The Gulf of Mexico
How is it doing down there this year? We talked quite a bit about it last Spring, and Summer.
Are the fishermen able to fish, and shrimp out there? How about the marshlands. Have they been cleaned out? Has BP paid back the people who lost there jobs? I haven't heard a thing about the oil spill in quite awhile. BF:hug::hug::hug: |
i was talking/wondering about that with my friends the other day.
it's no longer front page. no longer sensational. another example of how the news has nought to do with being informational. sometime back, i had read that certain seafood was considered "safe." i frankly still would not eat seafood from the gulf even if it were labeled safe. i do not trust that labeling, specifically, i mistrust the approval processes and those responsible. this is because i strongly suspect that the weighing factors are surely more political than sanitary in any such decision: keep people happier in the here and now, disregard the longer-term aspects of marine-life repopulation as well as cumulative health risks of ingesting perhaps only "mildly contaminated" food over time. it keeps the fishermen in their jobs, and the food service industries going, and the tourism industries going... with many closed eyes. heck i even think about the gulf when i eat shrimp here... sigh. :( ~ waves ~ |
Rightly so

We, on the other hand, make sure to exhaust its media potential first, make sure people have been properly panicked, then say :rolleyes:Oh, well, folks, they probably exaggerated... & move on to something which the media hopes can be squeezed for even more -making, revenue-producing yak yak. :D :vomit2: :vomit: :Dunno: |
they have said that the seafood is safe to eat.So we are eating it.

it is a personal choice and many ways to look at it... best thing to do is get a varied diet... perhaps eat a bit LESS seafood than you might have before (my impression from your postings before were that you guys ate seafood a lot... and indeed, why not... pre-BP... now, i understand the wanting to support local industries but, if not wishing to avoid consumption totally, i would certainly limit it. this might be a "moderate position" between... well "the spill is over and the shrimp is magically pristine clean" and "the spill will take decades to depollute and repopulate so avoid all local seafood at any cost until 3011" ((( hugs ))) ~ waves ~ who loves shrimp and seafood... sigh. |
until...
3011! lollollollollol! By then either (1) mankind will have vanished from Earth , or (2) Earth will have vanished along with mankind. |

There seemed to have been a black cloak thrown over the whole subject, but to my surprise,NBC 6:30 PM news broadcasted something today about the oil spill, and how it's affecting dolphins a year later. They didn't say much.
Since the oil spill I haven't eaten any fish,or shrimp at all. I don't trust the purity of any fish,or other sea creature that are sold in my area at this time for a lack of reports. The longer they keep the subject quiet, the longer I will not trust the sea food. This may be partially my condition coming to this conclusion. I don't know. Please don't be angry with me. steve you are always welcome to voice your opinion...don't ever worry about differing....you're good.

Oh, no. Dolphins are magnificent beings!

It's not only the oil. The dispersants are the problem.
Hi,
Neither BP nor the US gov has a test for the dispersants in the shrimp. The test for oil in shrimp was a smell test. I'm not joking. I hope they have come up with something better than a smell test. http://www.nwf.org/News-and-Magazine...amination.aspx “For instance, in Prince Edward Sound, you can’t see any oil there anymore, but the fisheries are still collapsed,” explained Cherrier. “You don’t necessarily have to see something in the system that contaminated it. It’s all dissolved, you can’t see it, but there’s still some nasty stuff there that’s prohibiting the fisheries from coming back,” she said. http://real-agenda.com/2011/07/10/th...ulf-of-mexico/ Perhaps the most surprising fact is that the spill continues to exist, despite government and main stream media reports that the worst is over. As recently taken pictures show, there are still large amounts of oil floating around the Gulf of Mexico. This is not oil that remains from the original explosion, but fresh oil. Airplanes continue to spray toxic chemicals on the Gulf, which continue to sicken people and animal life there. Recent spraying was done as early as March 15th, 2011, even though the EPA said that no more dispersants had been applied since July 23, 2010. According to the Gulf Rescue Alliance, aerial photos taken between March 19, 2011 and April 21, 2011, reveal new “massive amounts” of oil floating on Gulf’s waters. (2) The shrimp in the grocery stores is labeled "Domestic Shrimp" instead of "Gulf Shrimp." The name changes but the the shrimp is distressed / compromised.. M. |
That is so sad. It's also sad that we can't trust BP,fisheries, the government, and most everyone that is involved with the oil spill.
I remember the lies that BP told everyone on the news last year. When I was a kid,I didn't believe that grownups would do such a thing. As a adult,I still can hardly believe, and don't understand why people would do such evil things. My eye's have been opened, and I'm disgusted at the greed of the rich. I'm not perfect either. I make my share of mistakes. BF:hug::hug::hug: |
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/im...cons/icon5.gifI guess anyone can be greedy, not just rich folks, but it seems to stand out with them. Just like on the other end, when the poor are generous with the little they have.
How odd we are, we human beings! Why oh why would someone with more than they could ever use in a lifetime risk losing it all in order to get more? Why would another person, who has barely enough to get through the month, take in a frightened, young girl and her newborn child, abandoned by her family--believing that they will make it through somehow? Maybe the more you have the more you fear losing it; and the less you're used to having the greater your faith that god/friends/life will provide for the absolute "gotta-have" needs. Can't sleep. Just thinking.>C.G. |
the computer is a great distraction for sleeping. I am headed to bed took my night meds an hour ago so am sleepy.
I am now afraid to eat gulf shrimp....my head was in the sand.... bizi |
Dear Friend and Car Girl, You are both sensitive to the needs of others and to our environment. M |
Dear Bizi,
I was posting too much tonight. I apologize. First of all, the US gov is testing the seafood and says it is safe to eat. My guess is that it is mostly safe. A healthy body can process any toxins it comes across in our food (beef, salmon, . .. . ) As long as a person eats certain foods in moderation and rotates food in and out of their food plan, they are ok. I wish you could talk to your pdoc or tdoc about ways to take your Geodon with a meal. You would benefit from better absorption and feel less wound up in a few days. M |
Dear Mari,
i found what you posted informative and helpful. i did not find it excessive - to the contrary - i appreciated it. one of the specific things i had been wondering was indeed whether the spill was still ongoing and they were still spraying the sea with junk. i am for the moderation thing, if one is going to consume, as i said in an earlier post. and that is generally a healthy rule for all products in any event. thank you for posting. :Good-Post: ~ waves ~ |

If people where getting sick from the Gulf of Mexico seafood, the media would get right on it. They would get on the trail, and tell us every detail, theory, and everything else that they could think of. What I learned about BP oil last year,is that you can't trust a word,or facial expression,or anything that they say,or do. It's sad that a group of rich people like that have such hardened hearts, that they don't care about the rest of the worlds, life,or death. BF:hug::hug::hug: |
yeah, and then there's the whole just don't drive yourself nuts aspect.
i love tuna, and i mean from the can. i get it in oil (coz otherwise i'd put that much oil or mayo on it anyway). canned tuna is suspected to have high mercury content or at least, high enough one should prefer fresh to canned when possible. but canned is convenient and that's what i eat. i take the bad with the good in this case. some of us smoke and the junk they put in the papers is poison.... well but we do it anyway.... rotating foods helps avoid buildup of specific toxins to give the body a chance to clear them.... for instance veggies from different areas will have different mineral content and traces of different fertilizing agents... better than always having the same. but what ever you do, it comes down to personal decisions. you can take your head out of the sand, and choose with open eyes to part-take in gulf-shrimp, canned tuna, non-organic veggies.... etc. don't worry. we aren't here to beat you up for what you eat!!!:hug::hug: ~ waves ~ |
