Labor Day Weekend, Whats your Plans!!!

Hi, we had such a great day.

Devin and his family, Danny and then My husband Dale, Derrick and I went
to the labor day Picnic for the Union at the Park in Lafayette.

It has a wonderful zoo that is free. All four of the grandkids, got to see
all the great animals. And even though Ethan wasn't there, and I know
it hurt Danny's feelings that Jessica, didn't make sure he was home this
morning so he could go. It was okay. This one, just doesn't understand
about family. She doesn't like things in crowds, and in stead of letting
him go with us. She had him stay the night with her mother, after
going to another tradition last night. The earl Park big weekend fair.

I really felt bad for my son, but he should have said something to her
mother, about getting him home in time. But he didn't. But we will
do something with him another day.

Then tonight Dale, Derrick and I went to Earl Park and the flea market.
Derrick rode some rides and played a game or two.

I got lots of sunburn. And it really hurts.

Ugh, I should know better.

Donna

Mari 09-03-2011 11:43 PM

Dear Donna,

Take care of the sunburn.

This weekend I am tired. I could use some sleep. Hubby and I spent the day with my parents . . will do the same tomorrow.

bizi 09-04-2011 12:21 AM

watching lost again...lol
cooking a big pot of gumbo for our friends tomorrow, cleaned the house a little.
chicken and sausage gumbo and rice
store bought potato salad
french bread
italian iced cake
strawberries
margaritas
sounds like fun if I don't get too stressed out cooking the gumbo.
I work on monday
have been watching the wunder blog posts...lee has been moving west when he was supposed to go east so texas is getting much needed rain!!!!!
I think we got a total of 4 inches of rain today. couple of clear hours while we were at the festival.
fried egg plant with shrimp and marinara sauce and Parmesan...it was alright.
had a roasted ear of corn..nothing like the fresh sweet corn when I was in IN.
enjoy the weekend!

Dear Bizi

sorry you have to work monday (((hug))) fwiw it isn't labor day here, but then again i don't have to work.... sigh... then again i won't get paid either... sigh.

what was that festival all about anyway? it sounds bizarre!

glad you had decent weather while you were there at least. and sorta kinda enjoyed the food.

i haven't had fresh corn in.............. decades. SERIOUSLY!!!:o

~ waves ~

bizi 09-04-2011 12:43 AM

I am going to bed now. the festival was ok...I was antsy due to the storm which relented while we were there fortunately ate some good food, not great so that was disappointing. walked around looking at crafts, no real arts there. the fleet of shrimp boats will be blessed tomorrow as they head out the season for shrimp. this is the oldest festival in the south...I think. and I don't know why the petroleum gets tagged along....
good nite

glad you guys had such a good time. it must be neat being part of a large family. i think it teaches you how to be with people effectively. i am from a small family, and over the years have had an increasingly hard time with large groups, even extended family. i think some is that my extended family locally feels like they come from another planet.:D

however, even when i am with people i am comfortable with individually, past 5 or 6 individuals i start feeling withdrawn and i detach psychologically or physically. i have always been more for doing things alone or in 2's and 3's. 4 tops. so i guess i can understand Ethan's mom.

i hope your sunburn gets better quick. don't suppose you keep a large aloe plant on hand? :o

~ waves ~

Dmom3005 09-04-2011 12:56 PM

Nope to the aloe plant.

But the local Dollar store had a nice size Aloe gel, for $2.00 so home it
came with me. Now to figure out what to eat for today.

Thinking about buying pizza. But probably wont.

Heeheeh

I am just relaxing today.

Dear Waves,

Here is a link to the Shrimp and Petroleum Festival:

http://shrimp-petrofest.org/
Quote:

The festival also emphasizes the unique way in which these two seemingly different industries work hand-in-hand culturally and environmentally in this area of the "Cajun Coast." The event is free and has grown to become one of the country's premiere festivals. There's plenty of fun for "kids" of all ages and lots to see, hear, do and eat! The festival is truly a feast for ALL senses and according to Time Magazine, "...one of the best, most unusual, the most down-home, the most moving and the most fun the Country has to offer..."

The Louisiana Shrimp & Petroleum Festival, the state's oldest chartered harvest festival, garnered the award of 2011 Festival of the Year as well as Best Cap Open Marketing in Division III.

Thanks Mari

i am grossly sorry i asked the question. i guess i had hoped for something... well - on the other side of the spectrum. perhaps something to do with helping the species recover after the disaster... :Noooo: :(

i can't help it. this "hand in hand" and "seemingly unrelated" bit just gives me the heebiejeebies. especially after the, i will politely call it "incident" in the gulf. :o stuff like that scares me. i saw the pic of a shrimp wrapped around an oil rig... boy, puts me off wanting to eat them for the rest of my life, from anywhere in the world. :( most of our society is all about money and getting ahead (for humans) and doesn't care about ecology, but this thing really made it seem blatant for me... like it flaunts it and nobody even sees it. :( or they do and think its... fun?????

i'm caught up in the same stupid gerbil wheel as everyone else anyway, hypnotically trundling along killing off species as we go, and going, uh-oh, oh well, it was yummy though, let's find a different one and do it again... trundle trundle...

i guess i better just stuff my eco-mind someplace else for now. it seems there is nothing i can do with it.

:(

had some friends over for some gumbo.
I think every one was full and satisfied....the gumbo was hot/spicy as I used hot sausage...may have to rethink that next time. plenty of left overs in the refrigerator and the freezer.
they just left....we had anice visit...am working tomorrow...which is fine.
I am feeling my margaritas tonight! hick up!

Good Job getting to work today!!! whew.

I am sure you needed the naps.

amazed you can nap outside.... here as soon as it cools down a bit and/or if it rains at all (which it has lately) the skeeters eat us alive!

in my next life, i wanna turn the tables on them.
i wanna be a jumpin verdant skeeter-eater:

I will stay home instead and watch this movie that no one else wants to watch...called Babies. documentary about 5 different ethnic babies from different countries. Sound cute!
I can just shower tonight...I desperately need one. I was going to do that at the gym.....I wish showering weren't such an ordeal...ugh!

Packing

I'm packing tonight, leave early for Chicago to say goodbye to 2 of my research students, try to redesign their programs so they can finish their master theses without me & the grant behind them.

Then Colorado & 2 more students, New Mexico end week with 5 students. Next Monday I start the new job of checking books in & out at the college library. I'll meet with the last 2 students here next week too.

Won't have Tiger with me (they specified that, said I spent too much of the funding taking my therapy cat with me but the only expense was the air fare & I paid that myself).

I'm fastening my seat belt. It's going to be a bumpy, bumpy week.:(:eek:

I am sorry that you are having to go thru all of this. sad for you...saying good byes are hard.

Dear CarGal,

You are still doing good work with your students.
I wish Tiger could go with you.

i imagine that any library work would be boring for you. From what I observe here, you seem to like to have a few pans in the fire with plans to make more fires. . . . so I think that soon you will find new ways to complicate your life (I mean "complicate" in a good way).

Dear CarGal

that is obnoxious that they could "rule" you couldnt' bring Tiger... how can they prove you were spending funds that were NOT program funds... ARGGGHHH

i am sorry you felt you had to acquiesce whatever the reason be... this will be a tough week. could have used Tiger's company.

((((hugs)))) and good luck... so many noble endeavors you have to your credit...

Mari, I'm hoping I can focus on the people & maybe on the material that passes thru my hands. Anything to keep my sanity. You're right, I need to have stuff happening.
Your saying complicate my life caused about a 3.5 earthquake of the mind. You're right, I don't need to get all my stimulation from work. I've gone back to the bird refuge, I could go back to the SPCA--stimulating but fairly low-stress.
Thanks for the empathy.

~ waves ~, more than anyone else on the forums (& maybe more than anyone else I know) you have a way of saying things in all seriousness that make me grin/laugh/hoot!--because I know "the rest of the story."
I admire you, so of course I love the fact that you credit me with "so many noble endeavors."
:Blush2: I credit my latent PR skills for your knowing about them!
But I'm afflicted with BADII. There are plenty of ignoble events to offset any noble ones. Like the time in Reno when a very young policeman--of an age to be my son--was trying to arrest me for drunk & disorderly & I, standing on tip-toe, poked him repeatedly in the chest, demanding to know, "DOES YOUR MOTHER KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING?":D:blush::eek:

well, see, you were serious, so was I, reading; but ASA I hit the word "noble," that sweet pink-cheeked boy's face leapt into my mind's eye.
What happened next?
I turned on the tears. He said, "oh, geeze, lady, don't cry." He stopped trying to handcuff me, called his Sgt, & said he needed backup because he couldn't arrest me, "She's like my ma, Sarge."
Then he started crying.
Dang near sobered me up. I put the handcuffs on myself & went & sat in the back of his squad car.
Didn't keep me from getting drunk again, of course.
See?
I laughed because I knew something you didn't know.
When you found out, what did you do?
Right.
"The rest of the story," as Paul Harvey used to say.

Dmom3005 09-06-2011 07:27 AM

Oops have to say, I forgot to hit Thanks for the rest of the
story on that last one.

our time was 9:30 she was but alas, I didn't want the Monday mornings
at 9:30 anymore. Because I still thought Derrick was going to work
two days a week and I needed some days to be gone in the week.

Oh well learn and live.

But I have to say I learned a lot for your talking, and I sure got a laugh.

Dear BlueCarGal,

I loved that this starts with "like the time in Reno. . . " The events could have happened anywhere, but Reno seems the best choice to 1) get arrested and 2) make a cop cry.
