It's snowing and blowing!
It's snowing and blowing and I am tucked in with a fleecy blanket and slippers, hanging in my jammies today. I have TWO nights off because I am prepping for a...
 colonoscopy!! Yes indeedy folks, it's that time. My doc had his on the front page of the local weekly paper and he insists that every patient who turns 50 get one. I passed that mark and he chased me down and shoved a bottle of miralax in my hand, a diet sheet filled with delicious choices such as jello, popsicles, bouillion, black coffee, tea, etc, and 4 dulcolax pills to take for supper. Ever notice how many food commercials are on when you can't eat? :p We've got maybe 8 inches of snow so far and the winds are tornadic, it's swirling around my house in a circle. I can't see the trees across the lake, my cats are sprawled near the stove, and I am staying put, for convenient access to the necessary and to just for once, be in one spot with no plans to do anything at all except watch it snow! |
Praying that the snow slows down as that would really, really sucketh if you spent all this time prepping and then got snowed in!:D
Ok, really, I hope the colonoscopy goes well for you. Keeping you in my prayers. |
Ahhhh, sounds like a perfect day...except for the prep! :D
I had one a couple of years ago. It was a breeze! No worse than a root canal or open heart surgery. KIDDING! I hope everything goes well for you and they find you have a very healthy colon. |
With any luck, you'll get snowed in and be able to feast instead.:D:p:D
I won't have one of those things, because my DH died too young, as a result of having a heart attack, during one.:( I figure if the Good Lord chooses colon cancer for my demise, then so be it. Good luck, Sweety.. |
So far, no problem!
It seems that the procedure for "cleanout" is different from what men do, I remember the old man having to do the prep for two days and it being a couple of gallons of sodium phosphate solution. He was miserable...(still laughing about it secretly here) I'm just hungry! I want bacon and eggs and 12 grain toast or a works bagel and a huge cup of cocoa! It's my favorite "snowed in" breakfast. I want to make "woodstove soup", like a nice thick seafood chowder or a veggie beef stew! Ahhh well...I can imagine how clean and shiny my colon will be when I am done, and plan what I am going to eat when it's over! Maybe I will use this to start fresh, eat nothing but veggies and broiled seafood for a few weeks and make it the start of my new diet revolution! (or maybe I will go right to the closest seafood restaurant and have a fisherman's platter, fried up fresh! LOLOL!) |
Thanks! I wasn't hungry till I read your last post, RW.
I haven't ever had a colonoscopy, either. Probably won't. I hope yours goes well......well, as well as those kind of things can go......and you get to eat whatever you want afterwards. |
I have had three; number 4 is scheduled for may. The prep is much easier now with the Miralax and dulcolax. My last procedure revealed two pre cancerous polyps and my dad had colon cancer so I would recommend everyone consider getting one at the age of 50. I did wake up during two of my procedures ( they have a tough time knocking me out:rolleyes:), but they still have not been too much of an ordeal.
|
I too have woke up during the proceedure. Many of my friends say they just used the regular sedation and even if they woke, it wasnt a big deal. I have always had very senstive intestines and mine are painful, so its a huge deal if I wake. I allow them to use Propophol now to keep me down. I dont remember a thing.
GL  |
They used Versed with DH and I believe he awoke and his BP went way up and that's when he had the heart attack.
They used Versed on me when I had my dental surgery and I woke up aggitated...my BP went way up and they brought me out of it, thank God. I think where I was lucky is that my BP is usually normal.....DH had mild high BP so his probably soared. My advise...don't used Versed, unless you've used it before, successfully. |
Well, it's OVER!
The snowstorm didn't help, I was supposed to be there at 7:30 a.m and I was late! We lost power at some point during the night and I woke up and saw light outside the blinds and freaked! We dived out of bed and called and made it there by 8:00 a.m. and they got me in ok. I thought I had "cleaned out" everything when I went to bed that night, actually was in bed at a reasonable hour, had no problems during the "cleanout", but then in the middle of the night...oops. LMAO! I won't go into detail, but a load of laundry was started in the middle of the night. I also woke up during the procedure and said "You said it wasn't supposed to hurt!" They must have knocked me out again because I woke up in the recovery room and was up and out of there within 45 minutes. I had 2 polyps removed, the doc said they didn't look like anything to worry about but I won't get the results until Monday. All in all it was not bad, nothing I want to do on a regular basis but I will have to do it again in 5 years since they did find polyps. It's my understanding that it's not unusual for polyps to be found, so I am not worrying about it. We got about 15 inches of the white stuff. It was wild here throughout the whole storm. I am sure at times I saw the same snow go by every side of my house at least 4 times. I watched it circle in the wind and was very happy to be tucked into my little house with a nice stack of wood, the stove radiating heat and a good book in my hands. I'd have loved to have the food that usually goes with it in my house! Not fair to have a few days off and not be able to eat my way through it! Rest assured that I am making up for it now!!!:p |
WooHoo, glad it's over, River. Time for the real wine and cheese.:D:hug::hug:
