Microsoft Office Word 2003 as email editor??? help?
Okay, here is what is happening. I use Verizon netmail. I send and receive using this email service.
For whatever reason, if I am at a website and they have an option to send an email to that particular website, and I click on it, I get a popup that says "Microsoft Outlook" and there's a "compose email screen", or I get Microsoft Word and there's a "compose email screen". I want to click on an email address and have MY Verizon thing pop up. It's not doing that. So I gather that I have to do something to make Verizon my DEFAULT email thing? Any idea how to do that? What I have done so far is to go to Control Panel, the add and remove thing, but I can't find Outlook Express anywhere. I thought if I removed Outlook Express, that it would go away and I wouldn't see that pop up screen anymore. any help is of course MOST appreciated. Melody P.S. If you need me to show you what the pop up screen looks like let me know. I HAVE A FLIP. lol |
I think those pop ups only work if you have the Outlook, Outlook Express or Thunderbird set up for use on your computer.
I don't use Microsoft Word so I can't test that option, maybe someone will come along with info on using it for email. If you use webmail {Verizon website or any website for email }, I don't think there is a way to get those pop up emails to work. I think you would really like the Thunderbird email program - it is so much faster & more convenient that getting the email on the Verizon website. The newest version it has an automatic set up helper - just type in your email address & it searches for the proper settings then asks you for the password. And you can still go in and adjust specific settings if you want to - in the past setting up the incoming & outgoing info was where most had problems. |
I don't want the pop up emails to work. I want them to NOT HAPPEN.
I have used thunderbird. I just like my Verizon. So how do I get rid of Outlook Express off of my computer when I can't even find it when I go to Add/remove programs.? Thanks much Melody |
In the Add/Remove did you click on the side bar ? Mine is set for classic style so you might have to look around for it if you have the default XP theme.
Look for -- Add/Remove Windows components that area is where you can remove Outlook Express. |
Well, now I am totally confused. I did what I told you I would do (in my pm). I clicked on the person's email address, the "Starting Microsoft Office Word 2003 as your email editor" came up on the screen and I immediately noticed there is nowhere to click on SEND. It's not an email program. It's a place to create an email and I gather, to copy and paste.
I am so confused I can't even tell you. Melody |

I'm going to change your title - so anyone that uses or knows about the Microsoft email editor might see it and help out.

I thought it was MS Word popping up and wanting to be the email editor?
[I clicked on the person's email address, the "Starting Microsoft Office Word 2003 as your email editor" came up on the screen ] found this if that is the case - About using Word as your e-mail editor Applies to: Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ou...850.aspx?CTT=1 Another confusing thing is Outlook Express is a separate program from Outlook. Gets confusing - it looks like Outlook is in with MS office now. I haven't used any of those in ages and don't even have them installed. I use the free OpenOffice program. similar to MS Word but not completely the same. |

I only care about how to handle it when this pops up Starting Microsoft Office Word 2003 as your email editor After this little message comes up, the Word document comes up. I don't want the word document to come up. I just want my Verizon to be my default email thing. I have no idea why Microsoft Office Word 2003 is my email editor. How do I get this TO NOT BE!!!! lol Melody |
How to Turn Word on or off as your e-mail editor or viewer
Applies to: Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 [ 1. From the main Microsoft Outlook window, on the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Mail Format tab. 2. Select or clear the Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages check box.] http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ou...in=HA001199861 You might also need to check the default program settings- [How to change your default programs and enable or remove access to Microsoft Windows and non-Microsoft programs] http://support.microsoft.com/kb/332003 These both should stop the MS word email write option pop ups - but it won't make the Verizon email writing option appear instead. The only way I can think of to send a form or site email using Verizon online web mail is to have the verizon email site open in one tab or window, and the form or other website open in another tab or window. Then copy/paste the email address of the person/place/business over into the write or compose section of your Verizon, and send it that way. |
Okay, we have liftoff!!!!!! lol
I went to Start, all programs, to Microsoft Office, then I found the Microsoft Outlook thing. I clicked on tools, options, and mail format. I unchecked the "Use microsoft word as the email editor" I then went back to the place where I was having the pop up word thing everytime I clicked on someone's email. Well, it no longer pops up with: "Starting Microsoft Office Word 2003 as your email editor" When I click on an email what pops up is a screen that has To: and underneath it has the cc: and then the place where you can write an email. It also does not offer any SEND option. so what I think is happening is that when I click on any email on the internet this thing will the pop up. I will then write my message, and then copy it into my clipboard, and THEN I have to to to my Verizon Webmail, (and by then, I will have had to write down the email address because I can't copy it because I just copied the message). Too confusing. All I wanted was that when I click on ANY email at any website, it would bring up Verizon. I guess for some reason I can't do that. So from now on, when I want to contact someone (on a website), instead of clicking on their email address, I'll just highlight it, copy it to my clipboard, go to my Verizon and then send an email using Verizon. I really don't know what else to do. I was under the impression that because Verizon is my default email thing, that any time I am at ANY website, and they have the option contact us: at . so and so @msn.com that I could just click on that and write an email. I gather this is not going to be the case. Here's my question. What happens when any of you are at a website and you click on their email address. What does it do? Thanks much Melody |
