Not the Birthday I Expected

Hi Guys,

I had a doctor's appointment today, which is my birthday. Who cares, right? Well, at least I'm still here to have one........birthday, not doctor's appointment.

My doctor looks at me, ask how am I doing and follows up with, "I see you've progressed since our last visit." I'm sorry, did I have a choice? If so, I would have gotten a cure before the visit.

He then ask me if I saw a need to continue and see the two specialists? I said I liked them both, they were up front and very good at what they do but no, why see them again. He says, "Good because both of their notes indicate there is nothing they can do for you and released you back to me." So we agree on further treatment.

What does it tell you when a doctor in a very busy, hospital affiliated, family practice walks you out to your car, helps you load your power scooter in the trunk, gives you a big hug and pat on the back, EACH TIME YOU LEAVE? I like to think I have one hell of a great PCP. That's what I think!

We have completed all the necessary medical documentation and sent it to the cruise line medical department. They then forward it to the ships medical staff. I report to them when I board. I told my doctor no big deal, if anything happens on the cruise I know they have big refrigeration and freezer compartments so I won't miss anything and they don't have to give me a refund. I'll just leave with the baggage. :p

Well, sleep challenges haunt me every night so I am going to crash for my normal 3 hours and cycle again. That's why some of you may notice my postings at 2:30 AM in the morning. I'll keep you informed.

Make a positive impact on someone today!

I love your sense of humor and outlook on life, Craig. :)

Really, what else can we do but find the humor in our everyday situations? I know I'd go loopy if I didn't laugh at some of the predicaments I find myself in.

Sounds like your cruise is coming up soon. I really hope you and your wife have a wonderful time. I hope you'll share some of the pictures with us when you get home. :)

Happy Birthday, Craig. You have always been such an inspiration to me. I, too, love your humor. I hope you have a wonderful cruise and give that PCP a hug from us. I wish all doctors were that way.

Hi Guys!

I thought I'd stop in and wrap things up for you guys regarding my birthday day.

Not sleeping much the night before, (so what's new, right?), and the doctor's appointment with those results, the rest of the day was challenging. I was able to last until 4:15 PM when my wife got home from work. We were suppose to go out to dinner. That didn't happen! I was totally exhausted and told her I was going to "lay down for a few minutes." Four hours later I stumbled out of the bedroom long enough to take my meds, kiss her and go back to bed.

I get these sudden waves of total exhaustion, weakness, and fatigue I can't even fight through. There is no routine to it at all, thus our family motto, "Just go with the flow." My biggest fear is how will I do on the extended cruise? My goal is to make it the trip of a lifetime for my wife and I've resolved myself to do and tolerate whatever I have to for that to be accomplished. Oh well, one day at a time.

My primary care doctor, the "AWESOME DOC," gave me his card with his home and personal cell phone number along with his home personal email address. He said to use it whenever I felt I needed to and/or have the ship's medical staff to feel free to contact him. This guy is unbelievable!!!!

Now I start to seriously prep for the trip, mentally and physically. I'll keep you guys informed and thank you for your support.

Craig,

You doc sounds like a wonderful person. Glad you have found someone you like.

As for the cruise and "keeping up"-

just veg out on a deck chair with some comfortable pillows & you r sunglasse. Lay a book on your belly, nod off and recoup as needed. Practically every third chair has some man or woman who has nodded off while reading a good book/magazine.

How would anyone think you any different than the rest of the passengers who are trying to recover from the 'buffet coma' & too much fun in the sun. Everyone on a cruise is there to have a vacation.

Take a bit of your own advise my friend:wink: Use your cruise to recharge your batteries and enjoy yourself. Leave the stress here (it will wait for you). If all else fails crawl into your cabin, order room service and take it easy for a bit - your wife will understand (and probably join you LOL)

I agree. sit and relax on deck. Watch the whales, or the dolphins. Read, or listen to music on your MP3 player. Nap, rest, stretch and relax.

You dont have to do every excursion, and should poke thru the list for the very best ones. Make a list of 3.
#1 are those you MUST attend. Glorious sites you dont want to miss.
#2 are fun and you will make every effort to get to them.
#3 are those that sound fun, but your feelings wont be hurt if you stay behind and nap.

You dont have to compete with the other passengers. You just have to take care of YOU the best way you know how. I am so proud of you for going!

BUMMER! I don't even own an MP3 but will be taking my new CD player, Tony Robbins personal development and three audio books on CD.

Already done and booked and we (I) will not be over doing it. Doesn't matter because I have four days cruising back to recoup.

I'm sorry, you must have misunderstood something in getting to know me. It's the other passengers who will have to compete to stay up with me.......I'm motorized and they're not. :Dancing-Chilli::yahoo:

Great post and thank you for covering the bases.
