So Kitty...
Your weather forecast looks worse than mine! My cousin who lives in Atlanta went shopping and said that the shelves were being picked clean by people getting ready for the storm. Noting that the grocery store was out of bananas, she said "Who says 'there's a storm coming, we need to eat healthy'?"
|
It's snowing here right now. From what I'm hearing on the news/weather we're in for a rough few days. There's probably at least 3" out there now. It's snowing so hard you can barely see in front of you.
It wouldn't be so bad except that the temps are dropping and all this is freezing on the ground. I went to the grocery on Saturday and stocked up on the essentials. I also got a few flashlights and plenty of batteries. Schools are already announcing closings. The news just announced that I-85, a major Interstate through Atlanta, is closed (southbound, I think) going through Atlanta. I'm not sure of the accuracy of that because I'm only half listening as I type this. Unless I lose power I'll give an update in the morning. :) |
OMG, we aren't in Hotlanta anymore, Dorothy!!
Stay in and stay safe.. |
Wow.....here in my county we got about 5-6" of snow. It's sleeting right now. The temps this week range anywhere from 13 for a low to 38 for a high. So I don't think this mess is going anywhere for a while.
Most roads are impassable but that's not keeping some folks from trying. They're gonna get stuck and have to wait a l-o-n-g time for help to arrive. I wish people would just stay in unless it's truly an emergency. The little feral kittens were all looking out the barn door this morning as if to say "what the heck happened to our yard?!". They're used to coming to the back porch to eat. I put lots of dry food and water in the barn last night. The water's probably frozen....I hope they're smart enough to eat some snow if they get thirsty! DS didn't have to go to work this morning - thank goodness - because he would have tried if they'd have been open. Can't tell that boy anything. Now.....if one of the guys at work had said "hey, you'd better not try and drive in this mess" he'd have listened and stayed put. Most of the interstates are impassable and some are even closed. Three months till Spring!!! ;) |
My SIL works in lower NC at a grocery store and she said folks are plain old nuts when a flake of snow falls, let alone major stuff. They had a storm that dropped 9 inches, and now just got smacked again.
She said the shelves are bare. There is no fresh fruit, no soy milk, no almond milk, no whole grains and no healthy anything. She commented that big storms must bring out the vegans in town. She thinks no one would intentionally buy soy milk, but yet the shelves are bare! like it had hidden gold in the box. She also wants to know why no one buys a snow shovel till it starts snowing. Doesnt everyone have at least one buried deep in the back of the shed? is it just easier to buy a new one, than search for the old one? She cant believe the amount of snow shovels she has rung up this week. |
I don't own a snow shovel. :o Maybe I'll buy one after all this mess is over and just keep it in the garage.
The grocery stores were down to the bare minimum on Saturday when I went. I try to buy things that can be eaten without cooking or heating up......like peanut butter, bread, packets of tuna, granola bars, etc. It's just me and DS here so I don't need to overstock. I did buy some purified water but doubt I'll need to use it. I have plenty of cat food, coffee and toilet paper so I'm good for at least a week! |
This is the first place I came this morning.:D I'm glad you're safe inside and DS too. Poor Kitties..
We're supposed to get 5 inches by tomorrow noon, so our stores will be busy too. Although, here, we're used to plowing through the snow, to get to the store or whereever..:D Post a picture!! |
Glad to hear you're doing OK! Things get a little nuts around here when we get a big storm, and we're used to it (as much as you can be, I guess ). I can't imagine how much harder it would be to live in an area that rarely gets snow having to suddenly deal with several inches.
Stay safe & warm! |
Brrrr....it is so cold today. All the snow is turning to ice. Whatever is turning into slush due to car traffic is quickly refreezing into a solid sheet of ice. Traffic - what little there is of it - is a mess. I'm sure the police and emergency response teams wish folks would just stay home.
DS just did me a HUGE favor. He went out to the barn and fed and watered the little kittens. All three bowls of water I had placed out there were frozen. He replaced those, gave them some wet catfood and replinished the dry food bowl. I just saw the little solid orange one scoot out the door to use the bathroom in some bushes. He scooted right back inside, too! :p Schools are closed tomorrow, too, and it wouldn't surprise me if they stay closed the majority of the week. The temps are not supposed to get much above freezing during the day and into the teens at night. Whatever melts will quickly refreeze. I used to love this kind of weather. Now....not so much. Ask me again in 6 months when it's 100 degrees in the shade and I'll probably have a different answer! |
I-85 through Atlanta, always pretty much a mess, even when things are normal. Driving it is what I call 'Combat Driving' most of the time.
Stay warm, it should melt by April. |

I-20 is closed in both directions. I-75 North is a mess with jackknifed tractor trailers all over the place. The local news on all stations has been on all day long. Enough! We know it snowed! How much can you talk about 5 inches of snow?? The snow here in Gwinnett County looks very much the same as the snow in Union County. I don't need to see it for 12 straight hours. I know the concern now is black ice but most folks have enough sense not to try to get out in it for no reason. And the ones who do try just to go to Waffle House will probably get stuck and have to wait several hours for help. Lesson learned. Now, since there really hasn't been much to report on but people making snowmen and sledding down hills they're talking about "possible" power outages and instilling fear in everyone. Not much we can do but be as prepared as possible. |
Since when do people have the sense to stay off the roads when the weather is bad?

They are actually calling for snow here tomorrow. We are not used to the snow and ice around here. Wind storms around here are another thing. We try to keep our pantry fully stocked and when we hear a storm is coming we fill all the gas tanks on our vehicles and all the extra tanks. We lose power in those kind of storms almost yearly so we have a generator hooked up to switch the house over to back up power. That and we have a wood stove for heat, so when it does go out we cook on that. Unfortunately though, usually when the power goes out here it's not really that cold, so we end up having to open all the windows so that we don't completely overheat. I hope your power doesn't go out and you are able to just stay in and ride this one out! |
The news was full of traffic accidents and people stranded on the highway. It's got to be aggravating to the public safety employees who have to go rescue these folks. They not only risk their own safety but that of the ones having to go save their silly be-hinds!

Part of the problem is that people either freak out over a weather forecast or (and most likely) don't listen to it at ALL!
Over the million years I worked at the Post Office, I can't guess how many times someone would come in after all of the tv and radio stations had been predicting an ice storm or horrific snowfall for two days straight, and say "Oh...is it supposed to be bad?" after I seemed surprise he/she was headed for Burlington to go shopping. OR, bad weather will be forecast and people say, "Oh poo, they never get it right anyway." |
There's got to be a happy medium for the news....but they'll never find it! It's ALL or nothing with them.
Today is the 2nd day that all the local news networks have taken off regular programming and had continuous talk about snow and ice all day long! How many people do we need to see slipping down a hill? Good grief! They act like this is the first time it's ever snowed in Georgia! I'm watching QVC!!! ;) |
I want my quiet house back! :o

Well, the weatherman got it right, here in Kettering/Dayton, Ohio. About 5 inches of beautiful new snow. Not icy, so not bad driving. Some schools closed but most were just on an hour delay.
This is the kinda snowfall everybody loves. Softly clinging to the tree branches and railings and such. The Groommobile came and groomed my pup today and said it's not bad driving. Life goes on, here in beautiful Ohio.:p |
snow
hello to all you snowed in dears, I feel for all of you with this really bad winter going on. I am in fl.(poor me) and it is going down to the 30's here again. We have been getting all the cold and rain on that southern edge on all those storms. Stay warm and try not to have to go out in it. I am from Missouri, and I do not miss the snow, except for it is beautiful. ginnie:hug:

Crazy weather for you southerners...as for the media, why don't they just pull out old videos about the weather and play that? They'd save a boatload rather than sending out reporters to tell us once again that it's snowing and traffic is bad. Duh...
|
I know.....they tell us all not to get out on the roads unless it's an emergency and yet there they are.......driving all around looking for "news" in this weather. They need to take their own advice and stay home, too.
There was one funny thing that happened, though. There was a big backup of tractor trailers south of Atlanta and, of course, the media was right there. One reporter went up to a truck driver who was outside his cab and asked him if this weather situation was slowing him down any and messing up his schedule. Without missing a beat the trucker said "Heck no! I drove out of my way to get stuck in this mess. I love sitting in the same place for 12 hours, burning all my fuel and being late". Served that reporter right! |
