In need of help http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/images/smilies/frown.gif
i have posted here earlier but i believe i put my info in the wrong area,
my info is as follows : 40 yr / male great shape (personel trainer part time ) i work in a large commercial freezer and was hurt on the job closing a large heavy freezer door with my left arm , the door is very old and got stuck in the tracks and yanked on my arm causing a a very sharp pain on my scapula and spinal area shortly after that my arm started to turn blue a went numb , i have been off of work for 3 months now on wcb as my doctors will not allow me to go back until they figure out why every time my arm is lowered to my side (below heart level ) it will go numb , turn blue and purple with bright pink spots and start to swell this has been very consitent , i will also be in a lot of pain if it becomes cold out side or walking in a cold area , what baffles my doctor is it will do this all the time and if i raise my arm above my head it will go from dark purple to very white but when i bring it back down it will go purple again right in front of him is this some form of thorasic or venous thorasic ??? really driving me nuts |
What kind of Drs have you been seeing so far? {Drs of your own choosing or someone else chose them?}
What kinds of tests so far? list of testing info - http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/post580952-11.html [5. Doppler tests are like sonograms of the arm to see if there are any blockages of blood flow. You can have neurogenic TOS and still have vascular / circulation type symptoms, but these may not show up on this test.] Any comprehensive evaluation by an advanced PTs or expert chiropractors? they spend more time on the study of the body/tissues/skeleton/alignment ect...than most MDs. Sounds like something got yanked out of normal position and is now compressing the veins & or arteries for the arm. did they do a MRI with arms up or out to show a possible blockage better? Have you consulted {interviewed} some good work comp attys yet? sometimes they may have a list of doctors..that can help prove a claim. Sounds like a vascular Doc is needed for opinion/consult at the least. |
test that have been run so far is i had a mri to rule out rotar cuff , xrays of the chest and neck to rule out a extra bone all were clear except on the xrays of the neck c4-c7 all showed lipping and slight narrowing but that was just on a normal xray my dr is pretty positive it is some form of venus tos but he is not a expert in that field also i should mention that i have a great deal of discomfort around my scapula i have been told there is a vesel that the venus vein from the arms drain there but so far i never had a mri of the back only at the deltoid area looking for rotar cuff which i tried to tell that specialist that was not it as i have movement and no severe pain in this area . i should also mention my veins on my left side are always popped out now and the hand feels like as if u had burnt your finger tips that numbing feeling afterwards
|
I would keep on them about finding the problem, a vascular specialist or vascular surgeon might be the next step.
here's our drs & PTs sticky thread - http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread135.html the other sticky threads up above the main TOS thread list are full of saved info also - great way to get a crash course on TOS info. |
i did recieve a call today to see a vascular surgen today but my appt is almost 2 months away with my present symptoms should i be concerned due to the type my md feel it is venous tos
|
I suppose you will be OK , other than the pain and discomfort :(, just be watchful of any new pain or changes that might be a clot forming.
Many have gone years in the diagnosis merry go around & especially when work comp is concerned. If a possible clot arises go to ER. What Are the Signs and Symptoms of Excessive Blood Clotting? http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/dci/...ebc_signs.html http://www.medicinenet.com/blood_clots/article.htm more results - http://www.google.com/search?q=clot&...9933d19f024e3b |
thanks for all your help today at physio while i was do my neck stretches my scapula froze causing severe pain as well as cause my arm to turn very cold and a dark shade of purple i just hope the doctors figure what going on soon going very stir crazy( md is sure its t.o.s venues type but in canada they send you to a specialist to confirm ) been advised that my life style as a far as work( i work in temps of -40 f ) and all the physical activities i do ie :personel training , bjj , and sung hang do (korean martial arts) may change and prob will not be going back to it
|
wow, yep those activities are pretty physically stressful , try to find other hobbies and modify what you can for now.
be gentle with your self - slow easy stretches - don't force positions or movements - it can make your body tighten & fight the release |
i have also noticed that the arm that has been effect my fingers /hand are starting to curl in like a fist is this a normal thing with tos
|
Like clawing up?
That could be a nerve problem. some do get that. |
yes like clawing
|
the other day for the first time my scapula locked right up good thing it happened while i was at physio(they were able to unstick it ) , what troubles me is that each and every time i lower my arm to my side it will go purple or blue sometimes grey if i leave it there for any time i know this is a venous issue but could it be something else also it feels as if it going asleep but not , i really want to get back to all the things i love to do my goals now seam so far out of reach i know i have the abilities but concerned if i try anything i might cause further damage and what if i go to the doctor and he can cannot find out what going on i hate just being pushed on from one doctor to another very down in the dumps
|
Hang in there and keep reading as much as you can about anatomy - nerves, blood, muscles- and symptoms relating, and you might find what might be at the root of what happened to you.
I know it is tough to not get down in the dumps - but it seems to me that something must have got torn or overstretched and it just might heal in time if nothing messes it up and no complications set in. The nerves tell the body how to respond so maybe it is the nerves partially affecting the blood/color do the arm also... I don't know how deeply the drs have looked into all of that for you.... |
was at the walk in today with my son and the doctor there said i have sub clavacul vein sydrome , paget shroeder is this a form of tos can any one tell me if this is fix able or ???
|
Yes it's a form of TOS, some call it by other names.
paget schroetter syndrome http://www.google.com/search?q=paget...9933d19f024e3b [How is this condition diagnosed? It usually will come to attention by causing dramatic swelling, blue discoloration, congestion and pain in the affected arm. The diagnosis is then made by testing the vein to see if it is clotted or narrowed. Ultrasound machines can determine if the vein is clotted in the upper arm. Occasionally they may miss a clot in the area beneath the collarbone or inside the chest cavity. Venograms are tests where dye is injected into the veins and then X-rays are developed to show the flow of blood within the vein. The venograms are more accurate than ultrasound in showing the condition of the veins inside the chest and under the collarbone. These tests are considered the "gold standard" in testing because they are the most accurate. ] http://www.surgery.ucla.edu/vascular...hroetter.shtml Something to look into- this guy has some interesting videos about body work treatments- http://www.youtube.com/user/daltonmy.../6/gHoBVqbClP8 |
it says clotting but my doctor when he intially saw that my arm was blue and swollen he ran some type of blood test which came back negative so is it possible i just have the symptoms because of compression? i hate the medical system here in canada its been since august 30 of this year that this accident at work happened and my arm has been blue since and my scapulla has been very sore . to all the others here on this site i feel for you guys

my face keeps going numb is this because of my toss

Your whole face or one side mostly?
Do have TMJ? jaw misalignments? |
Desperately seeking neurologist
With all the wild symptoms I have (sleep apnea, severe depession, braial radial pruritis, restless legs, fibro, etc.) I have decided to just throw in the towel and find a neurologist who can "put it all together". I understand that neurologists have specialities within their own area. Has anyone had any success in finding a good neuro - or can you suggest which area/specialty I should be seeking? Am desperate - ready to rip the itching skin off my arms. Seems the only way I can get to sleep is to heavily medicate with a variety of stuff.
Any help from my fellow sufferers? |
