SSI claim

Hi all.... some of you may remember that I filed for disability almost 4 years ago and have been denied due to not providing sufficient medical records. I have since my ALJ hearing retrieved all of my medical records and have been seeing my dr regularly (despite of the anxiety to go out). I started a new claim (ssdi) and was mailed a letter from SSA saying I may be eligible for SSI (due to being homeless and no income or resources) and to fill out the authorization to release as well as the form online. I did that and went into the office to supply them with all of the medical records to date stating my disabilities (visual and mental) and my dr has also filled out a mental rfc form stating the severity of my disability (mostly all marked limitation). I was told by the field office worker that based on what I gave her (which was very thorough) she would flag my claim to be expedited and that she would also suggest DDS would allow a presumptive decision (the first I ever heard of that). I am in the waiting process once again.... based on what the field worker and what I have read so far I am eligible. I know things are not just that easy however I hope they find in my favor shortly. My question is a presumptive recommendation from the field office worker is a good sign right? Please give me your experiences and feedback. :)

That certainly sounds promising. It's really unfortunate that you're no longer eligible for SSDI. BUT, Some states will give you additional funds if you qualify for SSI. In CA, for example, they will sometimes match your SSI benefit. You should check in to housing options as well. Some areas give priority to those with disabilities. If you can get accepted into section 8, you can use it to move anywhere you want in the US.

thanks Love. I am still eligible for SSDI. I just had to reapply, since the 60 days expired for me to appeal...they sent the letter regarding SSI. I just began a new application for SSDI. I am on a Section 8 waiting list which is very long. I am still fighting...I think the 1st application I really didn't know what I was doing and what was required in order to get a favorable ruling. I lacked sufficient medical history with my application and was very vague and general (although I thought I was giving them what they wanted). I feel better about this time around because I am very thorough and am not leaving anything to chance or anyone else to handle. I follow up on everything.

Your post title was"SSI Claim", so I thought you were no longer eligible. That's good news!

Please go through the "Don't start your claim unprepared" Sticky. There's some good posts in there (and some that aren't as well...)

If you haven't purchased a NOLO guide on SSD, it's worth checking to see if your library has a copy, or consider purchasing a copy.

update!!

DDS called today... my claim has already been assigned to an ajudicator. yaayyyy. They have already made calls to the drs for records. I already submitted almost all of the records (except the hospital records) with my initial claim. So I told the ajudicator that I would retrieve those records and send them to her to alleviate any delay in processing my claim. She said they will work on it quickly since it is flagged to be expedited. They told me that my claim wouldn't be assigned an ajudicator until next week sometime. I am happy that they are working quickly on it. :)

This is more with SSDI then SSI, though. And if you have a hardship, things can get expedited quickly. ;)
