First EEG today.
I'm having my first EEG test done in a few hours. Wish me luck.
I'll let you all know how it went. |
Praying for the best possible results for you!
Blessings... Amy |
According to the technician, she says she isn't a doctor or anything but she seen some things that were abnormal. What could this mean? What all does an EEG detect? :(
|
First, the tech should have never said that. She was way out of line. Her only comments should have been about the quality of the waveforms. By this I mean, the waveforms were not cluttered up with errant abstract data. Errant abstract data can be caused by blinking, swallowing, moving, etc.
You need to wait for your doctor or a neurologist to read the EEG results. There are many abnormal things that can show up on an EEG that are considered inconclusive. So, wait and see. Don't obsess about her ill-informed comments. |
This neurologist that I'm seeing (or hardly ever seeing since he's only available once a month) said I won't be able to follow up on the results until the 25th! I was shocked...so shocked that I scheduled an appointment with a new neurologist on Tuesday. I called Dr. Dixit's office (my current neurologist) and told them to cancel that appointment and fax my results over to the new neurologist because I don't plan on seeing Dr. Dixit again. He was a quack anyways. The one time that I seen him, he rushed me in and out of his office in a flash. He gave no advice on how to deal with my symptoms, told me I was depressed and prescribed me some Prozac. He even told me I needed to get a job and start doing more things to get my mind off the symptoms.
Good riddance. |
Sounds like Dr Dixit is Jewish. His office scheduled your appointment for the 25th, Christmas Day??? And on a Sunday no less.
Did you inquire to see if the new neurologist has much experience with concussions? |
According to the receptionist I spoke with, he's dealt with patients that experienced post-concussion syndrome. That was the first question I asked when they picked up the phone. Then again, that's what the receptionist at Dr. Dixit's office said too. I'm crossing my fingers. I've been really stressed out and full of anxiety due to the lack of help I've been getting and the frequent trips to the ER due to this neurologist's lack of availability.
|
But,,,, Has he dealt with Post Concussion Syndrome successfully and to the patient's satisfaction?
We need to compile a list of doctors who have provided good support for their PCS patients. Maybe when pigs fly. |
So I got a call from the office of Dr. Dixit. She's suggesting that I at least follow-up with their nurse practitioner on Monday to talk about the EEG and what they plan to do with me as far as treatment, before I make the decision to see the new neurologist. So I'm going to see how it goes on Monday, and if I'm still dissatisfied with the way they handle my condition I'll keep my appointment with the new neurologist on Tuesday.
Sounds like they don't want to lose me as a customer lol. Well, at least I get the results of my EEG sooner and find out if there is anything seriously wrong with me. |
Funny how they magically have time all of the sudden, huh? Good luck!!!
|
Sounds like Dr Dixit is a fees first, patient second type of doctor. The nurse practitioner likely would have given you more time from the beginning.
btw, You will not get the results of your EEG. The best you will get is a nurse's interpretation of the EEG wave form. Reading an EEG is an art, not a science. I just looked up Dr Dixit and his RNP. I am not impressed with his CV. Dr Dixit has bounced from job to job over the last 16 years. Dr Dixit has never been published. He was a doc for hire up until he opened his private practice in 2008. His expertise if he has any expertise, is in epilepsy, stroke and Parkinson. At least these are his areas of focus. Concussion management is not mentioned. He continues to work for a clinical research clinic, probably to help pay the bills. Clinical research does not imply research expertise. It often is just a job documenting symptoms and other medical criteria. His RNP did critical care for most of her career. Only sought neurology specific area the past two years. Neither has the length of experience to have followed a patient through prolonged Post Concussion Syndrome. I would not hold my breath for a worthwhile appointment on Monday. My best to you. |
This whole situation is driving me even more crazy than I already am from all this. I wish there was some magical directory where you can search for a neurologist that has experience and success with post-concussion syndrome. I have a feeling I'm going to exhaust my Victims of Crime benefits bouncing from incompetent neurologist to the next. I've tried googling post-concussion syndrome, neurologist and Las Vegas together and I don't come back with what I'm looking for.
As far as the EEG results go, they did say Dr. Dixit would be in the office that day while I'm being seen by the RNP. So if she doesn't give me results or I'm not comfortable with her I'm going to demand to speak with Dr. Dixit himself. |
Sorry you're going thru all this stuff! I completely understand the frustration with neurologist issue. I finally convinced my husband at the end of August we HAD to find someone else to work with cuz our neuro was worthless (pat on the head, up the meds and see ya next time was his advice).
So then, who to see? I decided to seek out other TBI survivors and/or their caregivers from my area and see who they recommend .... or, almost MORE importantly who they DON'T recommend. My plan worked great! I attended one brain injury support group meeting and everyone unanimously suggested the same doctor. I found the support group thru the Brain Injury Association of America WWW.BIAUSA.ORG I believe the branch for you in Vegas is WWW.BIANV.ORG Check them out. Maybe a phone call would be sufficient or you can attend one of their meetings (word of caution - can be VERY VERY overwhelming attending a meeting. LOTS of excitement, babbling and noise at the one I went to. You may want to send a friend or family member to get the recommendation for you). By the way, the doctor that was recommended to us was a doctor of physical medicine and rehabilitation (physiatrist) - NOT a neurologist. I kinda felt there was not a whole lot a neuro would do for us other than evaluations. Maybe some are focused on rehabilitation, but ours was not. We've been very happy with this doctor and she has had realistic input and great suggestions for us. Hope that helps you in some way! Peace, grace & healing to you.... Amy |
