My mother is finally having her first knee replacement

Okay, one week from today. My mom will have one of her knee's replaced.
I am sad, because I had planned to take the day and some other's after
it off and be there.

But because she has waited and waited to get the other doctor's to okay
this surgery. She was just okayed today. I've had a committment to
go with my daughter-in-law and Grandson to speech evaluation that
afternoon for almost a month. We have already waited for months for
this. Because they lost it for some reason.

My mom understands but feel bad. But I will take tm off and arrange
to be there. Driving back and forth for pt and for the weekends, to
get Derrick so he can be over there with me.

Donna,

Save yourself and your dil and grandson -- stick with the plan.
Your mother will benefit from your help later.

Good luck.
M

Yes I plan to do just that.

I don't plan to tell her my dil that its going on till later.

So she doesn't have to feel guilty.

I hope no one has to feel guilty about this- it's just unfortunate timing.
You will be there for your mom when you can.
I'm glad she's getting her knee done- after she heals, she will be better for it.

My mother did well through surgery. She did run a slight fever this
evening.

I don't know much more yet. I had hoped to go see her tomorrow
and stay a couple of days. But Derrick is sick tonight and I think
running a fever.

I'm guessing I'm going to be home with him tomorrow. Taking him
to the doctor.

I'm afraid he might have strep.

Dear Donna,

I'm send well wishes for you and your family members.

I didn't get to go to see mom today. But I'll go tomorrow hopefully.

So far if I've planned to, Derrick has been sick. But then we had
bad storms yesterday and a delay for school.

And I was supposed to take hm to work tomorrow.
Now I can go to a meeting I need to. Then to therapy for my shoulder
and see my mom.

And stay a while. She had to have blood today.

I'll say some good words for you and your family

If she received blood today then her count was really low...she should feel better.
you are a good daughter

I went to see mom. She is really down and restless, and of course tired.
But the therapy wore her out. She will get better as the days go by.

Dear Donna,
I hope that she continues to see improvement.

Dear Donna

... perpetually playing catch-up here...

glad your mom got through the procedure ok and i hope she continues to get stronger. i see the restlessness as a positive sign... feistiness and wanting to get better. (the opposite would be apathy which gets you nowhere.) and it sounds like she is receiving good care.

you are a good daughter and a good mom. i hope Derrick doesn't have strep. yuck.

know that you are in my thoughts even though my posting has been terribly sporadic lately.

Thanks to all.

I spent the weekend in Kokomo visiting my mom.

In the rehab center. I spent about 2 to 4 hours each
day with her.

But today with all that kept coming to visit. And the fact
she kept going to sleep I was there about 1 1/2 hours.

Then came home.

Hi! I hope your mom is doing really well. My mom had both knees done and it is thebest thing she ever did...she is 71 and can do what she has never been able to do with her grandkids...get on the floor and play with them. It took somewhere in the area of a year or so to heal completey and to get used to the new material in the knees, but she is really hapy she did it. I wish we could convince my mother in law to get it done....she is a mess.

Take care and I wish you all the best with you and your mom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dmom3005 04-25-2011 08:35 PM

Yes my mother is planning to get the other knee done after this one
has had sometime to heal.

She really needs them both bad. So it should be a lot better when she
is done.
