QE 2 and Queen Mary 2 - Sydney Harbour

For the first time in my life I wished I lived in Sydney yesterday to see this amazing spectacle...

11 pics from "The Courier Mail".

Thank you Lara!! We have a friend on that QE 2 ! I'm going to print those so he can see what he looks like...LOL..hard to see when you're on board.

Lara 02-20-2007 04:37 PM

Oh wow, he would have had a ball last night in Sydney then. This might sound weird, but it was riveting television, so I really wish I could have seen it in real life. I couldn't stop watching them trying to manouver around. The Queen Mary 2 entered at sunrise yesterday morning, and the QE2 arrived later in the day, then the Queen Mary 2 left for Hong Kong at about 11pm after all the fireworks... it was like New Year there last night. My father actually went to war on the original Queen Mary and other troops went on the original Queen Elizabeth. Just amazing liners. As the pics come in from last night I'm sure there will be plenty more. p.s. Queen Mary 2 is approx. 23 stories tall and dwarfed the QE2.

He loves the QE2....and Sydney also. I have forgotten his itinerary...he is either on his way, or has already been to Figi. He is going to complete the round the world trip...does it in sections because he still works....so he flies to where ever it is at the time and cruises for 30 days. Nice work if you can get it! :D

I loved the 1941 picture....looks very different!

$250,000Aud for the top suites in the Queen Mary 2 LOL

Alffe 02-20-2007 04:56 PM

WOW! :D Bet he isn't on top...he always comes home with pictures to show us and I just raise H*** with him because "even when you're casual, you don't wear plaid with prints" LOL...he calls me the clothes police.

What fun to think about....Hmmmmmmmmm, the sun is shinning here today and it did get up to 41 degrees. compared to what it has been, I'll not complain!

I'm so annoyed with myself. I was off doing my daily things here and remembered I'd put II instead of 2 all the time when talking about these ships. Probably wouldn't bother anyone else, but it bothered me LOL. Will try to correct the Thread Title to fix it now.

Alffe 02-20-2007 07:54 PM

Let me know if you figure out how to do that!! I've tried and failed many a time and it drives me crazy to mispell a word in the title of all places...it's just so OUT there!...does this mean we are **** or do we just have too much time on our hands?! :D

Idealist 02-20-2007 10:59 PM

Thanks, Lara! Those are some wonderful pictures! :)

Lara 02-21-2007 01:33 AM

Glad you enjoyed them too, Idealist.

alffe, the QE2 is heading up to my state in the next couple of days. I think (Hope!) it will fit up the Brisbane River. The Queen Mary certainly wouldn't LOL.

more pics.

I wonder if the QE2 is stopping anywhere along the way up the Brisbane River...I wonder if you're close enough to have a look..and if a short, round faced older gentleman in mismatched clothes gets off..give him a yahoo from us. He really is a charmer. :D

I love the pictures......more!! *grin

Lara

These pics were fabulous! Brings back memories of my two trips to Australia. It is an amazing country!

Lara, I know you must be the Lara that I talk to, this is Lor. I just saw these pictures and WOW...did I tell you? In June my dh & I are going on a cruise. The ship is smaller than the QM but bigger than QE2 (QE2 is 963 ft long, QM is 1132 ft long & Freedom of the Seas is 1112 ft long). I can't wait. http://cruises.about.com/od/royalcar...he_seas001.htm

WOW! That is wonderful news. I knew of course you were going somewhere because of the passport question, but had no idea where it was. You'll have the best time I'm sure. Thankyou so much for sharing those photos. She's a magnificent ship! You must be so excited.

Alffe, I didn't ever see this post before now. I'm so sorry for not replying. No, wasn't able to get to see the ship. I think that was the weekend of my daughter's birthday and it would have been quite a trip to get up to see it. I did think of your friend when they headed north because if I remember correctly they headed into some really bad weather somewhere between Cairns and Papua New Guinea. I was really surprised how fast those things move. One day it was in Sydney, next it seemed to be way up here.

Alffe 03-18-2007 04:36 AM

Hi Lara, our friend is home safe and sound. We need to have him over for a "debriefing". *grin
