Suggestion for Newbies and those with persistent symptoms

As people post their recent issues, readers often forget the context of that poster's condition.

It would be very helpful if people would create a signature with a short list of the most problematic symptoms.

For example, xanadu (Pete) could list his need to work with his eyes closed due to extreme sensitivity to light.

One can change their signature in the User CP link at the upper left.

When that symptom is no longer the primary issue, the signature can be changed.

Good idea.

Please tell me how to post a "signature" I am computer illiterate-even before the accident.

There is a bar towards the top of the screen. The first thing listed on the bar is "User CP". Click that and then look on the left hand side. There is a list of things...about halfway down there is an option to "Edit Signature". Click that and a window will pop-up with a text box for you to enter your signature. If you want an example of what to put for your signature, look at either mine or Mark's.

This will automatically be placed at the bottom of each of your messages.

If you need further instructions, PM me.

Great idea...very helpful!!!

How did I do???

katie71083 01-24-2012 11:07 PM

Great idea. But.... aaaah!... so difficult!

I can relate to symptoms when I hear them, but I still have a difficult time generating a list.

This could be a good exercise for me...

SpaceCadet 01-24-2012 11:20 PM

Katie,

I have the same problem. When people ask me how I feel I usually just say "foggy", "I don't know" or "It's hard to explain". I have to bring a list of current symptoms with me when I go see my neurologist (or any doctor).

You can do what I did...look at a website that lists the symptoms of post-concussion syndrome and also look at other people's signatures. Write down the symptoms you see on there that you have.

Eowyn 01-24-2012 11:26 PM

nwsmith,

What I want to know is, how did you get the cool font in your sig? :)

SpaceCadet 01-24-2012 11:42 PM

Eowyn,

Go to the "Edit Signature" screen and look on top of the text box. There's a bunch of different buttons and gadgets up there...one of them is a drop down box that says "Fonts". Just highlight whatever part of your signature you want to change the font of and choose a font. It will add the code for you.

You can do that with any of the gadgets up there...you can toy with it for awhile, changing things around and using the "Preview Signature" button at the bottom until you get it right.

Fantastic idea Mark! Wonder if it would be possible to "Pin" something like this to the top of the board for New Visitors, etc?? Just a thought!

Very new to posting in this format - I had a slip and fall accident resulting in a concussion on 11/4/2011. Persistent headaches, blurry vision, brain fog ever since. Post Concussion Syndrome with PTSD diagnosed. Feels like headaches will never end. Dr. has me on enough medications, anti inflammatory, pain, depression, headaches but little seems to work. Most is some relief - taking the edge off the pain to make it somewhat tolerable. In the state of mind where I really don't know what to do next...

Mark in Idaho 01-27-2012 12:35 AM

EJ,

Welcome to NeuroTalk. Your head aches and other symptoms sound normal for PCS.

What is the PTSD diagnosis about?

What drugs does your doctor have you on?

PCS can be difficult but with a wild mix of drugs, it can be difficult to tell the PCS symptoms from the drug side-effects.

Are you doing anything with diet and nutrition to help your brain?

Also, are you avoiding caffeine, alcohol and MSG?

What kind of doctor are you seeing?

My best to you.

Good Idea...

Ok, here's mine (I hope):

worried_mom 01-30-2012 11:27 AM

I'm not the one with the concussion (but I'm certain from the last 4 months the symptoms are contagious LOL) BUT I cannot find the "signature" section. anyone point me in the right direction?

Hope I did not offend anyone with my initial comment, none meant! I just haven't had a full night's sleep or needed answers myself and am mentally exhausted.

mrsD 01-30-2012 11:34 AM

New members cannot make signatures until they pass a brief
approval time. Just keep posting some and you will be eligible.

The signature function is in your CP (profile) at the left of the top bar of each page.

worried_mom,

I posted detailed instructions on the first page of this thread on how to setup your signature. If you have any trouble figuring it out once your no longer a "New Member", just refer to my post.

Mark in Idaho 03-05-2012 08:08 PM

Time to top post this again.

SpaceCadet 01-09-2013 12:27 PM

We have a lot of new members, so I thought I would bump this to the top.

Mokey 01-09-2013 09:46 PM

I think it is a great idea, and I am overwhelmed by the terrible, sometimes so 'trivial' or random things that have happened to people and the terrible suffering as a result. I was unable to write for over a year, but read a lot of these posts, which were so helpful. I can write now but I think there is an emotional trauma in putting it all down on paper! I will do that, though, as soon as I can!

SpaceCadet 02-11-2013 06:04 PM

Bump to the top for new members.

MOMMYMBD 02-12-2013 03:56 PM

whew!

I thought I was going to have to pull the brain damage card and ask the stupid question too... thanks for beatin gme to it! ;):D:p

Don't worry! It has taken me 17 months to A) figure out how to do it; and B) be emotionally able to summarize my brain injury experience in a few words (or so)!

You guys are going to be proud. I figured out how to do the signature.

MOMMYMBD 02-14-2013 12:05 PM

I had to borrow some descriptions, and I know I left some symptoms out... there shouldn't be THAT many!!!
