Best friends?
In a conversation the other day, someone asked (paraphrased) "Who is your best friend?" Well, heavens to betsy, I don't think I have one!
This isn't a wah-wah thread, I do have friends. And if I really needed something, I can think of several people right off the top of my head who would sincerely be happy to help. But a "best friend"? Not really. I'm not sure if it's because I'm such a recluse these days, because I'm not the "best friend" type, because I have a different definition for that than I used to...who knows? Do you have a best friend? |

I have 2 best friends - my husband and my sister. I am lucky.

I have a best friend. We have been best friends since we were 9 yrs old:eek:. She just lives about 1/2 mile from me and we hardly ever see each other. We keep in touch daily thru e-mail and phone. I just can't keep up the best friend obligations anymore and she's a year older than I am:D.
Most of my friends? have disappeared from my life, since I can't participate, so the hell with 'em. huh. I have youuuuuu!!!! |

But one of my true friends doesn't let me just stay here and be by myself. When I'm up to it, she takes me out to do things we both enjoy. When I don't feel like going out, she comes to visit me. If we want to scrapbook but I don't feel I can cause my house is trashed and needs cleaned, she helps me clean (or does it herself) so that we can. |
:) Ok, B2Y... you triggered the song now playing in my head... What a Friend we have in Jesus! ;) On the earthly plane, I have to say my best friend is my husband. Coming in a close second to that is my mom, mother-in-law and sis-in-law, but they all live 1/2 a day drive away.
I have acquaintances in town, church and the neighborhood...but no one I really call a close friend. Heck, I see the door greeter at Sam's Club more than I do these other people!:p |
I have two good friends that live in here in my town. I can't always count on them, but I can count on them alot. My best friend is my little sister who lives in Austin, TX. We talk everyday. -- sometimes more than once a day. I really wish she did not live in Texas.

My DH is my best friend...I have a couple of girlfriends too, and I love them dearly. But I am more of a loaner...

Since my MS dx and my ever increasing "hermitis" (is that a word?) I don't have what I'd call best friends. I have friends that I consider good friends but rarely ever see and sometimes go a month or more with no contact. But we can pick back up right where we left off and it doesn't seem like so much time has passed.
Most of my friends are online or long distance. I have a few people here locally I consider friends but not "best friends". Since I'm not as mobile as I used to be folks just don't seem to want to take the time and effort to come and see me. Oh, well. |

Hmm, what Kitty just said, but added to that: the complication that some days...well, some days I don't exactly encourage company, you could say.

I have many friends, but I do have a best friend and she has been that for almost 50 years. She is a very special lady and we've been through a lot together since we met at school. I also have 2 other girl friends who have been close to me for around 35 years. I am blessed.

Exactly! I sit and wish for company but when it arrives I'm counting the minutes until they leave!! :o My Dad (bless his sweet heart) used to have this funny thing he'd say to friends of his when they'd leave......"come back when you can't stay so long!". :D Of course, he was kidding and his friends knew it but I always wondered what would happen if he were to say that to the wrong person! |
Sometimes you just don't have enough energy to deal with the people you like. Know what I mean?
My daughter was talking about her little circle of four friends who are all truly each other's best friend. I asked her, Are there subjects you just bring up? And she said no, they can talk about anything. Hmm. I'm thinking of my two closest friends, and there are conversational areas where we just don't go. |
Misery loves company
I used to have what I thought were several friends. But I find that they were temporary fixtures in my life. When I was unemployed, miserable and broke, they always wanted to go clubbing with me. When I found a job and became more financially stable, they didn't have time for me. The one true friend I have has been around since we were in the 9th grade. We hit a few rough patches because we are more different than alike, but we click and have similiar goals. When she found out I had ms, she connected me with one of our classmates who was dx with ms. People can't believe we are still friends. Even though I live a few states west of her, I talk to her almost as much as I talk to my dog.:)

I've got plenty of "fair weather friends" but only a couple of "any/all weather friends".
