Trans Global Amnesia
 

Has anyone here ever had this....A while ago I thought I was having a stroke..I was writing a letter on here when all the letters came out mixed up,thought there was a problem with the computer.Twenty minutes later my son came home and I couldn't talk.I only remember parts of this.I could barely walk and had to be helped.It took me six hours before I started to act normal.After Tests my neuro said it was Trans Global Amnesia...Not a stroke..Has anyone ever heard or experienced this.I still am worried that this is a warning sign.I still have feelings of being light headed ringing in my ears...Look forward for your help Jim

My mother had what the doctors called Transient Global Anemia years ago following heart surgery. It never happened again. But as I recall, it ONLY involved amnesia, or memory loss, not problems walking or talking. Is yours a tentative diagnosis? Will you be getting a second opinion?

Are you sure he didn't say....Transient Ischemic Attack?

You may also have had a TIA, because of the walking problem. SometimeS a TGA will follow a TIA.

It is called Transient Global Amnesia....Thanks Kitty for all the info..Just makes me wonder I talk like a robot putting words in wrong place and reversing words and sentences.Also I lost my temper with the nurse something I would never do as my faded in and out..They rushed me by ambulance to another hospital saying it was a mild stroke..I was recovered by then...After that my MS Neurologist did one test and said it TGA..
Has anyone else had this happen?Just worried a little..

Me, too. There are too many similarities to a stroke for me to dismiss that possibility so quickly. I hope it's not but maybe just get another specialists opinion before you dismiss it too quickly.

Trans Global Amnesia
 

I had a Trans Global Amnesia last year.
Thankfully I was at work at the time (hospital) and they acted very fast.

I stumbled and began disorientated; everything seemed to be in slow motion and I could not think of ‘words’ I just kept repeating over and over again ‘ I don’t feel well’. I don’t remember any more than that; my family and colleagues filled me in with what happened next.

They told me I had gone back in time and thought I still worked on another ward from over six years ago!

They took me to A&E where they gave an injection for suspected stroke. They did scans and MRI scan and took bloods and an ECG. apparently I even used a bed pan!

Around five hours into the TGA I could not speak; lift my legs or arms or open my mouth. I became ‘aware’ after 8 hours when I found myself admitted onto a stroke ward. I then ‘repeated’ things for another 24 hours and my short term memory was affected for a further 8 weeks. I also had left side weakness. I don’t remember anything of what happened. The CT scan indicated that I’d had this TGA and also in my ECG. My family and the nursing staff said that I had repeated myself and asked the same thing several times

They started me on aspirin and symvistain for cholesterol; they told me that there was no understanding why this happens other than it could be a blood clot blocking the oxygen which caused short term symptoms. Oddly enough they had this condition on the Martin program where Doc Martin had a patient with the same condition.

I have recently heard of Trans Global Amnesia and that is due to a local news story where a woman pulled into a gas station, left her two children in the van and disappeared. This was approximately 1or 2 in the afternoon and she ended up calling her husband at about midnight 20 miles from where she left her children and van.

She was scared, in pain (she had walked the entire distance) and had no memory how she got to where she was. The last information doctors released to the public was they thought she either experienced a seizure or Trans Global Amnesia.

There are different types of amnesia but as B2y stated memory loss is a hallmark of amnesia but you can still function (walk, talk, ect.)

Found this web site last Saturday night 9/1/12 because I had another bout with this TGA Friday afternoon, just needed to find someone out there that has went thru this.

..Snoopy...I think i saw this girl on the "Dr. Phil show"...??
( or at least something very similar )

It's possible. I don't know what, if any, TV programs she may or may not have been on. My only information at the time was our local news.
