Pain Distraction
We discussed in another thread what we do to distract our mind from pain. I thought I would take the lead and start a new thread on this subject.
So what do you all do to distract your minds from pain? Hobbies, music, TV, this forum lol? As you all know for me it is website design. The only problem is that I like the creative part. Once the site is done, im bored lol. So I start tweaking, and customizing. For instance, on the forumboards I created I just added a music player that you can control. This way if you want to hear some nice easy healing music, just click play. For those that dont, dont lol. Please understand that I am not trying to take away from here, there is no substitute for this place. This my family here, and I loves ya all! :grouphug: I am really interested in what everyone does, ya never know how much it might help someone to broaden their lives. I believe there is as many different things to do as there is people that post here. :) |
I have RSD in both my hands, wrists and arms. At first I thought I could do nothing but lay on the couch and be depressed watching TV. I have managed to Crochet a little. I was doing a little every day, even if it was only a few stitches. I really enjoy it and it helps with getting my wrists moving.
MOVE IT OR LOOSE IT! Anyways, that is my hobby. Right now, I have been pushing the family around trying to get a little spring cleaning done. This has taken over my time to crochet. Happy thoughts of pain free days... Oh yea! The boards and... I also stare at my fish tanks alot. I can work a little in them rearranging and such because of the tropical temperatures in the water. It is a slow moving thing when I do it but it is so pretty afterwards. My hubby keeps them maintained. He knows it helps reduce my stress and pain levels just to watch them. Anyways, that is my 2 cents, Thanks for posting the question! Rain :) :OuttaHere:  |
Great topic!
I buy and sell antiques. I love it. there is always soemthing to research and learn.........not to mention the money! I can basically shop for free ad have something for the extra copay or ss toy for the boys. I have never been able to work a real job and was used to living on ssi. I never thought I could make my own money. What a feeling. I also do photography. My husband bought me a rediculously amazing 35mm digital Nikon for Christmas. The only thing was I had to promise to always wear the neck strap! LOL I am famous for my shaky hands. Here is the embarassing one................. reality TV......... |
ebay?
Anyone here a ebay powerseller?
Just wonderin. I thought about doing the antiques, and selling on ebay. Was wonderin if that is worth the trouble? Any ideas? |
Hi Allen,
I did ebay for about 5 months. I actually made good money. I was making around 800. a month. Bill and I would go to sales and buy and I would put what I thought would sale on Ebay. I thought of doing it again but they have changed it so much. They actually charge to put items on and if they sale they charge again. If items don't sale you are paying them anyway. I was running up to 70 items at a time. Imagine if they didn't sale.
Also I would advise you just to open up a bank account just for ebay and only put so much money in at a time. When I did it a few years back they ripped off a lot of people. My son-in-law said they were made to pay back millions of dollars. Needless to say no one around here that got ripped off got back any. I had few that would buy and not pay so I delt with that but otherwise I did ok. I made sure what I sold was worth the money. I sold a lot of antique jewelry, pictures, paintings, hankies, men items such as bird callers, antique clothing, clothing that is in style. I was amazed at what sold. What I noticed today though it is so commercial and there are so many on there saleing that the competition is very stiff. Mommyjen, I swear you sound like me. I also deal in antiques and I also love photography. I took photography classes and can develop pictures. I too got a new digital camera for Christmas and photograpy paper and printer. I just haven't felt like doing anything. I am going to start taking my camera on my walks though. I am surrounded by mountains. I can see Pikes Peak from my kitchen window. It is beautiful around here. I also like making jewelry. I have everything to do it and every once in awhile I pull all of the makings out and me and the boys make jewelry. They like to make it for friends and girl friends. I'm glad Allen that you are feeling good enough to do some things also. I went to you website and checked it out. It's very nice. Ada |
I am a power seller! YOu don't have to see that much to be one. I sell about 20-30 items at a time and I do it by myself. You just have to make over 1000.00 a month to qualify. I think it is wonderful!! If you hve a good eye and do your research it is great. Even if you don't make power seller it is profitable.

I started doing sudoku puzzles- The more difficult ones can drive you nuts but it is a distraction= I also need to keep my mind active as my memory is horrible!!

Debbie,
I was wondering if the Boswellia helped some. Hugs, Roz |
I knew I liked you Ada! My goodness we do seem a lot alike. I have boys too. They are 2 and 4. They like to help do the shipping labels and packing tape. When I bring home my stuff they say " mommy can we look at you junk?" They love to look through it! Get your camera out and start snapping! I am going to make a coffee table book on blurb.com out of my best ones.

Mommyjen,
Your boys are at a perfect age to get interested in antiques and love them.
When my Grandson's were about the age of your two I took them around and showed them our antiques. Devin called them Grandma's teaks. He couldn't say antiques. They are 12 and 13 now. About 4 years ago Bill built them a table showcase each and they have a collection of knives, coins, lighters and anything else they wanted to keep. They have some old paper money in there that they bought at the flea market. They use to go with Bill when I wasn't able to. Their disney collection is about 5000 pieces. I have them in walmart plastic crates. When they got disney toys for birthdays and holidays after they got tired of playing with them they would bring them over to me. I have both of their Big Buzz Lightyears, I have Susan's first Mickey Mouse. It's over 35 years old, that's what got us started on Disney. My thought was to teach them to respect things instead of destroying them and it worked. I guess that's one of my hobbies, the boys, Allen. I have more fun with those 2. They each have a room here and they so enjoy being here. Dustin is collecting Tigers and cars and Devin is collecting Dragons and sports so that's how their rooms are done. Actually trying to keep up with them is a full time hobby. I think it's good that even though we all are dealing with this RSD we can find things that can distract us from it if only for awhile. Hi Mommyjen and Dreambeliever and Everyone! And THANKS, Allentgamer, for starting such and interesting thread!
Antiques have also been an interest for me ever since I can remember!! And also, historical documents. I inherited quite a few very old documents, and befor the RSD, I showed then around to afew knowledgeable dealers. I would NEVER sell them, but is has been interesting for me to do what limited research I can about the silver mining industry, and how it influenced the growth of towns, the Ghost towns, when the mines were no longer producing etc. I would LOVE to be able to figure out a way to do what Mommyjen and Dreambeliever have done with the Antique selling on e-bay. I am quite limited in the strength and dexterity with my hands (five pound lifting restriction). So, this is going to be a HUGE challenge! I must admit, our little library is VERY limited with reference books on antiques, so for now, I make SURE I watch "Antique Roadshow" every Sunday p.m. It is abosultely AMAZING what "treasures" people bring in for appraisals! And even MORE staggaring to see some of the VALUES!!! Makes me want to look at every single piece of furniture, nick-nacks, antique jewlery etc. in myhouse! Last summer, i experimented with drying flowers, and then arranging them on art paper in an "artistic" fashion. I found old frames that I had, and figured out how to get them behind glass. My hands are kindo of "shakey" from the tremors, and sometimes it is very frustrating with the dexterity issues, but EVENTUALLY I got them completed. They turned out REALLY well IMHO, so I have a lot MORE dried flowers waiting to be be arranged. I use little drops of glue to hold them in place on the paper (the glue-dots were too hard to use). Next time around, I might be a little better at it...! I am also looking forward to trying to dry my daffodils, tulips and crocus, IF SPRING would ever get here!!! (Its supposed to snow again next week:mad: ) Well, as "corny" as it may sound, i also like American Idol..I think it is a wonderful chance for young people, who otherwise would NEVER get that type of publicity and venue, to have a chance of REALLY having their dreams come true! Even IF they aren't the big winner, they will probably get some very nice opportunities to get into the "business"! I sure am looking forward to learnign MORE of everyone's endeavors! Thanks again, Allentgamer!!!!!!:D :D |
ebay again lol
I have been devouring stuff about ebay. I have found that it is more commercial then ever, but believe that might be a plus for the little guy with the rare stuff if you can find it.
One of my friends does muscle cars. We used to build cars together, and now I cant, but I let him park his for sale cars at my house since I live in the city now. Sometimes I get a little jealous, cause I would love to be out there timing that 460 big block by ear lol. He is doing about 1 car a month, and making some pretty good money. The last one he had here I would have done almost anything for lol. It was a 67 camero ss. It had a blown motor, but the interior was beautiful. The body was in pristine condition, and the motor was a 4 bolt main, and could be rebuilt. He bought it for 800 bucks  Then sold it for 7000!!!! Really giving this ebay stuff a serious thought. Ada that is sooo wonderful what your doin with those boys. I love kids! My boys all are into something because of me lol. One loves muscle cars :winky: There is one that loves to do computer work, and one doing the concerts, and marketing. They all collect game cards, and sports stuff, and have huge collections. Could fill an entire closet with the stuff. We estimated its worth at close to $30,000 each at the moment. I started saving the stuff when they were babies, and intended to make it their college fund, but they love it too much to get rid of lol. Lovin all the ideas! Keep em coming! :) |
Music
I need some help choosing some songs for the website. I installed 6 players, and put some songs on them. But my taste doesnt matter lol.
So give me some songs ya all like! :) |
Allentgamer! WOW!!!!! I checked out your website! That is AWESOME!! REALLY!!!!!!
Well, the first thing I thought of was when i saw all those flames was "Liar , Liar , Your House is on FIRE" (Referring to RSD and docs who think we are LIARS when describing our pain... NOT your website!!!).. Not sure our RSD is caused by "Hunka, Hunka Burning Love", either...But then, my taste in music might also be "questionable"...!!! My speakers on the PC aren't working, so I don't know what music you have!!!! Ohhhh--the Camaro you described!!!! I can understand WHY you wanted to get your hands on THAT one!!!! Well, ya never know!!!! When I was 16, my very first car was a '52 Cevy Power-Glide in MINT CONDITION. ORIGINAL PAINT, FLAWLESS interior/upholstery... NO body damage--not even a SCRATCH!! It was all my Dad could afford..I think he paid $300 for it. All my friends were driving fancy Mustangs, and all the "cool" cars, and it was pretty rough enduring all the teasing, and mean comments. After I moved out at age 19... several years later, (maybe 5? or so) my Dad told me he SOLD it. By then, I had come to really APPRECIATE that Power-glide, and actually, was thinking about going back home to get it...I had some some research, and learned a LOT about those old Chevy's....so, when my Das told me he sold it at a "profit" for $700, I almost FLIPPED!!!! Back then they were going for around $2,500!!!! I told my Dad he got RIPPED OFF!!!!!!!! Oh well!!!! Sure learned MY lesson!!!! n(So did my Dad!!!) I hope you get a Camaro in the future, Allent.....like I said--ya never know!!! Again--just INCREDIBLE web-site! You are EXTREMELY talented!!!! Most Sincerely, Brokenwings |
The banner in my sig will lead to the music, and also should I put something else in it besides what is in the banner already?
Did you go to my personal website, or the forum? Click on the banner for forum, and the link for website, sorry it is confusing lol. I am totally open to suggestions about anything, and critics are my best friend. That is how I get better. Man that camero was sweet! I have a video on my "my space" of the same friend that sold that car, of his own 68 camero burnin rubber up and down the street! :D I could just see my self slammin gears, and dustin all my friends in that car lol. Here is the link for my site, the video is halfway down the page called tinypic. Just click on it to play, and sit back and enjoy a 68 camero with a 454 big block! Only no posi traction lol, it burns rubber on only one back wheel! http://www.freewebs.com/crps/ Edited to say.... Changed the background on my website, that is the link, not the banner. The site used to have a flames background. Now it is black. What say you all? Black or flames? lol |
i crochet, quilt, read, do any kind of puzzle except crosswords, and garden slowly when the weather finally gets warmer. i can also do floral arrangements. i like to keep my hands busy busy when my pain is getting up there. i also feed the birds and identify them.

gardening
I love gardening, but now cant use the shovel. I still sit on the ground and plant flowers and stuff after I have my son loosen the soil.
One of the things I miss the most is my worm farm. I used to love harvesting out the castings, then immediatly putting them on the houseplants, and flowers out in the gardens. The castings were like putting steroids on the plants, but were 100% organic, and you couldnt burn the plants even when you put too much! I keep after my boys to take up the worm farm, it made soooo much money!! But they are instant gratification types. Cant wait for the harvest, and make the sales. Even though after one year I was making 11k a month from worm poops lol. It is too bad I cant keep with that, I would be sooo happy to be organic gardening again! |
created another
Well I just had to keep busy...........so I did it again lol.
Check out this one, and make sure you look in the albums. I put up some really cool screenshots! Amazing how sweet they make the graphics look in games now :winky: http://swg.freepowerboards.com/ Let me know what ya think, plus if any of you want to create your own website or forum, hit me up cause I work for peanuts! I prefer unsalted and roasted :D Seriously, I would be honored to help any or all of ya. :grouphug: |

Anything that occupies the mind seems to help. Can you believe even doing tax returns? Mike |
Hi Allen,
I love your websites. If I only had a mind that could do that, or if I only had a mind. LOL
I always wanted one of the first Mustangs. My brother had a 1950's black chevy convertable. I have a picture of me sitting in it. I love convertables from the olden days. We must all be around the same age to think so much alike. I was playing some of the Beach boys music for my Grandson last week. They did a lot of songs about the cars and surfin. My Son-in-law collects Bronco and other football memorbilia. Since Bill and I have been in the buying and selling business he got all of that on the condition that it goes to the boys if anything ever happens to him. He's their stepdad but he calls them his so he will see to it that they get them. I started their disney collection for the same reason you did. I told them if they ever wanted to sell them and go to college it would be ok. But like your kids, I bet it won't happen. Joan, I wish you lived near me. I have 3 quilts I want put together. I am going to make the boys each a twin quilt out of Bills clothes but I have two others from the 30's that need finishing. It's so rare to find someone that quilts anymore. Allen, as I said you can make money off of Ebay but do start a seperate bank account for it. I know one lady around here that they took 1000 out of her account. I know 4 others besides me that they took money from and the bank that I bank at said they are good at doing it. I did get part of mine back but not all. It is very commercial now. Like Mommyjen says you can do it but it depends on what shape you are in also. I had Bill packageing my things and taking them to the post office. I honestly don't know if I could do it all by myself now. I do buy and sell as I said around here and with the weather coming on I am going to get into it more. I decided what I am going to do about my place and we are getting the ball rolling. Travis is helping me get things done with it. I will be moving soon but I won't sell my home, I am going to rent it. This is going to be my summer hobby but the kids have to help me. I have 9 rooms of antiques to go through and decide which ones go with me and which ones go for sale and 3 sheds full of stuff. I honestly feel overwhelmed at times but my kids are doing all they can to help me. How about Little Duce Coop,409. Or how about this one. We'll have fun fun fun till daddy takes the Tbird away. Remember those old Tbirds? Ugly. LOL Have a good day, Ada |
Ada my favorite group is the beach boys! I used to lay in my room listening to "surfer girl" thinking about my wife, which was then a girlfriend lol.
I decided to devote a whole web page to muscle cars :) http://www.freewebs.com/crps/musclecars.htm I think im gonna add the flames back lol. So far it only has that video of my friends camero, but he told me is working on videos of his other 2 cars for me. One is a charger like the Dukes of Hazzard, and the other is a mustang mach 1. Cant wait to load those videos up! My son just a Torino with a 460 on ebay. I think he took a loss, but he was happy. I guess that is why I havent really done anything on ebay? Something is keeping me safe, cause I cant afford to lose even a nickle at the moment lol. |
Hubby!!!
Verrrry NICE website!!
Love the way you stay on topic! Wanted you to know that is some great work there. |
Dear Allen,
When I was teenager I used to have one of these. I know nothing about cars, the fellows in my family do though. http://www.carjunky.com/classiccars/...et-camaro.html Hugs, Roz |
