Elizabeth Edwards on her death bed

I dont wish to discuss anything political about this woman, her life, or her circumstances, but thought it was worth mentioning that she is now on her death bed, and her family has been called.

She was dx with breast cancer many years ago, and for a while it appeared she beat it. A couple of years ago, it came back at stage 4 and it was determined that it was no beneficial to use interventions on her. (I still say she could have done other things)

Her husband ran for president in 2000 and didnt make the cut. She lost her first born when he was 16 to a car accident. The woman has shown bravery and courage in the face of a nasty disease.

God Speed Elizabeth.

I saw the story on the news. So sad. She has shown amazing grace and courage in the face of many adverse circumstances. I pray she has a peaceful exit from this world.

This was posted on her Facebook page.

You all know that I have been sustained throughout my life by three saving graces -- my family, my friends, and a faith in the power of resilience and hope. These graces have carried me through difficult times and they have brought more joy to the good times than I ever could have imagined. The days of our lives, for all of us, are numbered. We know that. And yes, there are certainly times when we aren't able to muster as much strength and patience as we would like. It's called being human. But I have found that in the simple act of living with hope, and in the daily effort to have a positive impact in the world, the days I do have are made all the more meaningful and precious. And for that I am grateful. It isn't possible to put into words the love and gratitude I feel towards everyone who has and continues to support and inspire me every day. To you I simply say: you know.

She passed away this afternoon. She put up a good fight for a long time. RIP Elizabeth.

Oh, I hadn't heard that. :( I'm glad she didn't suffer and had her children and family with her. I pray that she is at peace now and can rest.

She was a brave, strong, beautiful person. When I saw the news last night that she was nearing the end it brought tears for me and I had renewed anger at John Edwards ... I cannot type what I think of him:(

She died this morning but they didn't release a statement until the two children came home from school. She was a fighter but in the end there was nothing more to do.

What amazing words she wrote for her children to be read at her eulogy.

"I loved you in the best ways I have known how. I lament my shortcomings more than you know. For when I was less than I could have been, should have been, you did not get all that you deserve from me. For all I have said about life, I want you to know that all I ever really needed was you -- your love, your presence -- to make my life complete. You are complete joy to me. I hope you will always know that. Wherever I am, wherever you are, I have my arms wrapped around you."

Just finished watching her funeral on C-Span. It was nice.

Dejibo 12-12-2010 09:21 AM

I am glad the protestors were kept at bay. They stayed only a few minutes when they realized that hundreds showed up just to block them. They didnt care about their message, they cared about blocking the edwards view of the nonsense they were spouting. They stayed a very short time and left as they had no effect on anyone in the crowd and were not going to be allowed access to anyone they were aiming at.

I think she was a classy lady, and the candor and behavior of her children show how hard she worked to put a foundation under her kids. I was happy her ex chose to not speak. I was happy her daughter did speak and shared that letter to her kids.

If John Edwards ever did anything that showed good judgment it was this. He needed to keep quiet.....especially at this moment. It wasn't about him. It was about Elizabeth, her children and her family. She was a class act.

Exactly! no matter what his sins, opinions, political leanings or glories, it would have been in bad taste to say a single word at this womans funeral. He did the exact right thing. Attend quietly. Support your kids and shut up. I was proud of him.

Kitt 12-12-2010 02:06 PM

Perhaps, just perhaps, Elizabeth made it clear to the family and John included that John should not speak at her funeral. And perhaps John had no intention of speaking at the funeral either.

Kitty 01-06-2011 02:57 PM

I just read that Elizabeth left John completely out of her Will. Her oldest son, who is a lawyer, is the Executor and all her assets were left to her children. I knew she was a smart woman.

wkikta 01-07-2011 11:39 AM

Not her son, eldest daughter, Catharine Elizabeth Edwards, as the executor. She is also named as guardian for any minor siblings. I don't think Jack is a lawyer since he is only 11.

SallyC 01-07-2011 11:59 AM

That's right, I heard her lovely eulogy.:)

:o Oops.....thanks for the correction. :)

Way to stick it to the old man...gotta love Elizabeth!! Bless you, dear!!

But so sorry for the kids...

Dejibo 01-08-2011 08:21 AM

it was announced yesterday that he and "the other woman" are officially engaged. He wanted to wait till after her passing to announce this.

My prayer is that he will now pass into mediocrity and simply live the life of an average man and out of the public eye. He had a chance at the big prize and blew it on selfish childish things.

She was such a class act, and while I did disagree with some of the things she did and said I always admired her family skills. Those kids were precious and everything to her. She was a good momma.

Kitty 01-08-2011 08:25 AM

IMO....and this is just my opinion, John will ultimately get what he deserves. His life won't be easy and he will have to live with the knowledge that his own children (with Elizabeth) know what a selfish and cowardly man he really is. Money and things might outwardly ease the pain of losing an entire family but deep down and in the quiet of the night he knows that he really, truly lost it all.

SallyC 01-08-2011 12:43 PM

Another "holier than thou" guy brought down by a cunning woman..:icon_twisted: ..If God forgives him, so can I. He made his bed, I hope he can make something out of it..with a lot of suffering along the way.

Mom did a smart thing by leaving all she had to children. They will have to share their Father's estate, if they get anything at all.
