TMJ roll call
"Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJD or TMD), or TMJ syndrome, is an umbrella term covering acute or chronic inflammation of the temporomandibular joint, which connects the mandible to the skull. The disorder and resultant dysfunction can result in significant pain and impairment."
Symptoms at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temporo...joint_disorder Anyone have this? Suspect you have it? Thoughts on its relation to TOS? Both my vascular MD and my chiro think that some of my symptoms are not TOS and therefore I have TOS + something else. When I went searching for my other symptoms, TMJ kept coming up. |
whiplash can cause this and i definitely gave myself whiplash which made it 1000000000000000000000x worse bc your scm is jammed
even right now i feel this weird nervy sensation in my jaw and ear, its not muscle, but it feels off |
i think overactivation of the scm in any situation (tos etc) will cause tmj but that's just mho
|
I have many symptoms of TMJ, but in most people's opinion it is caused by TOS, not the other way around. Pulling of the neck and throat muscles have thrown my jaw out of whack. It's even effecting my bite now and the dentist is noticing wear and tear on some teeth that have not been there before.
I do a lot of manual internal releases in my mouth and jaw which helps the pain at times. There are also Feldenkrais TMJ audios that have been beneficial for me. It's all part of the package :(. |

So what is the true source of the neck spasms for us then? Why do we have crazy scalenes and SCMs? |

I hope my acupuncture session on Saturday is worthwhile because it ain't cheap! Best wishes guys xx:grouphug: |
i dont think its possible to have tos (scalene kind not just pec minor or bc of cervical rib) without forward head posture.
fhd=increased likelyhood of tmj also my experience is i never experienced a neck spasm in my life until i irritated my bp (despite giving myself whiplash and having no cervical curve) which i find interesting. so it goes both ways, muscle to nerve irritation nerve to muscle irritation |
HI
Le for tosers we all have a compensaable disease called terstosis or something like that as our meds make our mouth drive and our teeth hurt and fall out. Use special tooth paste, wash and make sure your primary doctor, if you are on work comp to help you

my hands were numb all the time and i couldn't figure out why and i didnt have health insurance at the time (i didn't have ANY NECK PAIN THEN)
i got a book that had a bp nerve glide in it. i did it on both sides like a *******, then 3 hours later my neck caught on fire and i was bedridden. |

I think I stretched my bp out on my extra droopy shoulder side with a 45 min daily walk where I would swing my arms with vigor. This created the usual arm symptoms and also further compressed my shoulder girdle over time. June/July of this year. There were other contributing factors as well like forward head, computer work, etc. |
exactly a year ago
for the first month i actually couldnt sit down at all my spine would catch on fire. but that doesn't explain why my hands were numb BEFORE all of this, that is the great mystery. but they were just numb and tingling, some weird swelling were my only sx. yeah arm swinging flares me up |
i wish i could go all the way back to my first post, i bet it read somethin like
