Horror movies

I'm not morally opposed to them or anything, but for the life of me I don't get the concept of paying money to have the jibbers scared out of you.

I'm saying that as somebody who takes measures NOT to be freaked out and NOT to have nightmares. I just don't get it. Different strokes, I guess. :D

Kitt 10-29-2010 05:52 PM

I liked them when I was young but they weren't like they are now either.

Erin524 10-29-2010 06:19 PM

I've never really liked horror movies. I did like Fright Night, because Roddy McDowell was in it, and it had some humor to it. And I liked WitchBoard because a soap opera actor that I liked was in it (Stephen Nichols)

But normally, I dont care for horror. I tend to prefer action movies and martial arts movies (Absolutely adore Jackie Chan movies)

SallyC 10-29-2010 08:22 PM

I love them. I've been in 7th heaven this week, with all the scary movie marathons going on..:D:eek:

I have to admit I love the Originals the best. All of the multi million sequels are boooooooring. I like the suspense but not all the blood and guts stuff.

Real life gives me nightmares, not scary movies.:)

KajunButterfly 10-29-2010 09:19 PM

I'm with Sal, the scarier the better for me. Ofcourse I only read "true crime" books...hubby says I'm morbid.

Erin524 10-29-2010 09:59 PM

I like the original version of The Blob. The acting isnt much to look at, but it was fun to watch. The remake they made back in the 80s (or was it the 90s?) was pretty bad...the acting was even worse than the original.

It's weird that I dont like the original version of The Thing, but I love the remake (Kurt Russell was in it. Which is probably why I liked it)

Koala77 10-29-2010 11:41 PM

I don't watch horror movies, not ever :yikes: ..... but I do like a good thriller or suspense drama.

I daresay some could say I'm putting myself through a similar experience when I sit on the edge of my seat, all enthralled in my thrillers, but I love them! The more exciting the better.

I LOVE a good horror movie! "BUT!" I have no use for the slash and gore movies they've been making since the late 70's. I guess that comes from being an ex-police officer and I saw stuff like that for real. I loved working a good murder scene, but that is completely different than the stupid slash and gore, highly predictable movies of today.

Give me the movies like, Frankenstein, Warewolf, Bride of Frankenstein, Frankenstein Meets the Warewolf, The Mummy, Dracula, Mars Attacks, War of the Worlds, The Blob. Now, that's fun and scary but not gross out.

Erin524 10-30-2010 01:09 AM

Can Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein be considered a horror movie? It had a Frankenstein monster. Hold That Ghost had ghosts...and The Time of Their Lives also had ghosts...(that last one is my favorite) If they have ghosts and Frankenstein, can they be considered a horror movie?

I love all of the A&C movies. been awhile since I watched them

Friend2U 10-30-2010 03:22 AM

I like a good suspense movie now and again...but horror is a bit much for my enjoyment.

Kitty 10-30-2010 07:51 AM

Thrillers.....suspense......the older movies of the 60's and even before then. I like those. But not the gory blood and guts movies they make today.

My oldest son who is in law enforcement says "just spend a day with a police officer and you'll see enough blood and gore to last you a lifetime". I tend to feel like these new movies give those people who have a tendency towards violence too many ideas.

SallyC 10-30-2010 12:28 PM

For me the original Halloween movie was the best of the best of Horror movies. A little Blood but mostly scarrrrry suspense. Just seeing that masked face in the shadows, left me shivvering and numb. Another one was the Original Polterguise....eeeeeek!! And the originals of Frankenstien and Dracula....and JAWS!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek:

Kitty 10-30-2010 01:36 PM

The only original movie that really, truly scared me was The Exorcist. The sound effects were chilling. And that scene of the little girl crawling down the hall all inverted on her hands and legs....backwards.....oh, that creeped me out! I still get scared even when I hear the theme music.

There was something on television a couple of weeks ago that I started watching and should have stopped....but no, I just HAD to watch it....and then I was scared. DS was out so I had every light in the house on. When he got home he said the house looked like an airport...he could see it from the end of the road! :o

Blessings2You 10-30-2010 04:18 PM

I think the last "scary movie" I saw was "The Birds". I saw it with my friend Millie, and we went to her house afterward.

We were sitting on the couch all spooked and chattering, when her mother's parakeet came swooping into the room.

We both screamed, which scared each other, so we screamed again (louder), which scared her mother, who came running in to see what was wrong. By that time the parakeet was clinging to the curtain with his little heart beating a million miles a minute...holy moley.

Blessings2You 10-30-2010 05:51 PM

Four hours later I'm STILL crackin' up thinking about Kitty's house looking like an airport!!! :D

I'm just glad a plane didn't try to land here!

:ROTFLMAO::Thats-Funneh: That's a good one.:D

PolarExpress 10-30-2010 08:39 PM

I love a good horror flick ~ but not the slasher movies. Those are just gross (besides, watch any of the regular crime shows on TV & you'll get all the gore you want).
The scariest movie I ever saw in the theatre was the first Alien movie. You never saw the alien, or exactly what it did, but the suspense of the whole thing was done so well it scared everyone in the place.

Erin524 10-30-2010 11:23 PM

If you watched the episode of CSI (vegas version) from about a week ago (episode where they were finding bodies in a hoarders house) that was probably the episode where they finally went too far in the disgusting category.

They finally grossed me out to the point where I nearly had to vomit. Just for the grossness of the special effects they made up for that episode.

and then they had to throw in a few rats for some extra icky. I. Hate. Rats. (or anything resembling mice and rats) I have a huge phobia.

I think the only thing worse for me to watch, would be The Exorcist. (I cannot watch that at all. Cant even think about it. I need to go look at pictures of puppies and kittens to get images from that movie out of my head)

missj 10-31-2010 01:41 AM

My favorite horror movie/book has to be "The Shining" A psychological thriller that could happen. I am not into blood/gore/violence as entertainment. But a psych thriller gets my adrenaline pumping

SallyC 10-31-2010 09:32 PM

I'm still watching scary movies. I guess today is the end of it.:( I'm watching THE EYE on Lifetime, right now. OHooooooo:D
