Another UTI.

It takes a day or two of feeling s***ty, before I'm pretty sure I'm in the beginnngs of another UTI..:( I just gobbled down a bunch of Cranberry caps and washed them down with a big glass of cran. juice.

I'm so tired, all I want to do is lay down and rest/sleep. I have things to do, but they're not gonna get done today.

Just when I cheered up, things got worse..:D OH well, just a little side trip and a layover. I will survive. :Viking::Crazy 2::Help:

Feel better soon, SalPal!

kicker 03-04-2011 01:16 PM

Sal,
Feel better, take care of yourself.

barb02 03-04-2011 02:15 PM

Sally, Hope you fee better soon. Hope you get started on antibiotics and do not just rely on cranberry pills and juice.

SallyC 03-04-2011 06:50 PM

I also have some AZO. I try to avoid ABs, if I can. We'll see how it goes??

Thanks all..:grouphug:

Are some people more prone to UTI's than others? I don't recall ever having one. (Well, not yet, anyway). Hope you start feeling better soon!!

I have the same question. I've not had a UTI to my knowledge (from the sounds of it, if you have one you'll know it).

I hope you're feeling better real soon SallyC

SallyC 03-04-2011 08:28 PM

I think anytime you retain urine, you are prone to infection. With an MS bladder, I do sometimes retain, even though I take measures not to..

agate 03-04-2011 09:00 PM

Sally, I'm sorry you're not well.

I've had more UTIs than I can count, and I think it's good to get to a doctor at the first sign of one, have a urine culture and get hold of the best drug that will work against whatever bacteria are found.

It's all too easy for the kidneys to get involved. I don't mean to scare you but I myself don't fool around with UTIs.

SallyC 03-05-2011 11:01 AM

Still feeling pretty carpy, but it's the weekend so I'll wait untill Monday and if I am still in this shape, will call Doc. He'll probably call in some Amoxicillin for me. It usually takes longer, but it does the job.

Thanks for all your caring..:grouphug:

Debbie D 03-05-2011 12:47 PM

Sorry to hear you're ailin', girl...make sure to drink plenty of fluids...

SallyC 03-07-2011 01:59 PM

Called Doc and he called in some ABs for me. Still feel like carp...arggghhh.:(

Sal,
Do you think the AZO thingies *oh carp can't think of the word* well, do they accurately tell us that we have a UTI?

AZO is a pill taken for the pain caused by a UTI. If you are talking about the home dip stick test for a UTI, I have no idea. I've not tried it?

Debbie D 03-08-2011 02:57 PM

Right...I was thinking of the dx sticks. I'm afraid to use the pills with all the other meds I take...sometimes I think I'm going to wake up and will discover that I've turned into a giant gel tab...

Hey Sally. I cath morn & night (and use leg bag) since i'm a para and I constantly have uti's. Easy way to tell is pee in a clear cup and look for cloudiness. My last Culture & Sensitivity urine test showed the bacteria was suceptable to only a few anibiotics. Cipro was one. Was my last choice after 1st choice failed cause every time I take Cipro, I get the tendon issues. Alergist said hmmm "why would it cause tendon problems?" I said maybe I don't make enough collagen. Confused him so he walked out.

SallyC 03-08-2011 08:43 PM

I'm allergic to Cipro (not good for MSers, anyway), all the sulfas and Macridid.....so, am taking Amoxicillin. It takes a little longer, but it works..

I usually don't retain, if I'm careful to squeeze my bladder to get out those last few drops..:D

I'm sorry that you have them often...grrrrr I hate them.

EddieF 03-09-2011 08:32 PM

Lucky for you Amox works. I'm allergic to all of em too they make me itchy!
My C&S showed the bacteria I had wasn't susceptible (won't die) from Amox so I had to go with broad spectrum but it still comes back. I drink 1/2 gallon water/day.

ali12 03-10-2011 10:40 AM

So sorry Sally, I hope you feel better soon! I have a UTI / Cystitis at the moment so understand what you are going through! For the last 2 days I have been living on the toilet and drinking crandberry juice, lol! I hope yours settles down soon, and mine aswell! Take care hun!

agate 03-10-2011 02:10 PM

Hope you're feeling better, Sally!

DebbieD, I've used the test sticks for UTIs many times and keep a supply of them around.

They're by no means very accurate but I use them as a guideline. Sometimes when I have symptoms of a UTI and use the test strip and it comes up negative, I decide not to do anything about it and just hope the symptoms will go away. If it comes up positive, I give the doctor a call. The doctor's office will do its own test because doctors don't have much confidence in those home UTI test kits--or at least doctors I've dealt with don't.

For me, the home test is just a way of trying to make sure I'm not calling the doctor needlessly.

SallyC 03-13-2011 03:32 PM

UTI all gone..:yahoo:

justdeb 03-27-2011 06:49 PM

Frequent uti

Because we are suppressing our immune systems with meds we are more prone to the infectious processes than the general poplulation. inculing uti.

kicker 03-28-2011 06:37 AM

Totally unmedicated (DMDs) for years but still get UTIs. I think it's from retaining cause muscles don't squeeze bladder so good anymore. Gotta be. I try to drink water and fully void as often as I can.

SallyC 03-28-2011 12:26 PM

You both are right!!:)

EddieF 03-31-2011 07:49 PM

Well, I never got the cranberry supps and my uti came back which is only susceptible to Cipro and Rocephin. The Cipro gave me the tendon problems which no Dr knows why, my guess I say to them is low growth hormone or more red blood cells needed. They don't know so I said to Uro today set me up for Rocephin i.v. whch is infused daily for 10 days.

One dr told me the cranberry supps just lower ph/raise acidity like Vitamin C but I hear that's not true. I heard it keeps the bacteria from sticking around and get's pee'd out. I've taken Vit C 500mg 4x/day for 22 yrs.

Congrats Sally & thanks for help.

SallyC 03-31-2011 09:22 PM

I've heard that citric acid/orange juice/Vit C is not good for UTIs at all. And Cipro is not good for PwMS.. But, if Cipro is the only thing that helps, you may have to take the bad with the good.

Good luck, sweety, feel better soon.
