The switch to Google Chrome

In the last two day's,I switched to Google Chrome. When I clicked on the internet with e,my browser became very slow. The problem is now I don't see my small picture on my posts. All that I see is a large square with 3 colors in the center of the box.

Everybody see's my picture, but I don't. Is there a way to fix this? I'm working with about a 9 year old dell computer. Brokenfriend:)

Looks normal to me in your post here, you might need to uninstall/reinstall chrome, something might have not installed properly.
If all operating system updates (Windows or ?) are up to date - even an older computer should be able to run chrome.

Do you have windows XP with Service Pack 3 or something else?

Or try Firefox -just to see if it works for you better.

I had a search in google for images not showing up for chrome users. There were literally dozens and dozens but I couldn't actually find a real fix. Something to do with the speed of chrome and something to do with something called adblock. It was all pretty confusing actually.

I'm curious though what happens if you load a page here and then hit "refresh"? Does that make any difference?

Can you see everyone else's avatars and images?

If not just check something... right click mouse on the box where your avatar should be, and then go down to the bottom of the list where it says "View Image Info". Go to "Permissions" and make sure "Load Images" is clicked "Allow.

Only other thing I can think of off the top of my head is to clear cookies and empty cache and see if that makes any difference

OK Thanks. I see everybody's avatar,except for mine. I'll go to permissions,load images,and click allow. Thanks. BF:):hug::grouphug:

BF, it should be actually set on default to load images, but it was just one thing to rule out. I fiddled with mine but it didn't just remove my image, it removed all the avatars from everyone, so if you can see our avatars but not your own, it means it's not the problem.

I also wondered if you have your avatar saved to your computer and if you've tried removing it totally here at NeuroTalk and re-adding it in your User CP/Control Panel where it says Edit Avatar.

I wonder if there are any other users who use chrome. Wondering if they've ever encountered the same thing.

Later on I'll have another search in google to see if there is something I missed that could be the problem.

Brokenfriend 01-31-2012 04:12 AM

Thank you for the information.

I came across the avatars area, and couldn't tell exactly what it was saying to do. Because of the way it was worded,I couldn't tell exactly what it was saying, and I didn't want to loose picture one, that I came across in the members pictures.

I have not been taught how to use a computer to that degree, and I don't want to loose data. I can see my picture two,on Google chrome at my home area. That is the picture with my black shirt on. The other picture, one, which I've had on here for a couple of years,I cannot see, except on the members pictures.

I guess that when I post from now on I'll see the large box, with three colors in the middle.

I thank you all for the help that I received here. BF:):grouphug:

I'm sure we'll get something sorted, BF.

Tell me if you can see either of these images?

I copied the original size to where I can edit and then made one a larger size.

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t32/KBurra/BF.jpg
This is your original one. It is only 60 x 45 pixels

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t32/KBurra/BF-1.jpg
This one I enlarged and it is 82 x 62 pixels

EDITED to add: How bizarre.

Now someone must have helped you make your avatar larger because it is now much larger than your original. It is now 85px × 64px.

Can you see your avatar yet? lol

Jomar 01-31-2012 01:21 PM

It really should work without having to change anything, I think you need to uninstall it , reboot the computer and then do a fresh install of Chrome.

I'm thinking something got scrambled or could even be a messed up download of the Chrome files - if the new install does the same thing, then re download a fresh copy of Chrome to install.
Or do that first to save time..

If you have room on your hard drive, go ahead and install the firefox too. linked in my other post.

I have IE, Firefox & Comodo Dragon ( very similar to chrome) all installed and my bookmarks are imported on all of them, just in case one gets messed up...I can use one of the others..

If you don't have a cleaner installed - this is a good and safe one - has a one click clean up button so you don't have to worry about accidentally removing something important.
And it's free - it will ask if you want to buy or upgrade , but just stay with the free version, it works just fine.
And only use the one click maintenance button unless you understand what the other sections do.

Hey Lara. Yes. I see both of the pictures. That is the one that I want where I post on forums. The first one,the smaller one is clear, and the bigger one is a little blurred.

Thank you for the computer work that you have done. BF:hug::hug::hug:

mrsD 01-31-2012 05:41 PM

Blurring happens when the pixels are stretched from certain sizes.

It depends alot on the pixel content of the orig. photo.

Sometimes it cannot be avoided. Some graphics programs give options for this and others do not.

Going down from a large photo is less problematic than going up
from a small photo. That is why the larger one is more blurred.

Jo*mar Thank you. I'll try this. My webroot is going to have a fit though. Thanks. BF:hug::hug::hug:

I tried to download it,and it tried to sell the product only. Then I got error messages.

I haven't had the computer checked by a professional in over two years. This computer was owned by two people before me I think. It's a 2003 Dell Windows XP.

I think that I need to have the computer checked in the near future.

I thank you all for all the work that you have done,in trying to help me with this computer. BF:hug::hug::hug:

You probably have some malware or viruses on it - sometimes they block other programs so you can't clean the system.

I just reinstalled Glary on my system last week , there is a place to click during the install to stay with the free program but it is small and in the lower corner I think.

But that doesn't explain the errors you got.. If you try to install it again look for the small button to continue with the free program.

I'm curious what the errors were about, if you get them again write down what it says. That could be one of the main problems you are having.

If you have any very important info on the computer (banking, ins., medical- that sort of thing)- i would copy it to a USB flash drive or thumb drive and then delete it from the computer hard drive.

you might try these free scanner/remover from reputable & safe sites -
http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
http://www.mcafee.com/us/downloads/f...e-stinger.aspx
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

this one is a regular download and can stay on your computer for you to manually run every so often as needed.

Do you have a cd of the operating system - XP with the SP3 - if you ever need to wipe it all and start fresh?
If you have the serial # for the computer - I think you can still request /order a replacement cd from Microsoft or maybe even Dell if it was ever registered.

As long as it boots up and isn't making any oddball noises it will keep going til something actually gives out on it.
Might not be the fastest or the most powerful , but as long as it goes online ... :)

If you don't need Windows for any personal softawre- you might consider this-
the totally free Linux operating systems - usually they use less resources than the Microsoft OS - so it is easier for the computer to process things faster.
Many of Linux distros will have a live cd that you can run from the disk drive to see if you like it before installing.
If you know how to burn iso files , you can download and burn your own to try, or order a cd or usb - super cheap.:):):D
[Linux Mint 12 DVD $4.95
Ubuntu 11.10 $1.75
Fedora 16 DVD $4.95
openSUSE 12.1 DVD $4.95
Debian 6.0.3 DVD set $31.95
CentOS 6.2 DVD $4.95
PCLinuxOS 2011.6 $1.75

My favs now are Lubuntu , PCLinuxOS, Mepis

just thought I'd let you know about that option as XP is only supposed to be supported til 2014 or so. I'll be going 100% Linux on my old pcs then.
