Happy Weekend Everyone! Weekend update.

Hello? How is everyone?

What are you doing this weekend? Any company visiting? Any shopping?

I'm behind my usual summer schedule of cleaning the house.
I bought some pillows. 'Have to go buy more.

Does anyone have tricks that do not include use of neurotoxins to get ants out of my kitchen?

JudeLauren, can you show me how to play Magic Piano on my iPod? :) :Music 2:

M.

BlueMajo 07-28-2011 11:02 PM

Wait a minute... It's been a while since we did these threads ! LOVE them ! Thanks for starting them again Mari !

I need to study becsuse this monday I have to present my project in front of ALL my institute  so id better not do a ridiculous....

I dont have an ipod but an ipad and want to play the piano too ! :D

Oh oh... For ants.... Have you tried detergent ? I feel sorry for them but they can be annoying.... Do you want to kill them ? Because if you just want to prevent them getting in, put mint, cinnamon or cloves in door snd windows.... They hate those and wont cross :)

bizi 07-28-2011 11:26 PM

I think black pepper does the same thing too.

Mari 07-28-2011 11:43 PM

Hi, Majo!

Have a productive weekend studying!

Regarding the ants: I found some organic spray with the main ingredient as Soy Bean Oil. That killed them but did not keep them away. Fresh minions showed up. I want them to stay away. I'll put out some of the things on your list:

Good luck Monday. Olympic athletes spend hours practicing their moves in their heads.
Think through your own steps over the weekend. By Monday you will be a professional.

Hi, Bizi!

Black pepper is a good idea. Thanks. :)

DiMarie 07-29-2011 01:43 AM

Gosh I remember my grandma with the black pepper in her trailer. I use vinegar when cleaning and have not had ants in years.

This weekend we extend our unusual heatwave, but only 90* this week will still be 88* which is a long hot summer. We have the Ez set pool up, but the rain the last few days and cooler weather kept us out. I need to drain it off, and run the solar heater through the pump.

Other then that this weekend I want to redo dd room. She is 16 in Oct and so needs an update. From Barbie I took her out for sheets, what does she pick out Hello Kitty. But we are going with the colors in the pattern of Pink and brown. She is still home schooling so not much in clothing needs, maybe 2 pairs of jeans and yoga pants.

I would love to paint her room, no I have to paint her room...maybe during the week. Next weekend we have a family reunion out of town. I get to see my two Aunts that are only 2-3 years older then me. We grew up like sisters.

Everyone have a great one

And MarJo on Monday knock them over with the presentation! :winky:

bizi 07-29-2011 09:43 AM

bizi

Happy to!:)

It's an app from Smule, called mini Magic Piano. Recently it's been free & comes with some music. Weekly, a few more pieces of free music are there which you can download. I've not used it on iPod touch, but it adverts as working on 3rd generation.

It works by dropping notes for left & right hand, spaced where keys would be, & dropped close or far apart to work as a quarter-note, whole note etc. It helps a lot if you know what the piece is supposed to sound like :winky:. You can set it so that, even if you don't tap the exact note, the right note plays (my choice).

Only my cats get to hear me & it's very relaxing & fun.

bizi 07-29-2011 05:51 PM

we now are using mozilla firefox and love it! no more internet explorer!

Hey everyone

Derrick has finished his classes. So now we get ready for the next steps.

Heehee, this weekend, he works Saturday. Hubby is talking about changing
vans oil. Which is good.

I have to travel again next week. Monday my mom has Second knee surgery
so I need to go see her for a while, then go to Indy for Transition conference,
with Derrick. On Tuesday night, Wednesday and Thursday. Lots of my
co-workers are coming too. I am in charge of IN*SOURCE's area.

Seems like good time.

Then Thursday my sister comes to pick up Derrick and they are all going
to Wisconsic Dells, as long as the state allows their Foster Son to go.

So I get some free time from Derrick. Have to figure out if I want to come
home. And see rest of family. Or just kind of hide out at my mom's house by myself. When I'm home my oldest kind of shows up. Which is fine.

Its just at times I'd like some free time.

Heehee

Have a great weekend.

Me too, You know the most magical thing about this all.

Even though he is going with my sister.

He is going 5 1/2 months seizure free.

Wow, I don't know when the last time I could say that was.

I'm with bizi.... Some time alone sounds mighty fine. Time to recharge you.

Hey, bizi!
Go to the Firefox website. They have lots of things you can add to the basic search engine. They give it focus & make it more useful, also let's you save info from a search without needing much memory. Check it out!:winky::wink:

Dear JudeLauren,

I'm taking a while to learn my iPod. i have "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star," "Fur Elise," something else by Beethoven I don't recognize, "Amazing Grace" that sounds nothing like the real version of the song when I play it,, and "Scarborough Fair" (starting to learn this one). I see now how this works best if one is familiar with the song.

Thanks for the suggestion. I was trying to play only the right hand. I can try it with the left hand involved as well.

Hey, bizi, whose the kitty in your sig??? A real cutie!

BlueCarGal 07-30-2011 06:58 PM

I'm so glad you're enjoying the Magic Piano on your iPod, Mari! I get a real kick out of mine. I agree about "Amazing Grace"--a real disappointment. They had a 2-4-1 sale awhile back on Smoola, the currency for buying music, so you could get a 50-cent song for 25-cents. I usually buy some Smoola when they have those sales, if I'm feeling rich. Hee-hee... THAT may not happen again <grin>.

bizi 07-31-2011 01:51 PM

We are trying to not eat out as much so we cooked breakfast this morning when we normally go out to breakfast on sunday mornings.
I cooked eggs over easy(turned out over cooked) and toast not toasted due to not being plugged in..sigh.. banana, v8 juice, veggie sausage pattie (over cooked in micro)...well we still were able to eat together, timing eggs and toast is tricky...I know this sounds lame...but we are not used to cooking breakfast! Last night I cooked up some preseasoned catfish in olive oil and fish fry and made up some crawfish ettoufe with onions and peppers and celery and hot sauce and cream of mush room soup and a stick of butter that is served over rice. hubby worked very hard out side and wanted to treat him.
tonight we are cooking out with some friends of ours at their house and are bringing a salad and chicken to put on their grill. We have not seen them in a couple of weeks since we and they were out of town.
hubby finished caulking the new hardy plank he installed trim pieces on the shed, it looks great! now it needs to be painted.oh I forgot...there are a couple of boards that need to be replaced...16 feet long! he will need help doing that.
I should do a little cleaning around the house, maybe take a wet swifter to my kitchen floor.
that sounds doable.

Dmom3005 07-31-2011 03:28 PM

Bizi

I'm working on trying to make myself want to cook. But hubby cooks alot.

So when I want to eat I get too. Heehee.

We are having Pork Chops tonight. Not sure what else yet. Thinking
maybe I'll make Rice or mashed potatoes.

bizi 07-31-2011 03:51 PM

well I picked up some fresh strawberries and blueberries....they look great!
fresh fruit is expensive! they say to look at it like insurance...eat well now or pay for it later in life.

In FL today. Thunderstorms surround. Temp 95, humidity 81. Staying in my cave.

How do I show my mood?

bizi 08-01-2011 09:45 AM

at the top of the page that you are on should be my mood icon under the underlined private messages link.click on it and scroll down the box to pick a mood. hope this makes sense.
bizi

BlueCarGal 08-01-2011 10:10 AM

I don't see an icon. Just:

My Mood: Change Mood.

I click on Change Mood, a menu drops down, but the only choice on it is No Mood. Not a biggie. I thought it came along with status change or something, but then I noticed newbies using it. You're getting to know me: I like my toys <grin>!

i love swiffers. precisely because they are doable.

although i liked the old Johnson and Johnson model better, before the other ppl came along with the spiffy name "Swiffer" and ripped their market right from under.

but swiffers are cool. i have not done one wet. i wash floor on hands and knees. i get too frustrated with tightspots otherwise.

BlueCarGal 08-02-2011 02:43 AM

Ooooh, BlueMajo! Get Mini Magic Piano FOR iPAD!!!

MP is much easier on iPad because of the larger "play" area. Oh, get it, do! Such fun, so relaxing! :);):D:hug:

bizi 08-03-2011 12:09 AM

I did the check book tonight and it does not look good.
It is like we were manic this summer and spent and spent on food and going out to eat. the trip to IN was expensive this year.
and my business is down...I contacted www.seizethedeal.com
business to try to use their marketing campaign to get more clients but they have yet to contact me...and I did not find a phone number to call them.
It is a way to obtain new clients they pay half price for your services and you pay a commission to the company so no upfront costs and potentially a lot of new clients with repeat potential. I am going to try to pack a lunch this week and save some money.
When I add up our regular bills it is just plain expensive to live.
I went to the grocery store to pick up some meat and groceries and spent almost $100. for a few bags!I was proud of myself for not drinking tonight...I usually end up drinking while doing the check book...alcohol is a big expense at our house so I am trying to cut back on that too.I have raised the thermostat so that it is not as cool. lowered our homeowners insurance, trying to change phone services, cell phones and internet provider plus utilities is $400 a month, mortgage is $1208(includes home owners insurance and taxes), student loans $700, our retirement plans $750, car insurance, $126, dry cleaners $120, gym member ship, $60, newspaper, $14, e music $12, health insurance $450, prescriptions $100, therapy visits, $15, dermatology appointments $25 every 2 months, pdoc visits $95(once every 3 months), vitamins $20, lawn care $80-$120 a month, hair cuts and colors, $60. and this does account for gasoline or food costs or entertainment, alcohol, clothing which we are not shoppers. car repairs, shed repairs, liability insurance $350 for the year, RN license, $80, $500 quarterly irs taxes, voice mail pager, $140 for the year, it is expensive to just live.
bizi
sigh

Mari 08-03-2011 03:01 AM

Dear Bizi,
You are doing great. You are lucky to have a husband who can work with you on most of this. You have already noted a few places where you can cut.

An expert might tell you to work on saving more for retirement.
The school loan is high and costing you interest. If you can pay more toward it each month you can pay it off faster and put the rest into retirement.
Keep the insurances and retirement accounts. They are important.

I think you said once that you have a 15 year mortgage. That will be nice to look forward to paying off.

I think you are right to look for ways to raise your income and to minimize trips, alcohol, and eating out.

Entering the weekend baaaaadly.

Not going to work... Passed out, from the heat, I'm guessing. Did I already say that here? Had bloodwork done but mdoc's is out of town. I've gone to ground in my FL cave & have appt Mon a.m.
Besides the physical woes, I'm thinking I may be beginning a slide into depression. Guess I'd better get an appt with pdoc too...

Mari 08-05-2011 01:52 AM

Dear Judelauren,
I'm worried about you in the heat. You had a problem with the heat a week or two ago and ended up in the hospital.

Can you call the pdoc Friday? You don't need to wait until Monday. You are new to the diagnosis. Some pdocs let us adjust our meds within a certain range by ourselves.

mymorgy 08-05-2011 07:44 AM

Bizi

I just heard about this on cnn a couple of days ago.
http://www.ooma.com/micro/faq.html
it is a cheap phone service after you pay about 229 for the box. then it is a little over 3 dollars a month for taxes etc. I am considering it.
bobby

bizi 08-05-2011 09:34 AM

thank you bobby,
we are changing to the fiber optic system because of our 2 phone lines and lumped in with the internet. Jeff is doing that today...we need to figure out how much mega bites per second...the lowest being 10mbps, we don't know what we have now for comparison. 10,30,50.100 different levels and costs of course. currently, we have high speed thru a&t&t DSL.
bizi

mymorgy 08-05-2011 02:05 PM

that company is the cheapest I know of after the initial purchase of the box.
Did Jeff look at it?
