CLUE about the Poppy pod tea.
If I was advising someone JUST about the drugs, i'd advise them the FIRST week to cut down to 60mg, the 2nd week to 50mg - I usually prefer to do it in 5mg steps by using a pill cutter. But as it is, you don't have enough to do a real good taper. You'll use them up in a heartbeat. You're going to have to "make do" with the tea ~ I don't know how you'll do that. By hit and miss I guess. But you're going to somehow have to taper the tea too. Good luck on THAT. Best of luck ~ I hope it works. Don't you have the pain anymore? I hope not for your sake. God bless. Peace, Lee |
Thanks Leesa. I'll still be in pain, but I don't care, I want to get off this garbage.
Does anyone know if 70 pills will be enough to get me detoxed without withdrawels? |
I got to figuring it out ~ yes you might have enough. But you're going to need to get a pill cutter ~ you can get them at any Pharmacy. This schedule I'll give you will keep you as comfortable as I can make you:
For the first week take: 3 1/2 tablets every day Second week 3 tablets Third week 2 1/2 tablets Fourth 2 tablets Fifth 1 1/2 tablets Sixth 1 tablet Seventh 1/2 tablet You shouldn't have trouble with this schedule, but if you do it will be minimal. I doubt you'll have ANY. Some people reduce at 10mg steps, but to me that's just too much. It brings on the "creepy crawly" feelings. After you've gotten thru this taper, THROW OUT all remaining meds. Then you won't be tempted to take anymore. God bless and best of luck. Let us know how you do. Ideally you should do this under doctor supervision!!! Take care. hugs, Lee |
PS ~ I just counted again ~ That's over 70 ~ you might have to reduce at 10mg towards the last. In the beginning I'd still reduce at 5mg. Best of luck.

Thanks Leesa. I really screwed up this time. I lost my PM doc and I feel so ashamed of myself for what I've done.
I'll keep you informed on how things work out. Thanks again. |
I hope things work out ~ don't be so hard on yourself. You aren't the only one who's messed up. I'm in recovery too, so I know all about "screwing up." LOL. But thank God I've got a good home group ~ now I've got 17 yrs. clean/sober. Take care, and YES - keep me posted. I do care. Hugs, Lee

God Bless You Lee
So far I'm feeling a bit nausous. I guess the worst is about to come. I did it to myself...It'll be over some day. |
What Leesa said: Don't be too hard on yourself! We've all been there and got the tee-shirt.
May I humbly suggest you pay real good attention to nutrition while you detox. And please don't be afraid to seek medical advice during this time. As for pain, any complimentary health care in your neck of the woods? Acupuncture, massage, that sort of thing might not take your original pain away, but it can help it some while helping you get the monkey off your back. Prayers are with you. :smileypray: Jeff |
Thank you Jeff, that's not a bad idea.
So far I'm not feeling that bad. I'm just waiting for it to kick in and slam me. Nauseous the other night, but not last night, and a bit of a headache. I’ll take that! Thanks for being concerned. You both are wonderful. :grouphug: |
It IS ok to take some aspirin or tylenol for your headache. It won't interact with the oxy. Don't suffer with the headache. I remember a saying: Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional. lol.
And remember to stick FAST to that schedule, ok? God bless. And keep updating on your progress. I care. Hugs, Lee |
It you cant quit on your own, you may want to go into Boston, there is a Dr. Kishore, he can help those who have become addicted to their pain pills , he has a home detox kit which prevents all the " sick " symptoms. I believe he is in Brookline and also In Weymouth. He also is gives the vivatrol shot which is supposed to stop your brain from craving opiates. He also has connections with other Drs that can help with pain with out opiates.
If you cant get to Boston , you may want to search for a suboxon Dr to help you " kick"! |

To Leesa…thank you for helping me. I think I got this beat using your schedule. So far all I have is slight diarrhea in the morning and a headache at night. Next week I drop down ½ a pill, and so on. The only problem I have is that the pain from my car accident is starting to flare up. I hate to seek out a new pain management doctor, but I think I really do need one. I just hate to go back to pain killers, but if I need them to live comfortably, I guess I have to go back on them. It kinda feels good to have this crap out of my body, but the pain. Can I handle the pain?
I had to give up my favorite sport, mountain climbing. The only way I’ll be able to do that again is to get back on the pills…..what to do?! |
Well, as you know, I'm in recovery ~ and I'm also a chronic pain patient. There is NO WAY I can even WALK without pain medications. My whole spine has pretty much collapsed due to all kinds of problems and the pain is agonizing, even WITH meds. I've been on meds since 1995 - and I've been in recovery since 1993.
Can I still keep my original recovery date?? YES, because I only take the meds for the reason prescribed and i take ONLY THE AMOUNT prescribed. I've NEVER taken more than I'm supposed to. I've talked this over with my Home group and with my sponsor and they all agree that I can keep my original sobriety date because I need the meds to basically 'survive.' You can do this too if you are diligent about how you take your meds - and don't get high on them or abuse them. You have to want sobriety more than anything else ~ and I did!! :p I'd had enough of that horrible life, of withdrawals and being 'drunk.' I figured one day I'd go too far and that would be that ~ I'd be dead! Spinal pain is one of the worst things in the world if you ask me. i've had to deal with it for 25 years now, and I'm getting mighty tired. LOL  But I thank God we have meds to help. If you feel you do need pain meds to function, then see the pain doc. If you think you can make it thru with over-the-counter pain relievers ~ use them instead. God bless, and keep me posted. Hugs, Lee :D |
My problem is that I had a car accident back on 1/25/00 and almost died from it. I broke my R/shoulder, R/pelvic bone, R/knee/ R/ankle, tore my right bicep muscle and had major c-spine damage from c-2 down to (I think c-5). It’s amazing I even recovered so well. That was when I lived in NYC. I moved up to NH about 9 years ago and had 2 shoulder operations. They didn’t work. So my ortho told me to seek a PM doc. Things were going great. I retired and took up hiking and mountain climbing. I was able to do all of this because of the pain meds. So I decided that I better get a new PM doc. I love my mountains and forests up here. I did get one. But I won’t be seeing him until sometime in Nov. or Dec. So I guess in the mean time, I’ll have to wean myself off the pain meds…bite the bullet until he see’s me, and hopefully my life will get back to the way it used to be.
I know I blew it by drinking the poppy tea. I feel like such a fool. “I AM A FOOL”! But trust me…it will never happen again! God Bless You Leesa |
Oh yeah…..I developed seizure disorder from the c-spine injury. It’s under control though.
“Some accident, huh”? :Bang-Head: |
Jeepers!!! You ARE lucky to be alive!! God was WITH you in that vehicle ~ I hope you know that! And He's been walking with you ever since!
He obviously has something he wants you to do 'down here.' You've got to figure out what it is! Maybe he wants you to help other chronic pain patients ~ or other addicts. Whatever, you've got a purpose!!! You'll get your life back the way it was ~ I have no doubt. You know your pitfalls ~ and you know the hell that is waiting for you if you're not diligent. One thing you have to remember is you are NOT the first or only one who has "relapsed." Almost everyone has done it once or twice - sometimes more often ~ the important thing is you got back to where you SHOULD be, and hopefully this is where you'll stay! Since God spent an awful lot of time on you ~ don't disappoint Him. LOL Hugs, Lee :D |

OK....got the new PM doc. I see him 11/22.
Lord am I suffering. Only 39 days to go. |
Looking to be doing this soon! I love mountain climbing! |
GREAT PICTURE!!:D:D:D:wink::wink::wink:! I wouldn't mind being up there on top, but I wouldn't want to CLIMB to get there!!! YOIKS! No, just plant me there, thank you. LOL
You've got more guts than I do. I don't much like getting on a step ladder let alone climbing a stupid mountain! LOL Hugs, Lee  |
By the way, are you still suffering? How's it going right now? Are you getting any sleep? You might try a benadryl ~ that might help you a little with the withdrawals. It does help some people.
Keep on keepin on ~ you'll get there. God bless. Hugs, Lee |

Luv ya for the help! Joey  |
I'm just glad you had enough left that it worked! :winky: So it's thanks to YOU that you made it thru! YOU did the work, kiddo. It's hard not to take more than you should when you're on a taper ~ but you didn't so YOU get the pat on the back!!! :D
I can't believe they don't have an appointment SOONER for the pain doc! Boy that's a long time to wait! Did they put you on a cancellation list in case someone cancels?? Then you could go in sooner. I hope so! You must be in agony! :( Hugs, Lee |

Thank you again for your help. I'm in pain from my accident, but not withdrawals. I forgot how much pain I had.....WOW! I wish I didn't have to go back on that garbage, but I do need it. |
I know what you mean. I'm so SICK of taking medication I could scream. But if i don't take them., I can't walk or even MOVE for that matter. And unfortunately, I'm not exaggerating. :( I guess I should be grateful we have meds like this to ease the pain.
Remember that ice packs help ease the pain ~ don't use heat ~ that makes it worse . God bless. Hugs, Lee |
I’m done with the withdrawals and I have 30 days until I see my new pain mgmt. Doc. I’m in so much pain that all I do is sit in the house. I know I messed up and it’s all my fault, but I pray to God for the pain to subside….it doesn’t. I used to climb mountains 4 times a week and know I can’t even walk down the block.
Leesa or anyone…..is there an OTC med that works the best on pain? I tried a few but they make me feel like I’m gonna gag and they don’t work on the pain. 30 days is a long time. I’m sorry to come on this site just for my needs, but I didn’t know where else to go. My pain level is at a 10+. I can’t think, I can’t sleep, I fight with my wife, I hate the freaking world. That’s not me, it’s the pain. Can anyone help me? :( |
Oh God, I'm so sorry. Bless your heart ~ ANY anti-inflammatory would be good, such as aspirin, Motrin, Advil, etc. Just make SURE you have something on your stomach! And don't take TOO many or you will get sick.
Also, USE ICE on your sore places - my Neurosurgeon told me this. He said use ice for 20 minutes every 2 hours. DO NOT USE HEAT as that makes it worse cause it draws blood to the heated area and causes more swelling to an already swollen area. Use ice to reduce the swelling, and reduce pain - it helps with inflammation too. You might ask your pharmacist for a topical pain cream ~ some are better than others - they actually work for some people. I hope you find something to ease your pain. My prayers are with you. Keep me posted, ok? Love, Lee |
Thank you Lee....your the best!
