taking my SCS's on vacation
Hoping to go on vacation this week, so curious to see how things go with having these two SCS's in. Will have to bypass security and get a manual inspection...hopefully that won't involve rubber gloves
My family dr. gave me some meds. just in case the implants don't cover the pain while traveling. Since I'm only two months post surgery, I'm trying to be extra careful so as to not mess up the scarring in. So I guess that means no bungee jumping:winky: So, will be off-line until first part of November. Going to the beach, South of Cancun (has been a long time coming), and hoping to get some peace and rest. Will be back soon. |
Have a great trip!

Bon Voyage

Cant wait to hear how you get on at the airport;)Im sure the rubber gloves will be FAR FAR away:D......you will be like a VIP going through security.;) Good luck and safe journey too Bon Voyage Jackie:hug: |
Oh the warm sandy beaches!!
If anyone on earth deserves this vacation it is YOU!
I can practically feel the sand between my toes as I think about it! Make sure you have the necessary documentation explaining your butt-buzz (and back-buzz) body parts :D....... as I'm sure the rest of the world can't really comprehend what this is all about, let alone the security.....and I think we are a bit 'heightened' on our national security alert..... (have we gone from yellow to orange......or is it orange to pink? maroon to violet? :Scratch-Head: well anyway..) Bring your charger and important necessities as a 'carry on' in the plane:Security: Wear your hat in the sun:Mexican: don't get in any strange-looking boats:Sinking: BABY STEPS!! :Slip: ENJOY!:sunchair: We'll anxiously be waiting to hear from you:laptop: .....:deadhorsebeat: <<--- no particular meaning......it's just my favorite smilie so I had to throw it in for good measure :D |
SCS and travel

Hi
I just took my first flight in over 3 yrs.!! I too have SCS. I called ahead to TSA at my departing airport and they were FABULOUS!!! I was treated with the upmost kindness and respect. I cannot be "wanded" either and not sure you can either. The ladies ask if I prefered to be "rubbed" or "patted" down and because of my extreme sensitivity, I chose patting. I also called the Airlines and requested front seats both ways for more leg room since it is my feet and leg that are affected. They accomadated me both flights. Everyone was extremely kind and caring. I also have a bagde that I wear wether driving or flying that says that I have RSD and what to do and not to do,as well as a medical alert bracelet. Hope all of this helps-Have a GREAT trip-Fondly-Carol |
Have you enjoyed your holidays
Hi Fiona:hug:
Just a quick hello to see if 1st your back and 2nd have you enjoyed your holiday to Cancun. You lucky thing;) Hope it all went terrific for you and that you are doing well. Jackie  |
oOH .. a tad amount of envy heading onto this page from me ... ohhh for the sea and sun!
Need to see pics Fiona! (And Pssst .. Hi, I'm Saffy!) |
Vacation was a lot of fun but a tid too early to go, I think. We ended up walking A LOT (about 3 miles daily) and was too much, what with being in the hot sun. Was relaxing laying on the beach and listening to waves rolling in:D
I think if I'd had to do it again (reservations were already made long time ago), I'd give myself more time to recuperate as I was only 8 weeks post surgery when I went. I was able to take pain meds. with me, which I reluctantly ended up using. Tried to moderate the lumbar SCS, which is where I had the most difficulty with pain, but was hard to find sweet spot between just right amount of pain coverage and too much, which made things a little sore. I asked for wheelchair down and back, which was a BIG help. Was whisked through security and customs faster than usual. Got the obligatory pat-down rather than going through the machines. If you go out of country, I'd suggest you get something from security in that country, in their own native language, that you can give to security personnel because the SCS cards didn't help me as much as having a letter in my hand, written in Spanish and signed by head of security. The screeners at Cancun looked at that letter and the rest was a breeze. The only problem was in the USA where we have to take our shoes off. It was a little problematic taking them off and off whilst sitting on wheelchair. So, while I have many fun memories (and didn't sleep very well while there because of being on pain meds.), it was nice to be with my husband and dad. Now to do tons of laundry and try to get my sleep schedule back to some sense of normalacy. |
Welcome back Fiona

Welcome back Fiona :) Sounds like you had a lovely time, even if you did walk daily. I bet it was lovely though lying in that beautiful sun and heat. I always use a wheelchair whenever I travel through airports. Its absolutely fantastic. And so quick. Its good to know that the cards we are using isnt really enough. I have my identity bracelet too. But as you say if its a 'foreign' country then thats not much good to them in English:rolleyes: Glad you got back ok too ....pity bout the laundry...do take it handy though Im sure there is no rush at all ;) Jackie :) |
It's SO great to have you back Fiona!
:hug::hug::hug:
You are SO strong! to be able to do all of this only 8 wks out from surgery! The time spent with your wonderful men will be memories to last your lifetime.... I can't imagine walking THREE miles a DAY! :yikes: You have to be a record-setter my dear friend! TWO IMPLANTS, 8 wks from surgery, traveling abroad.....walking the beaches.....unbelievable! Yet very very inspiring! Makes me realize what a weeny I really am  Thank you for the info regarding the security! These are the things that there would be NO way of knowing (other than actually experiencing them) ... you are our official 'Trailblazer' ! You've given us SO much valuable input and suggestions. We are indeed blessed to have you! :grouphug::grouphug: Good Lord! Take it easy on the laundry!!! As IF you haven't pushed yourself as it is!! Just wear a TOGA for the next week so you can RELAX and recoup from the jetlag.......OH! and BTW, we change our clocks this weekend :D |
Are you 'back to normal' ? ?
Just wonderin how you are feeling Fiona!
Did you get your laundry done and conquer any jetlag? I hope your pain isn't rearing it's ugly head....... Are the buzzers keeping up? |
Jackie: Finally have most of the laundry done...why, oh why, do I overpack?? My sleep schedule is getting back to normal and my pain is getting more manageable. Came back to no leaves on the trees and Fall setting in...wish I were back on the beach:D
By the way, have some friends in Ireland right now, waiting in line, to kiss the blarney stone. Not sure I want to kiss what many others have already kissed:eek: |
ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
:eek:Yes Fiona I totally agree, Ive never kissed the Blarney stone.....but then lots of people do :D hence the ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww :D
Im so glad to hear that you have the laundry done, its a pity I didnt know sooner I could have sent you some of mine too;) Yes Winter is coming with a vengeance here in Ireland, well it doesnt have to be Nov/Dec for that to happen it could happen any month of the year:eek: I can only imagine what it was like to be lying on the beach in November soaking up all that heat and sunshine. Wonderful! I hope that you are feeling relaxed now and that those 'twins' are behaving themselves;) |
:bump:
OK enuf of the recycled threads! |
Did you know?
Everyone, and I do mean everyone, who has kissed the Blarney Stone has died?
:winky: Mark56:cool: |
Is that true or a load of malarkey??? :winky:
|
I really feel stupid here...
I have no idea what a Blarney stone is :icon_eek: |
Tis a stone
In a place full of Blarney they say, www.blarneycastle.ie , and malarkey, and a bit of Killybeg, Killcare, and Killdare.
But just think of it a moment, the Blarney leaps out. Sure, everyone who has ever kissed the Blarney stone has died..... for it does not confer immortality. :winky: Now everyone groan loudly, Yup, Mark56:D |
Wow!
Thank you for that, Mark!
I expect Jackie's gonna come along and smack me up side the head for not knowing this! |
