Bleeding from Uretha

Bad night last night, Merry Christmas, found blood in toilet, wiped and on paper see blood. Feel lousy. Will see Urologist ASAP but today is Christmas, know unless I go to Emergency (doubtful) will not see anyone. Think it's a UTI gone horrible. Anyone have any experience? Kinda nauseous, not terriblely though. No vomiting.

Snoopy 12-25-2010 02:07 PM

Geez Kicker, what a crappy way to start off Christmas

It's up to you if you go to the ER or not but you are going to feel lousy for the weekend :( UTIs really should be treated ASAP.

I have dealt with UTIs since the age of 4

Being nauseous is normal for me with a UTI. Blood in urine can also be common but it might not be a bad idea to at least call your PCP or Urologist (?).

Other symptoms I have had:

Frequent urination
Urgency
Difficulty holding it/leaking
pain on urination
abdominal pain
Foul smelling urine
fatigue worsens/no energy
nauseous
Cognitive problems
Feeling cold/shivering -- I don't usually run fevers but some people do.

Kitty 12-25-2010 02:46 PM

Feel better Kicker. Don't let it get too bad......a trip to the ER might be better than nothing. At least get an ABX into your system before Monday. Still see your regular doc but don't let it get too far along.

Aarcyn 12-25-2010 03:38 PM

I say go to ER. Better now than if it gets worse and you REALLY should have been there.

old adages:

better safe than sorry
no time like the present
a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush
keep on keeping on
onward Christian soldiers (in honor of the season...)
sock it to me

I have run out of stupid things to say. But let me reiterate, I say go to the ER.

kicker 12-25-2010 06:02 PM

Sock IT to ME?

Blessings2You 12-25-2010 06:42 PM

Don't wait for the snowstorm!

Snoopy 12-25-2010 07:35 PM

Awww Kicker, it's okay.

It finally dawned on me this evening that I have a UTI...again, last one was in October.

I buy UTI test strips to check for a UTI, then I call my PCP. The test strip shows I have blood in the urine but the other part of the test strip comes up negative...just like in October.

These last two UTIs have not given me any of the "normal" symptoms for a UTI. The only thing that give me any indication is a pseudo-exacerbation.

I will contact my PCP on Monday, like you I am not going to the ER.

doydie 12-25-2010 08:48 PM

Only time I had that was with a bad UTI. Does your doctor know you well enough to give you an antibiotic without seeing you. Monday can be a long time when you have a UTI. He can be just a phone call away even on a holiday

SallyC 12-25-2010 09:21 PM

(((((Kicker)))))...Sheesh, honey, I sorry.:(

I'd probably call the Doc and see what he/she thinks. My Doc would call in an ABX and then go back to his party. :) So you may not need to go to the ER. Can you imagine xmas in the ER.

How are you doing tonight? Any better?
I just now saw this. Be better soon..

kicker 12-25-2010 10:04 PM

|Actually I do feel better. Blood and any discomfort is gone, my urologist loaded me up with AB Which is also one he prescribed for my UTI last year which had traces of blood culture said. My PCP also prescribes this Anti-biotic to take as a precaution when sexually active. So, I am taking it (I know i should not misuse AB and I swear I'm not, this is often two doctors first choice to try. I have no fever, no blood, no discomfort. On Monday I intend to call my own PCP. She lets me send urine samples in containers she provides, brought to her by DH, as they are in same office mall. But I have had much better Christmases.

an old variety show called "Laugh In." Surely you remember? It is where Goldie Hawn got her start in the entertainment business.

It was one of the tag lines...

Here comes the judge.

Even President Nixen was on the show and said "sock it to me" :D

Blessings2You 12-26-2010 06:27 AM

And they did.

Hope you're a lot better this morning, Kicker

This OLD person was quoting Nixon. He said it with a questions in his voice, SOCK IT (?) to ME (??) Back when I was young (You know, when Dinosaurs ran free), I never missed Laugh In or Sonny and Cher. Back when at my house when we could get all 7 channels. |We never watched UPN or UVF or whatever it was called. And remember Soupy Sales?

You got SEVEN channels? Wow!!:D

I wish we would go back to that. At least there was something good on all the time. Now we have 100s and still only a few stations have anything on.

SandyC 12-26-2010 01:30 PM

Glad your feeling better. I would have rushed you to the er but that's because I have ptsd from Jim's prior catastrophe from a UTI.

Dejibo 12-27-2010 08:49 AM

Do you remember ABC, NBC and CBS being it?! then all of a sudden we could get the accessory channels like PBS in the late 70s! At midnight the programs ended after the star spangled banner and pictures of the flag. no late night viewing if you couldnt sleep. no shopping channels. and if the president was on you might as well hang it up, he was on every channel!

I hope you are feeling better.

But I think we appreciated TV more then. My kids grew up with cable, a million channels for each age they were, Nick, MTV, etc., but we had few choices and watched anything so intently. I watched every old movie that came on! My kids are true electronic kids now, computers, lap-tops, digital cameras and videos. You-Tube for anything. Me, left in the dust, depending on them, I'm low-tech (and kinda proud of it).

Mine too! Me too!:p:D

I so much preferred it when we had few TV channels and there was always something we wanted to watch, like Laugh In. I have many channels on Direct TV and some of them are
unabashed porn. Many are Infomercials. It is a pest to have to put on your glasses and read the fine print on the guide to find something you want. I still watch only 4 or 5 channels regularly. My TV was out all day yesterday to being snowbound.

I have had few UTI's. Two of them responded magnificently to Cranactin pills (cranberry). One pill did it in both cases, although that sounds ridiculous. When I had
the bleeding UTI, the only time I had that, I guess i must have been on antibiotics. I think, if I remember correctly, the antibiotic didn't agree with me and I returned to Cranactin and it did the job. It's been a long time since I've had that.
