Need help with pain med ideas - have a list
 

I have posted several times before relating my frustration with excruciating pain from fibromyalgia and RSD . The worst pain is in my lower back where I had an epidural. I am in constant pain in a variety of places due to Dr. interventions which caused more problems and more pain. However,it is my back which is so bad. Unfortunately, no pain meds have ever worked: al opiods, methadone, lyrica (abaoput 40). I have been searching the internet and this site and BT and cme up with some other meds. Anyone know if they may help me. phelobarbytol, kadian, xyre, zyban, relafin, reliquip, mirapex, sodium oxybate, amorbarbit, tizanidine, zineta, keppra, stadol, relaxin, fentora, pallodoone, bupenorphine dextramorphine, namenda, milnacipran, priat/elanCo., ralfinimide, oxytocin, neuroprotin, pramipexose, milnicipran, ketoralac, natlrexopone, aviaz , doxycycline, amitral, zofran, endone, xifaxin, narian, *opana, ralifinaminide, . I know some are for parkinsons and other off label usage. I get sick on acetaminophen so those drugs are out for me unless I take them with anti nausea drug. I am taking this list to my Dr . next week. Since he is out of ideas -I researched and found people using these for pain. Does anyone have any thoughts on these or use them for pain. I am so desperate . I just about get out of bed and am unable to walk outside the house. My back is SO bad.

Hi Sydney! It's just about impossible to predict which medicines will benefit which people, since it always seems to be differnent. But for me, the only pain med I ever found that really seems affective is Dilaudid. I actually take it as a break-through med, and have used many long-acting narcotics as my primaries. But the primary meds have never been as effective as Dilaudid.

It is a very short-acting narcotic, so many doctors are leery about prescribing it. It seems the risk of addicting is higher. I have to take 8 mg every 4-6 hours, as it has a half-life of five hours or so.

I hope you find the med that works for you, because doing so can make all the difference in the world. Good luck!

Hi, I have tried a plethora since 2002, (when I started down this road.) The Opana helps some, but you get soooo thirsty with it. I woke up at night dreaming I was in a desert. The Fentora and the Fentanyl are the ones that help me with virtually no side effects, however no insurance will cover it and they both run $30 a lozenge or disolvable tablet, and the tabs (Fentora) will take 2 usually. You take a dose every 4-6 hours on both of them. I have been fighting my insurance for a year. They covered them for 6 months. The BEST 6 months of my life. For a minute there I felt almost normal. The Zofran is for nausea usually brought on by cancer treatment. No use for you in this case. The Stadol is a narcotic they typically give for labor. O.K. for pain relief, shorter life than the Fentanyl. Kadian is basically the same thing as Morphine. I take Morphine now, a LOT of it. I feel you though. Sometimes if I could walk I would walk in front of a bus. You just have to take each minute and use it. Exercise your core muscles. I know that sounds dumb, but it helps alot. Getting your core stronger will help the muscles in your back and hip hold your weight up. Also, if you have a little extra weight, try loosing it. The 3 prongs meds, exercise and weight lose have helped some. But if you are like me even a little is a miracle. Good luck.

Hello everyone. Thank you everyone for this forum. I'm new here and new to a pain clinic that my regular dr just referred me too. I have Spinal Stenosis and bulging discs. This new dr just today started me on 25 mcg. Fentynal Patches. I've had my first one on for a couple hours now and so far so good! I do not feel drugged up and depressed as I expected. A little dizzy though. I do feel a little more impatient with others maybe. A little less tolerance. Does it take a little while for my body to adjust from bring on about 7 or 8 5-325 mg. Percocets to a 25 mcg. Fentynal Patch? Please make me aware of important issues I should be aware of about this type of treatment. Thank you so much! Mykinzie...

it will take about 8 hours for good effect, if you are already dizzy, please be careful!

Be careful and watch for side effects...

I am severely allergic to Fentanyl but didn't know what was going on for a few days... was going in severe anaphylactic when my Chiropractor noticed the allergic reaction!!!

I hope it works for you... it does for many... but as you know.. with RSD.. no two of us are the same...and don't react the same to medicines.

Hi Sydney, I've just recently been switched from Opana ER and dilaudid to morphine sulfate ER, and it's been a blessing. Not only is MS ER much cheaper (even with discount, on opana, I was paying over $100.00), but has helped my pain more.

Hi Sydney ~ Have you tried Methadone? That's what I'm on and it does a "fairly" good job. I'm UNDER-medicated, but most of us are. I think if he upped my dosage, I'd feel alot better, but so would everyone else if they got the proper dosage. LOL.

Really tho, Methadone works better (I think) than the MS Contin I was on. Maybe it just that it's been so long since I was on it, it's my imagination. LOL.

My husband has tried everything under the sun for his pain from syringomyelia. For pain specifically, not including his other symptoms, methadone has worked the best. He is able to things that he would not be able to do during the day, and does not seem drugged up like when he is on oxycodone or other opiates. As for nights, that is a different story. Methadone does not help him sleep. His doc prescribes xanax, which he abuses and I am trying to get him to stop having it prescribed to him. I can't stand him on xanax and am searching for some alternative. But methadone works well, although addictive, but we have both accepted that he will probably have to be on pain meds for life. Keep in mind that withdrawals from methadone can be deadly, and methadone and xanax are a very dangerous combination.

My goodness that's quite a sleep regimen. Xanax is not a hypnotic, and it's wicked addictive, so he shouldn't be on it. Ativan is a safer benzo choice. He should look into getting something good for sleep.

If you go see an anesthesiologist at a pain center they can implant a very small pump in your back. It will drip very slowly a strong mix of usually fentanyl mixed with other potentiating drugs. The meds will drip right on the nerve root/s that are sending the pain signals to your brain. I don't believe they take you off of your regular painmeds, at least not right away.I believe there is also along acting numbing drug in the mix call bupivicaine or something. I have talked to people at the pain center while waiting and the few I spoke with said it saved their lives. It didn't completely erase the pain, no pain meds really do, but it made them able to do things they hadn't been able to do in years. LIke walk down the driveway, get the mail, and walk back. If your pain is as bad as it sounds that can be a mirical...not to the average Joe but to those of us pretty much bed ridden by pain. It's worth a try or at least to ask. The woman whom it allowed to get the mail just beemed with joy and smiled from ear to ear when she told me! Something that can come all too seldom for many of us. Good luck with everything, peace,

New Here looking to share my experience with yours.
 

Hi, I started having problems about 12 years ago and the last 5 have been awful. The worst is not knowing what the hell is wrong with me or what causes it. I've had problems with depression, anxiety, chronic pain, stiffness and severe fatigue. After all these years I'm fairly sure it's Fibromyalgia. I've suspected Lupos, Arthritus, or just being crazy amongst other things in the past. I was in the Army and eventually was kicked out in 2004 after 13 years because of my medical problems. I do receive benefits.

Anyway, I have been taking Gabapentin for about 2 years. I just got a persciption for Lyrica today. I'm supposed to stop my 1200mg 3xday and start my Lyrica (don't have my dosage available now) tomorrow. I hope it helps. I never noticed much improvement with the Gabapentin, only some mild but bad side effects.

I also take Tramadol 50mg 3xday, Celebrex 200mg 1xday, Hydrocodone 10mg 3xday, and Cymbalta 60mg 2xday.

I would like to talk to other people who have had similar problems and to people with advise. I understand that Fibromyalgia is more common amoung women than men. That's good for me because I like to talk to women more than men anyway.

I have also been reading about Low Dose Naltrexon and it's benefits for my symptoms. Has anyone tried it or know anything about it?

Hey Sydney, I know what you're going through, it gets very frustrating. I had tried several of those drugs and they did not work. I currently am on Avinza (morphine) which was helping and then for break through pain I was taking oxy-ir. The problem is they no longer manufacture oxy-ir, but there is oxycodone. Oxycodone did not do anything for me, but maybe that combo would help you. Also, several years ago doctors put me on the duragesic patch, unfortunately I was allergic to it, but I do know of success stories. Good luck and I hope you find relief soon!!
