I've been under the weather, Might think the bus

I've been sick and not around. So if I don't make sense that is why.

I am going to work this next week on catching up on everything.

UgH! Hate it when your sick one day, but hmmm, 11 is the pits.

Donna:grouphug:

Not sure what I had. PRobably flu and more.

Dear Donna

I know that there have been a few persistent bugs in my area... I had one that lasted a long time and led to pneumonia.
I want to slap people who go around coughing in public, not bothering to cover their mouths. Hand washing isn't very effective with airborne viruses.

I hope you feel better soon. Take care of yourself, Donna!

Dmom3005 01-17-2011 11:20 PM

Question for all!

I have not been able to keep any of my medicines down for almost 2 weeks.

I am not sure how to go about starting again.

Can you give me some ideas.

I can't exactly call the doctor's. Can't afford the visits they will require.

Medformin ? I take two 500 pills at night. I've tried 3 and threw them all
up.

Cymbalta ? I take 1 60mg in morning and one at night.
I'm thinking try a week of one and then add second.

neurotin generic? This one I have to add back slowly, I'm thinking.

I take 2 300 or 400 mg, three times a day.
But I think going 1 for 4 days, then adding another, and another.
THen working back to the 2 three times a day.

Zanaflex, 1 ? 3 times a day. This is one my primary wants me off.
So we will see.

there are others. But these are first important.

I can't just go back on all at once.

I also have to make sure I can keep them down.

Donna:grouphug:

Dear Donna,

1. The most immediate concern is that you are still sick.
Call your primary doc to ask for help getting better.

2. Medformin seems like the most important of these meds that you list.

3. Do you take any heart medication? That might be important.

4. Are you drinking liquids? Can you keep them down?

donna thank you for the update, sorry that you have been ill. I agree with mari call your doctor to review your meds.

on adding in Neurontin... which i've done...

Dear Donna,

on the gabapentin, may i suggest you add/increase doses, first in the evening, then in the rest of the day, and slower at first.
  • Start with one pill (300, or 400mg) at night. take it after you are sure the Metformin is going to stay down. the last thing you need is multiple meds coming up. Do that for 2 nights.
  • The 3rd night, increase the evening dose to target (2 pills). Again, stay at that dose a second night.
  • Next, I'd introduce a midday dose - one pill. See how you fare with grogginess or other side effects, before stepping up...
  • Then, add one pill in the morning. See how you fare...
  • Next, increase the midday dose to target (2 pills) and see how you fare...
  • Last of all, bump up the morning dose, to target (2 pills).

i've done it this way with Neurontin before - and with other 3xday AEDs because they tend to cause grogginess which can even be convenient at night, a nuisance at midday, and a horrible in the morning. my past doctors have also suggested this approach.
that is just my input, clearly, listen to your own doctor since so many meds are involved and you are unwell still, and your own body.

you might need to wait to add the neurontin until you can handle the Metformin without having nausea. it depends which is more important to get up to target, so ask the doc.

many healing hugs dearie :hug::hug::hug:

Thanks everyone

Yes, I am procrastinating about calling the doctor's office.

I was supposed to go to the ER if not better after the
Phengran suppository.

But because I've never taken it this form before. I didn't know
how long I should wait.

And my husband is a pain on this. We just might not have the
insurance to go.

Donna

bizi 01-18-2011 11:09 AM

your nausea should have subsided very quickly this route is absorbered the fastest way. It will make you sleepy just to let you know that.
bizi

OhKay 01-18-2011 04:07 PM

Donna,

I'm sorry you're feeling so lousy! And having trouble tolerating the pills you need. Have you tried the suppository yet?

I HATE the ER and it isn't cheap. Unless it's an emergency, IMHO you're better off following up with your primary in the office or over the phone.
To the credit of ERs you can receive care w/o insurance and then agree to pay a small amount a month (ie/ $10/mo).
They can treat immediate nausea in the ER, but they will just send you home with the same pills your primary can prescribed. They can order the same tests that your primary can order.

I hope this is just a cold symptom & you get better soon!

Dmom3005 01-19-2011 12:12 AM

I guess I didn't explain real well. I started using the suppository last Monday the 10th. As of last night I had used between 6 and 8.

So this evening after things were getting worse again. I went to the
Med Express. That is run by the same group my Doctor is with.

Main reason not the doctor. Is because i can't seem to get through.

But I have a URI infection. And was given the dissolvable phenagran
type thing. A prescription for the infection.

And because I had x-ray's and Labs. I also have to do the big jug
of stuff tonight. I need to get rid of lots of Stools in my body.

If I don't feel lots better by tomorrow afternoon, I'm to have a Creatine
Kidney CT scan I believe is the exact name.

The doctor isn't sure if the Kidney's have been affected. He says because
I haven't gotten any better.

( will try some if not all my meds. Tomorrow and later. I am to take
the nausea med 30 minutes before others.

Hi everyone

I got lucky, doesn't look like it went into my kidneys.
I have to admit that would have really freaked me out.
We were warned when I was a kid to watch my kidneys.
That I could end up on diaysis one day.

But they didn't explain it well. And I've always watched
till about 10 years ago.

Know I will be watching stronger again.

Hi Dmom3005. I was sick with some sort of virus about 2 weeks ago. The muscles, and joints in my body suddenly became painfull, and I could hardly get up. The next day I started to feel better. I don't know what I had,but I was glad that I was feeling better.

I hope that you feel better soon. BF:hug::hug::hug:

Wow I am glad the Kidneys are not affected, but sure hope that you can start to feel better soon. Thinking of you and sending a prayer for health dear friend.

OhKay 01-22-2011 03:18 PM

Donna,

I'm glad your infection didn't effect your kidneys!

If you're concerned about your kidney function, watch your urine output. If you begin to see that it has begun to drop significantly, see your mdoc as soon as possible.
Speak to your mdoc to see if he has done any renal panels recently. Discuss your concerns with him, and see if you need to have them regularly. The results of these tests can give you and him a good indications about how your kidneys are functioning.

Take care, Donna! :hug::hug::hug:

bizi 01-23-2011 03:04 PM

The best way to check your kidneys is a 24 hour urine collection....have they done this for you?

Dmom3005 01-24-2011 10:43 AM

Hi everyone

I am feeling lots better. My only concern now is I can't seem to find
a cause for the dizziness I get when I stand up. Or lay on one side
mainly of my head. I have always as many of you know had dizziness.

But this is really back, and bad. I don't know what to do.

Should I call my Neurologist/Opthamologist for a appointment. He is
the one that helped with this issue before. Could it be its back because
of the letting this infection go longer.

I don't think my primary would find a ear infection, because they don't
hurt. And I didn't have one last week.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Donna:grouphug:

Ps. I am not really catching up with folks. Just not on. So hope all are well and good.

OhKay 01-24-2011 02:49 PM

Donna,

I've had problems with dizziness and passing out when standing up, especially if my BP is low and/or I'm dehydrated. Also have dizziness and nausea... vertigo... from MS tho.
They usually do orthostatic signs on me- taking BP and pulse while laying down, sitting and standing to see if there is a drop in BP or a pulse increase.

I'm glad you've seen a neurologist about this in the past. It may be time to make an appointment.

I wish you were feeling better Donna!:hug::hug:

Dmom3005 01-24-2011 04:06 PM

Thanks Kay,

The dizziness is better right now. I'm going to monitor to see if I need
to make a appointment.

Dmom3005 01-25-2011 11:45 AM

Hi everyone

I feel really good, other than I am still having problems with the dizziness.
Its not something that is there all the time. I do have a question, if anyone knows. Is there a chance there is a infection if the area under your ear
is really sore. I do now that my neck is very tight, and that could be the
problem too. I am going to schedule a massage tomorrow.

Donna:grouphug:

Mari 01-25-2011 06:10 PM

Dear Donnna,
I don't know this stuff.

Do you have walk in clinics in drug stores like we do here for 50 dollars?

M.

OhKay 01-25-2011 06:48 PM

Donna, there are lymph nodes in the area under there ear but...

if you are also having neck pain, the pain under your ear may be related, depending where/what your neck pain originates from.

Dmom3005 01-27-2011 09:46 AM

Yes we have walk in at some of the pharmacies. But we also have
the med express that I went too.

I am better today. Will see what tomorrow brings.

Donna:grouphug:

ps. on another note, husbands company got first real job last night.
He is better.

Dear Donna

so happy for all the good news... you are feeling better, hubby has new job, yaaaay! :yahoo:

tenderness or mild swelling in neck area can be swollen lymph nodes as Kay said - could mean ear or sinus infection... if so, could affect balance / dizziness. easily checked by any mdoc, and sooner the better.

tenderness/swelling should feel different (soft but quicker pain to touch) than tight muscles. touch the area very gently with your fingertips and try to discern. swollen lymph nodes will "reply" very quickly and usually do not feel stiff. they may feel globby and shift around with hardly any pressure at all. stiff muscles won't move without a good deal of pressure.

other thought is if you've had a long period of bed rest, perhaps you just need a readjustment period - you have not been using your ears for balance... i agree if it does not resolve soon check with your Neuro or migraine doc - the person that did the Dizziness training in the past.

hope you feel better soon... really glad you are up and about again, and for your hubby's new job. :)
