Need some advice on Gabapentin, or stronger Fibromyalig meds.
Hi, I've been asked if I need to change meds for fibromyagia.
I told him no because of the price. I know I can't afford lyricia. And I can't even afford to take more of the gabapentin. I really believe even just one or more of the pills would work. But I did get permission to change to twice a day, to see if this helps me remember and make sure I get the whole 900 dosage. Thank goodness. I am not sure what to think. Any ideas, I have restarted my iron pills just this weekend, it dawned on me they were missing. I still take magnesium and cinnamin. But that is about all I can afford, or remember to buy. Guaifenesin?
Guaifenesin has been tried but i am not sure of proven effectiveness and it is not free of caveats. at i glance i saw for instance you can't have salicylates in your system.
i don't know anything about the dosages involved, nor whether there are risks for special populations (diabetics, hypertensives etc) not sure of cost. here are some links for further reading... Thanks I will look into the Vit D.
I think there is some in the kitchen My husband has a collection of vitamins. Donna:grouphug: |
Donna.
make sure the Vit D is vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol). this is readily available OTC in the US, even in high doses capsules. when you first start using it, you will have to request regular testing 3-6 months a year (depending on the dosage you start on). If it is obtained by prescription, only vit D2 is prescribed which is not well utilized by our bodies. (i.e., useless). goodness knows why they are still prescribing that kind there. but anyway. a caution: be very careful if you also supplement with calcium (until you establish the correct vit D dose to take, you should probably avoid it but talk to your doctor.) this is because vit D increases calcium absorption, and there is a risk of hypercalcemia. this typically happens only with very high levels of vitamin D, but if you take calcium as a supplement also, then all bets are off. i hope you find what you need to help ease your pain. i am sorry you suffer from fibro and that you are having a bad flare :( ~ waves ~ |
Thanks Waves
I wondered because I do take calcium sometimes it has Vit. D in it. I have two kinds, I have to take a very high amount per doctor. And I can't handle the pill the Vit D is in more than one pill a day. So the doc said to take the rest in just plain calcuim. So guess I get enough that way. Donna:grouphug: |
Gabapentin
Okay I am getting my Gabapentin,
1 in the morning and 2 at night. This is working great. Now I'm working on trying to get my vitamins straightened out. I started my magnesium again. And my iron, I also need to take a calcuim or multi vitimin. I'm working on which or what. I believe its going to have to be a calcuim, because my body reacts to the multi-vitimans. My massages are doing lots of good, I need to figure out a way to go to twice a week. IF at all possible one hour, instead of two hours once a week. THis would probably help me. So I'm going to work on this in December. Hopefully my schedule will slow down. I have a appt with my primary also, so I'm going to see about replacing my cymbalta, unless it looks like my insurance is going to be re-instated soon. It could be very close. My husband is getting close to having 400 hours in now. And still hopefully will have a job. We wait to find out.:grouphug: Donna |
good luck

Not adjusting my massage schedule yet. Just no way.
But it will just wait. No news on insurance either. Crossing fingers, that Devin will know very soon next week that he has a job. He interviewed at the same place Danny works today. Now is going for drug test and the other one on Monday. Yippee, so close. Donna:grouphug: |
