satcitykitty--I joined in November 2011
but today will be my first post. i just want to say hello to everyone. also, please wish me a little luck. after years of back pain and i don't know how many shots, i will finally get to test drive a spinal cord stimulator starting 1-9-12. i have a ton of confidence in my doc and great hope that this technology will let me have some amount of relief.
i have an appointment coming in at 12 so i need to finish up my lunch period and get back to work. my best to all. |
temporary leads put in yesterday
and for the first time in years i want to cry because i'm NOT in nearly as much pain. they told me to go ahead and keep it on while i sleep and i slept almost through the whole night. my partner told me i looked totally different this morning. my coworkers have told me today how much better i look. it's going to take a little getting used to (mainly with my feet) but i'm having an absolute BLAST walking and not having to argue with my legs to get them to move for me. the temp will come out this saturday and i hope i can go ahead and get things started to have the permanent one put in.
i have a student waiting so i have to go. everyone have a great day!!! |
okay. slept through the night again!! that's two nights in a row and that's unheard of for me. when i go to the doctor on saturday to have it taken out i will be able to tell what my week was in three words:
"BEST WEEK EVER!!!!!" |
so they took the temporary leads out
boston scientific warned me that the pain would come back. what they did not say is that it would come back with a vengeance. so i'm back to having to struggle to walk at times. that's the bad news. the good news is that i've got a tentative date for the implant (2-9-12). we're going to use the plain leads not the paddle leads which is more than fine with me. all we have to do now is get the insurance to agree.

the insurance has not yet responded
to my doctor as to yes or no regarding the spinal cord stimulator. i really don't know what's going on. i'm not asking for favors, just answers so i'm feeling kinda down right now. the procedure is scheduled for 2-9. i've pretty much made the decision that if i don't have an answer by wednesday next i will call and cancel the procedure.

Hi satcitykitty :)
I have made a thread for you here on the SCS forum so that the posts you made on the New Member forum are all together and the members here on SCS can respond |
Hello satcitykitty!
It's great to finally get you over here to the SCS forum! Thank you Chemar!
I tried to get you to come here a couple of times, but maybe you didn't know how to follow the shortcut link I provided. This is the place to get lots of feedback. No one will really see all this great information you are sharing over on the New Member forum. Try not to be frustrated with this waiting. Hopefully the insurance will come thru for you. It usually does take awhile. Please don't call and cancel your procedure if you don't hear anything by Wednesday! Why would you want to do that? You had wonderful success with the trial, so please hang in there until they can get a solid date scheduled for you! It's great that you are here. You'll get plenty of support and understanding while you wait for your permanent implant. We've all been thru this and we love to help each other. Feel free to ask anything you like. You're among friends! Rae :grouphug: |
Hi satcatcity :)
It took my insurance a couple of weeks to approve the permanent implant. I did have a date schedued = pending their approval. It was so hard waiting, but so worth it. I did have a serious pain reaction a couple of days after removal of my trial. The pain was horrible, so I had my youngest take me to the emergency. I'd never done that before, and missed a couple days of work. It was an ordeal, but really - I'm glad I had it done. I depend on my buzzer keeping everthing stimulated and happy (for the most part)!! Keep us updated!

Hi SatCity
WELCOME among friends who will sympathize, empathize, share, comfort, listen, advise, and GIVE FREELY. You have already met two of the best on this little side bar of the universe.
Amazing how in reading your posts now gathered here, I am rereading my own history..... verbatim...... It worked, it was amazing, a gift from God, a blessing beyond the blessings I had known to date, and YES, I did cry when my wife asked of my pain, and during Trial I commented I could not feel any........ any at all. Insurance, while it is a pain waiting, and I waited weeks for the come through of the Okey Dokey, ultimately they provided for me and it has been heaven for all of us in our family. Friends have commented how my face lost its grimace, how my eyes no longer revealed the pain about which I would LIE because I tired to telling others that I hurt. You have tasted of the fruit of the tree of knowledge, and it is sweet. Now we pray your insurance answers soon and in the affirmative so scheduling may proceed apace. Yep, Mark56:hug::grouphug: |
Wishing you all the best Kitty x x

Hi Satcatcity
So glad to hear your trial was so successful. Don't give up and cancel your date for implant. Let your Dr. Office work with your insurance. My implant was delayed 3 weeks. I was so upset But the wait was well with it. Good luck. Sandy K |
Welcome
Welcome to the group:grouphug:
Everyone here is here to help you. I'm only one month out of surgery from SCS implant. Other than the pain from the surgical site and a torn muscle from surgery (doctors don't think so but it tore from something!) the every day to day pain is doing much better. Who would a thought that something like this would take the pain away. I have Medronic stimulator with the new battery that knows when you are laying down, sitting or standing and it adjusts accordingly. Technology today--it's just gets better and better!! SO welcome and hopefully the insurance company approves the implant and soon you will be on the road to recovery. Like you said what a difference this makes. Sleeping better and feeling better is such a task for some of us while our friends and family take alot of that everyday living for granted. I've been in pain for the last 10 years with 6 surgeries and I'm sure my family and friends get tired of all the complaining even tho I don't complain too much. Keep us informed on your updates and when the surgery will be scheduled. Good Luck  |
