Doc Appt. Fiasco..

Got all dressed up and ready to go at 11:00am for my appt at 11:30. DD got here right on time and I drove my indoor scooter out to the garage. Tried to transfer into mini van and could not do it.. We tried for a long time and I just couldn't lift my legs up into the van. Then I was weakened and slid to the garage floor in my brand new jeans.

DD couldn't get me up so called 911 and they picked me up and set me in my scooter...went inside and had a hard time transfering to sofa. Finally made it and I'm still here, sitting on one of pals potty pads. It seems that I hurt my good leg, in the fall and can get up.

I'm hoping my not so good leg will heal with rest and I'll be able to get up later:confused:. I guess, since I cannot go to the Docs anymore and he doesn't make house calls, I'll have to have a visiting nurse/HHC come to my house to check on me? Do any of you have HHC and if so how does it work?

Cry cry cry cry cry cry cry....soooooo down!! Help me get up please. Please pray for me :grouphug:

Kitty 11-16-2011 03:45 PM

 Awww, Sally.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. If you need a shoulder or an ear I'm here for ya. I wish I had a magic solution to this........I'll be in the same place one day I do believe. So glad DD was there with you.

's for you.

mochagirl13 11-16-2011 04:22 PM

So sorry to hear about your fiasco. Thank goodness you were not alone. But you seem to be in good spirits. I'll say an extra prayer for you.:grouphug:

Debbie D 11-16-2011 04:32 PM

Aw, sweet Sally, ((()))

Does Medicare pay for a Medvan? They are so great for people who have difficulty transfering...

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this...I'm going to send out a special prayer for you...

Blessings2You 11-16-2011 05:54 PM

Oh Sally, I just barely got online and saw this, but you have my prayers (and tears) now!

marion06095 11-16-2011 07:13 PM

Sally, try not to be blue. There are better days ahead. You are in my prayers tonight, my dear.

(((( Sally ))))

KajunButterfly 11-16-2011 08:48 PM

Awww dear Sally..lots of prayers and (((((((hugs))))))).

nemsmom 11-16-2011 09:04 PM

 Sally, I'm so sorry! I hope you find something to help you soon!

ewizabeth 11-16-2011 11:54 PM

Sorry about your experience today little Sally!  Also glad your daughter was there! From what I hear visiting nurses can be very helpful when it is hard to get out of the house.

Could you have your hunks come over and help you to transfer on doctor appointment days? :hug:Do you have a nearby hunk that could do small tasks like this from time to time?

missj 11-17-2011 01:09 AM

prayers and hugs..........I hope tomorrow is a better day.....

Sending warm hugs Sally.

Didn't sleep very well last night. Usually I'm sound asleep at this time of morning. This not being able to get up to go potty is not funny. Has anyone used the poise super absorbant pads? And do you wear regular underpants with them or special ones? this piddling on a doggy pad is not getting it.

Hellllllp!!!:grouphug:

Jodylee 11-17-2011 07:12 AM

Awww, Sally, I'm so sorry! Is there any way you can stay with dd until your leg heals up or have someone stay with you? I wish I could be there to help! I think with any of the pad type incontinence things you wear regular underwear :hug:

SallyC 11-17-2011 07:41 AM

Thanks Jody, DD will stop on the way to work to get me started and on the way home to finish me off :D. She's bringing some heavy duty poise pads and a large pr of underpants..:o

Are we having fun yet? NO!!!

Sally, you can wear your own underwear, but the larger pad would make them very buly and leakage could end up staining what you have,

Here in Oz you can get stretch panties to go over the pads. The panties are machine washable but if they get too soiled, you simply toss them out. Not sure how many you get in a pack, about 10 I guess.

Here's a picture of this particular type, but there are lots more available you could look at.

Have you contacted your doc to see if you're eligible for some kind of home health care?

Yes, his nurse is going to talk with him and they will call me. My Doc isn't in today:)

LindaTN 11-17-2011 10:41 AM

I don't know where you live, but I would call Senior Citizens in your area and see if there is medical transportation there available , In our area we are fortunate to have ETHRA ( East Tennessee Human Resourse Agency that will arrange transportation plus since my hubby is bedfast, he qualifies for ambulance transport to medical apts. It would be a start for sure, even some churches offer transport volenteers. Hope this helps. Good luck , getting to places can be hugh hassle.

Debbie D 11-17-2011 12:38 PM

Can your DD get you a bedside commode? Would you be able to hop over to it? I hate the fact that you're having this trouble, and I don't think you should be alone...I hope your doc or DD can find some help for you, sweetie.

And there are pants that you can buy to put a pad in that are somewhat waterproof...but you can always have DD get some Depends until you're up and about. That would be more comfortable than pads...

Take care, and know that our prayers are with you for a speedy healing of your leg...:grouphug:

Aarcyn 11-17-2011 01:04 PM

hey Sally. When I broke my toes and had to wear a cumbersome cast, trying to make the nightly bathroom break was difficult. So this is what I did...

On the carpet next to my bedside I placed a bathmat, the type with a rubber nonslip bottom. My thought was that if there was any leakage, it was on a washable item that I could wash.

My walker was also positioned in a key spot at my bedside so that when I stood up, I used it for balance.

I bought paper Depends. Poise pads can shift and I wanted a more secure item. I stood up and peed into the Depends. It worked better than I expected, no leaks really.

On my nightstand I had a scissors to cut it off on the sides so that the wet diaper did not have to be pulled down my legs and get any urine on them as I had finished.

I also had a small wastebasket with a plastic bag inside and dropped my used diaper into it.

I used moist towelettes to clean myself properly and those went into the wastebasket.

A small hand towel was also within reach and I would put it on the bed so that I could sit down and not have my wet posterior on my clean bed. Another diaper was also handy and I would put it on.

Peeing into a diaper while standing was a mental thing but it all worked with everything set up and ready for me to do my business, be clean and get back into bed.

I hope I was clear in what I did. I felt clean. I hope this helps.

Sally, what happened was a bad thing but it is not about the bad thing, it is about solving the problem and moving forward.

ginnie 11-17-2011 04:22 PM

Hi sally

I am so sorry you had trouble with your legs. Home health care is a wonderfull arrangement. They give you a complete evaluation every time they come over. If getting to the doctor is that difficult, don't hesitate for the home visits. It also can take stress off of you, regarding getting to and from those appts. I hope your leg heals, and that your strength comes back. Rest alot, and eat healty foods. I am thinking about you. ginnie

doydie 11-18-2011 12:08 AM

Here in town along with our regular city bus system we have one of the buses that is handicap. It has the hydraulic ramp that comes down and you drive your scooter onto the city bus. You have to work on their schedule and that sometimes can be a problem.

TwoKidsTwoCats 11-18-2011 10:13 PM

I missed this yesterday! Hugs and prayers for ya Sally:hug: I seriously do not have a clue what I would do in your situation. I need to plan and prepare.

Blessings2You 11-19-2011 06:33 AM

Hey, Sally, how are you doing???

ginnie 11-19-2011 12:38 PM

Hi Sally

I am so sorry you are not sleeping well. I have potty trouble too. I get up so many times, that I don't sleep soundly. I also have to wear protection sometimes, and I hate that worst of all. Wish it was better for you. I do believe you will heal your leg from that fall. As long as nothing was broken, with time you will get stronger. I am thinking of you, and hoping things will get easier for you. ginnie

Kitty 11-19-2011 01:17 PM

Where are you, Sally? Hope you're feeling better.

Lynn 11-20-2011 07:29 AM

So sorry Sally  wish I could come up with some witty comment to make you feel bettr - but I can't - this just sucks for you.

Love

Lyn

Please try to keep the faith, I know it is very hard, why "O" why have they not discovered a cure for this dreadful disease.

I found someone on another board w an old phone number and here is what she (Cheri) found out:

She is in the hospital. Nothing broken but she had to call 911 on Friday because she still could not move from the couch and couldn't get a hold of her daughter. Hopes to be home later this week. She has asked that you put the word out to the NT forum.

Kitty 11-21-2011 11:27 AM

Thank you for letting us know. I'm so sorry she ended up in the hospital but maybe she can get some much needed rest there and get better faster.

Sally, if you're reading this we love you!:hug:

Re: where is sally?

[I don't have Sallys' number or I would call her. Has anyone heard from her since she got home health care? The last post I have was from last week, when she fell and injured her leg. I am worried about her. ginnie

Aarcyn 11-21-2011 01:56 PM

@Sally. Hunky doctors?:D Decent hospital food? Welcome home when you get this message. Someone needed to bring your computer to the hospital!

I know that the # is to her cell phone if that helps. I am so happy that nothing is broken.

Yeah, what will she do w/o the forum? She'll have to watch TV, oh my!

Sorry, I did not see this thread when I posted the update here about the hospital. I did ask Sally if it was OK to give her # to anyone and she preferred I not so I will try and post an update in a day or so. At least being in the hospital for at least 72 hours, she qualifies for skilled nursing care at home for up to 9 weeks or a stint in a skilled rehab facility.

Judy2 11-21-2011 03:50 PM

I just saw this awful news Sally, and am sooo sorry. My heart goes out to you as I know just how you must feel having been in the same position myself.:( How is your leg feeling now? Thank the Lord nothing was broken and your DD was there at the time. It sure sucks living alone with this monstrosity, doesn't it?

Is Pal at your daughter's? He probably misses his mommy.;) BTW, at night I use heavy duty Depends and a heavy duty Poise pad. For some reason, night-time brings on a serious case of pee-itis!!! Two of Tasha's piddle pads and another fabric, waterproof pad protect my recliner where I sleep since I don't know when "it's" coming and I can't get up quickly anyway. Soon as I stand up, it's over. :o This sure isn't how we planned on spending our "golden years", is it?!

I'm praying for you..........

Debbie D 11-21-2011 05:36 PM

I got the same message...I'm glad at least that we know she's okay...

Prayers to you, Sal Pal...wish I could be there to play cards with you...:grouphug::grouphug:

Re: thank you for telling us

I will pray Sally gets out of the hospital soon. I was very worried and I am glad you found out about her. I will keep her in my prayers and hope she can come home soon. I miss her too. I was worried after she had trouble getting up and was hurt. Good thoughts will be going her way all week long. ginnie
