yahoofs
does anybody know what that is?
|
Have you had it just appear out of nowhere as your homepage on your computer?
|
razzle, you need to run all your spyware and adware programs. even your anti virus. sounds like you got something. i'll be back on later and i will check a website that lists these spoof type of "things" worms, spyware...that can get in your computer.

Thanks, curious.
I didn't want to say too much until I knew more, but there are two Trojans in particular that I was wondering about that were around a few years back. W32/Vote-A Type * Worm Aliases * W32/Vote@MM * W32.Vote.A@mm * WTC Vote.A redirects the start page of Internet Explorer to a particular yahoofs address and does a number of other things. There's also a Vote-B. Hopefully razzle will come back soon and tell us what's going on. I'll check in from time to time today when I can. |

I've been having issues with my own computer- so I sympathize will all of you! I had to reinstall XP about 5 times , reformat part of the hard drive, plus I was trying to get a wireless card to work with my dual boot OS of Linux on the second harddrive - so I feel like I was going in circles for about 2 weeks. |
I got my Guestbook fixed Razzles:D
The Journal/Blog is fixed too- but didn't write anything. |
Hi again,
I have never used yahoo groups, so don't know anything about them. I just did some searches in their questions and answers sections and didn't really find anything too helpful that's for sure. You said it was guigrp.yahoofs, but wondered if it's actually gui.grp.yahoofs ... with another dot in between the gui and the grp? gui is a graphical user interface [graphical user interface, often abbreviated as GUI, is a type of user interface using graphics for interaction with a computer or other media formats which employs graphical images, widgets, along with text to represent the information and actions available to a user. The actions are usually performed through direct manipulation of the graphical elements. - got that def. from Wiki] grp is obviously groups. and yahoofs... well that's a mystery to me but I am guessing that yahoo uses that as one of their groups servers. However, if you've got pop-ups blocked correctly you shouldn't still be getting that pop-up. I would imagine you've double checked that since it came back from the shop. There is no website called yahoofs.com I couldn't find anything in ARIN Whois for some reason but I found something in CoolWhois, whatever that is. http://www.coolwhois.com/d/yahoofs.com I'm only finding the same sort of stuff that curious is finding... lots of talk about spyware, trojans and not much else. I'm sorry I can't help you more with it, but keep hitting dead ends. |
from Dan's Domain Hall of Shame site.
Yahoo also acquired EGroups, and now has its website at the logical subdomain groups.yahoo.com, but for some reason the email messages generated from it use the less logical yahoogroups.com in the return address. And, for yet another unneccessary extra domain, files in the Yahoo Groups file libraries are served from subdomains of yahoofs.com. (Just what are "Yahoofs" anyway... something that Yahorses have???) http://domains.dan.info/hall/shame.html However, if you type in yahoofs.com this is what comes up.
