Our US economy is upsetting me.
I don't understand why our government can't rationally sit down, and come up with a plan. What they are doing by not agreeing on anything is jeopardizing all of our futures.
I am so depressed about this, that I have been loosing interest in my personal interests even more then usual, and I don't feel like doing anything, and my anxiety is going up,and down. I've even wrestled with self destructive thoughts. I heard both the President, and the Speaker of the house live on TV last night. In my opinion they where both right, and they where both wrong. BF:hug::hug::hug: |
you and I can get through this
Dear Friend,
It is my firmest belief that the Pres and the Speaker of the House will get an agreement in time. If they don't, the rich people in this country and around the world will suffer the most. The rich have the most to lose if the US goes into default. Try not to worry about it. I limit my tv and radio listening. You and I cannot do anything about it. It is totally out of my power. I only check in for the updates. It could be 10 more days before they agree. Please take care of yourself. M. |
It's what politicians do.
I'm depressed too, but let's hold hands (you & me in our minds) & try very hard NOT to get suckered into this game of chicken the politicians are playing. Our government is dysfunctional. I really think a lot of us voters are beginning to notice this!
And the more of us who notice, the better the chance we're going to be okay. Mari's right, I think, about just not listening to the news now, because nothing they say now will make any difference. I had to force myself away from the TV last night. I hate what all of them are doing to us, scaring the daylights out of us, but we might as well ignore it all until August 3rd. So what do you think? Can you join me in taking a vacation from the news for a week? Spend that time with hobbies, personal interests you mentioned. Try not to feed your anxieties, which is what the politicians are doing. Please please please go talk with someone or get on a help line if any even slightly destructive thoughts get at you. Hang on with the rest of us for this week. I'm playing something called Magic Piano to divert myself. By then this show be over. I think the news will be okay. They'll put things off for a while. They'll want to make us worry some more, all over again! It's what politicians do. Let's not play their game.:hug::hug::hug: |
I was more concerned when we had to bail out the banks.
I talked to a money man recently and asked why when Pres. Clinton was in office how come we had such a surplus instead of a deficit? I was told because the prez kept increasing the deficit ceiling so we would have the surplus. Bottom line, they will raise the debt ceiling and the checks will come. BUT it is an environment where you have a Rep. Speaker of the house and Dem Prez with elections coming. As much termoil as can be made will blow smoke and get people upset. If we survived the loans to the banks crisis, we can wade through this muddle easily. 2008 was a terrible time, tragic, but our checks are coming. |
What is so sad about this all. Is the people that they are hurting
the most are the ones like you, Steve. And some of the others on here. And my son, and daughter-in-law who depend on the SSI check, their medicaid and other things to live. And all this talk of no money, no checks and no medicaid, at least in Indiana. Is really taking a toll. I had a frantic call from my Son and Daughter-in-law (like) last night, and I just had to say. Its about the stupdi government and what the president and congress is doing right now. Try to ignore it. Donna:grouphug: |
hey there
(((Steve)))
i know it's hard... can you stay away from the news or do you feel compelled to watch/listen? i avoid them completely. if my parents watch i even use earplugs sometimes. you may wonder how i learn about important events.... word of mouth mostly. the big things get talked about. but after i get the basics of the conversation i will bail on that too as in make like a tree and leave. Maybe time to read some bible verses that make you feel secure... that God will look after you, regardless of what humans in huge auditoriums go on and on about inconclusively. the sun will still rise every day and set every day like clockwork. and the beautiful moon will follow its cycles also. and you will have food, shelter and medical care. you WILL be OK.:hug::hug: ~ waves ~ |
I feel compelled to watch the stuff, and read it. I am like a maniac. I am starting to believe what you guys are saying and what my mom says...it's just a scare.
I hope you guys all feel better soon! Take care!!! |
It burns me up also that they would dare consider to take the peoples money(Social Security,Medicare,Medicaid). That has never been their money. They are calling them entitlements. Their not worried about this because they get a government pension.
Thank you all for your kind words to me. I watched a little NBC news at 6:30 PM. I don't need to see the News media rehash this all night, and plan to stay away from the news tonight. Like I said,"Thanks". ((((((Hugs)))))) BF:hug::hug::hug: |
Dear Friend, Yes. Stay away from the news. Find something that feeds you goodness. M. |

I think we should start a campaign,
To take away their salaries till they start doing the job they are paid to do. Instead of taking this kind of talk. Its time, they learned that were tired of this. We get it every year. DOnna:grouphug: |

Then they may voluntarily limit there terms, and get out of perminent Government service. That's what our forefathers did,and it worked. They went back to work outside of the government. If they start a war(Like the last war in Iraq),they should be made to know that it's going to cost them to the uttermost also, but it's to late for that. I saw that unravel, and they lied about the cost in the beginning, and lied about alot of things involving that. I appologize to any vets. BF:hug::hug::hug: |
Dear Friend, You speak from your heart. M |
Friend
I think your words are very heartspeaking. I do have some interesting thoughts this morning. Got a letter dated yesterday from Social Security office. Local. Just as if none of the things talkng about were going on. Kind of made rest obsolete. But its maddening. Derrick is losing 67.00 till the overpayment from March 2010 to May 2011. Has been made. They say they overpaid by 250.00 ? something cents. I say, Okay, but you better not make this mistake again. I'm tired of making sure you get all the records, but you don't record them. Donna Good news, not a word about not getting payments due, period though. Just that they are going to be a little smaller. :grouphug: |
They want to creat a panel, because they don't trust themselves to make the cuts. ?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ?????????????????????????? This is a fine mess. The News media are making it sound worse. They keep talking about entitlements.:thud:
If they are talking about our entitlements, they should talk about their's at the same time. They are not above the American people who they represent. BF:hug::grouphug::hug: |
:I-Agree:
Friend, Yes. I share your concerns. These people need to get the job done already. I had the tv on around 11:00 Sunday morning when CNN was expecting something to happen in the Senate. Then I fell back asleep. Later, I went on line to check for updates. I hope they do what they are supposed to do and wrap this up. Try not to focus on this too much. We'll be told when it is done. M |
I think its their way of saying I'm superior.
Theit not though. So just vote why don't you. Donna:grouphug: |
It's over. I think.
The President, the Speaker of the House, & the Senate Majority Leader have reached an agreement.:Grin-Nod:
The SOTH & the SML must rally the votes, but that's their jobs so I think we can leave them to it.:highfive: The Asian markets opened higher today, showing their belief that it is, in fact over. Other markets have followed. The whole world has seemed to breathe one big sigh of relief.:yahoo: So go hug a friend:hug:! Celebrate the daylights outta the day! P.S. (((HUGS, BF))) |

Amen We're done with that for 18 months. I am going to take a total break from the tv and radio. :sunchair: M. |
I'm still trying to find out what they are going to do with Medicare. I'm concerned about medicaid, and Social Security too.
I heard that they wanted to put a firewall around Social Security,Medicare, and Medicaid. Then two hours later I heard that they where going to take money from Social Security. Did I hear them right,or was I mistaken? BF:mad::grouphug::hug::hug::hug: |
Dear Friend, http://money.cnn.com/2011/08/01/news...ing_vote.cnnw/ From what I read, in this particular plan there are no cuts to Social Security, Medicad, Medicare, or Veterans Benefits. In the future, they might raise the age for social security and raise the amount that working people pay into it, but none of that has happened yet --- some things that they expect to work out in the later votes. They do not want to take away money from people who are already getting checks. They prefer trimming here and there for FUTURE people getting checks. M. |
Thank you Mari. I was trying to get the news on TV. My mistake. They where saying everything.
That article was helpful. BF:hug::hug::hug: |
Once again....

I'm on Social Security Disability. That's why I feel like I'm out on a uncertain limb. I'm not of retirement age. I'm in my 50s.
I don't have a 401k anymore. I had to withdraw it early, and lost some of it because of that. I needed the money to have between the job,and the hearing. Then I waited 2,and 1/2 years for my hearing to either get it,or be denied. I got it with a judge, and other people present. I'm worried that I could loose it. Then what could I do? ?????????? Truthfully, this scares me. This may be part of my disorder. I live with it all the time now. BF:hug::hug::hug: |
Yeah, I'm glad we did away with TV at our house about 8 years ago. I'm typically oblivious of the news. I'd probably be nuts if I watched that stuff all the time.

I grew up with no TV and not much radio. I read the news paper as a teenager. No TV is a different way of life. I don't know if I could do that now. Instead of TV do you watch movies? Does your daughter watch TV at other people's houses? M. |
Dear Friend,
I am happy that you get social security. The government will keep sending those checks. I wish you had a good therapist. M. |

Yes, we watch movies and old series like 'Little House on the Prairie','I love Lucie','The Beverly Hillbillies', etc, etc, etc. And yes, she is allowed to watch TV when she goes other places. But she watches things like 'Little House' over and over...drives me bonkers  |

i understand your fears. i am a little younger but not much. it is such a relief to work again but also stressful... i don't know if i can hang on to it between the migraines and the moods. i lost all the money i had saved up, in two separate occasions of my life and i don't kow if i'd be eligible for the SSDI equivalent here. i hope the bipartisan agreement being settled has helped alleviate your fears at least for now. i want the best for you. you are in my thoughts. (((hugs))) ~ waves ~ |
I would like to mention one thing in public. In 1961,in President Dwight D. Eisenhowers farewell speech,he warned us about the Military Industrial Complex. He became a five star general before he became president.
His speech on the Military Industrial Complex is on Youtube. Now WWII was needed beyond any war that we've had in more then a century. Once again I have the utmost respect for our vets.,and military familys. I went to a military academy. BF:hug::hug::hug: |
Today we had a dramatic drop in the stock market. They said it's the worse since 2008.
They said it was due to Japan, and England adjusting there currency. The fear that the news is generating is one thing after another. I hear fear,fear,fear,fear:Scratch-Head: There is so much hype that it's really getting on my nerves. Oh gosh. I just missed the 6:30 NBC News. I could have gotten the scoop in 10 minutes. BF:hug::grouphug::hug: |
Just remember that when it drops it comes back at a later time.
Its okay, we will get it back. They have to say they don't like what is going on. Donna:grouphug: |
This constant bad news is driving me nuts. They say that we have a lesser credit rating then we've had in over 70 years I think.
They keep saying things about social security, and this gravely concerns me. I am loaded with anxiety. When I get a little relief, I hear things while changing channels on TV. BF:hug::hug::hug: |
Dear Friend,
The programs on tv are not trying to convey information to you. The point of their existence is to get you to keep watching so that they can sell more ads. Try to keep their nonsense into perspective. Take care of yourself. M |
It is said, according to the news, that we have a AA+ credit rating now, instead of a AAA credit rating on Friday.
I don't know what this is going to do to our economy. I keep hearing bad news. No one gives good news anymore. This really depressed me over the weekend. I'm having a hard time. I'm worried about the future. I wish that I could stop worrying about this subject. I live alone,so there's no one to bring me out of this dread that I feal. BF:hug::hug::hug: |

Great places, bizi. Yeah, I'm staying away from the news, these days. Not a darn thing I can do about it. Hope to get back to work Wed & do my part to get us back on track! Thanks for the cheer-up!

That is one way to look at it. By working and spending and traveling, you are helping the economy move forward. You have lots of positive energy. :) M. |
Well, I'm spending as little as possible. Cancelled the travel plans. But when I feel up to it I volunteer at the SPCA & visit the oldest dogs & cats up for adoption. They get passed over a lot & get depressed, so I try to cheer them up. Doesn't help the economy but makes me feel worth something. Better than watching the news:D:hug:!
