Warmer Weather.....Diet Time.
Okay, since we barely had a Winter and Spring seems to be getting shoved out of the way by Summer.......it's time to shed some of the winter weight and try (at least) to lose a few pounds. :o
Anybody else trying to slim down? Seems I'm always trying to............but I'd love it if I could lose 15-20 pounds. Usually when the warmer weather hits I'm all psyched up to eat lighter and leaner. Don't feel that way so much this year. :( Maybe it's because I can't buy fresh produce as often as I'd like to. Not trying to make excuses but it's hard to eat fresh when you can only go to the grocery once a month! Any suggestions? :) |
YEAH! That's it! It's "winter weight"! I've got to remember that! :D
|
Isn't that the way it works? ;) All the extra weight that we're hiding under sweatshirts and sweaters seems to be much more noticeable in the light of Summer. :o
I think I'm just going to stock up on Lean Cuisine and WW frozen entrees and skip cooking altogether. I've also started buying all natural no-sugar-added applesauce in the little individual serving cups and keeping them in the fridge. It's a cold snack that's low in calories and just like eating an apple without all the mess. |
If you are eating frozen dinners, Healthy Choice (Top chef selections) aren't too bad. They are definitely better than WW. They have them at Wal Mart here for 2.50 and entree. They are on the small side. They are more expensive at the regular grocery store.
|
I think Healthy Choice is better, too, Barb. I believe they're lower in sodium. I'll look for those. Their Cafe Steamers are really good. :)
|
The Top chef one I had the other night was also a steamer.
|
I like (and need) these kinds of meals because they're portion controlled. Apparently what I think is a serving size and what is actually a serving size are two different things! :o

I love the fruits and veggies we have during the Summer months. But I can't stock up on those. Whenever I get the chance to go to the store I get some but can't get much or they'll spoil.
I love watermelon and luckily it keeps longer than most produce. I just got a canteloupe the other day and it was so good. I envy those who have a garden and the energy to keep up with it. |
Kitty,
Count me in on trying to lose weight. Mostly by walking more. I really enjoy it. The trade off is limbs flying around at night when I try to relax to sleep. It's working though and I think those involuntary movements must burn calories, too.;) If you can't get fresh produce, frozen fruit & veggies are almost as good and not too expensive and you can stock up on those. I use Lean Cuisine as a sort of Meals on Wheels hot lunch for me when I am too tired to make a lunch. They say right on the front the amount of protein, fat and calories. As a vegetarian, I am always asking myself, "Where is the protein?" Hey, the sun just came out! TILT! ANN |
Bahhhh!! My Aim is to stop gaining..:D

Okay.....I went grocery shopping this morning. Got all low fat stuff. Lots of fruit and veggies, too. Gotta start at some point so by not having anything fattening in the house I really don't have a choice but to eat healthier.
I'm drinking lots of water, too. And getting lots of exercise walking back and forth to the potty. I bought a couple of canteloupes, several apples, some kale, a fresh pineapple that's ready to be cubed up, and a cauliflower. I also found some fresh frozen green beans from a local farm here called Local Harvest so I got those to try. I also got some microwave steaming bags from Ziploc to steam the cauliflower in. I love fresh cauliflower and it's so much better steamed. So I'm ready to eat healthier. Wish me luck! :) |
Good luck Kitty!
I'm going to a free course for pre-diabetics beginning tomorrow night. I already know (I think) what they're going to tell us, but I must need to hear it again cuz I sure am F A T . Ugh. So why did I have cookies for breakfast and caramel apples for snacks? Oh yeah, cuz they taste so GOOD! If its a battle between my brain and my tongue, my tastebuds win every time. BAD GIRL. Okay, count me in. *sigh* Why couldn't I be one of those people who struggle to put weight ON???? |
I know how you feel, Twink. Ever since having children I've struggled with my weight.
I did pretty good yesterday. Drank lots and lots of water and it's helping me feel better. It usually takes a few days but it helps to keep me not hungry. After the first couple of days of eating better/cleaner/healthier it's so much easier to keep with it. Yesterday I had a low-fat high-fiber English Muffin with almond butter and a little honey for breakfast and it kept me feeling full for hours. It was good, too. I cubed up a fresh pineapple and put in a bowl in the fridge so I can snack on that when I need something sweet. I cooked some fresh kale and eat that whenever I want something that's not sweet. Made the house stink but oh well. Nobody here but me and the cats and bad smells don't seem to bother them! :p |
I like those Healthy Choice and Lean Cuisine dinners. I figure if I eat two at once, I'll lose weight twice as fast. Right?

Just bought some WW frozen meals. They were on sale for $1.89 each. Will buy yogurt @ $.50 ea along with 4 lbs of oranges for $1.77. Forget the dieting and change the way you eat. That's a cheap lunch and cuts into caloric intake. But I also bought jellybeans and twizzlers. Only to be eaten as a treat or reward. I've never had more than 15 or 20 pounds to lose but I figure, the weight does not happen overnight. I know when I feel a little heavy to seriously watch what I eat. Have not dieted in 7 years.
Good luck cause I know the bbq season can be loaded with calories and fat. |

Yes, rewards are good. :)
I've done pretty good the first few days of my "healthy eating plan". I won't say "diet" because that sounds too restrictive. And I'm really not banning anything......just consciously making healthier and better choices. Of course, it helps not to have tempting things in the house. I'm not using the scale....but going by how I feel and how my clothes fit. The only numbers I'm concerned with are my cholesterol levels. I feel better just knowing that I'm putting good-for-me things in my body. I do have that choice. :) |

I am slow getting started -- just got back from a walk with a friend. My first bit of authentic exercise that didn't involve walking from the couch to the fridge.
The numbers I am paying attention to (eventually...) are carbs. I'm supposed to limit them to 60 per meal. That's what they said at the pre-diabetic class I attended. I'm supposed to keep track of everything I eat...and I will...just don't rush me!!! :p |
Has anyone else tried the Dole fruit in gel cups? I know you can make your own cheaper and more natural, but the Dole cups are sooooo convenient and yummy.:p
Mandarin in orange gel. pinapple in lime gel and mixed fruit in dark cherry gel, are the ones I've tried and lurve-slurp.:) They have some with no sugar added, but haven't tried those, fearing the evil sugar subs.:icon_twisted: They don't have as great of a selection. I swear, since eating them, I feel lighter and better. :) |
I'm going grocery shopping this evening so I'll get some and try them. I've been getting all natural unsweetened applesauce. It's sweet enough to cure a sweet tooth craving. I get them in the little plastic single serve cups, too.
Another thing I've been doing is using the Ziploc Zip 'n Steam bags. You can put fresh cauliflower in them and steam it. I love cauliflower so it's a great snack. Fresh green beans are good in them, too. While they're hot I spritz them with a little I Can't Believe It's Not Butter spray (0 calories/no fat...so what the heck is in it??). For a sweet snack I cut up pink grapefruit (cut it in half then cut into quarters) and put it in a Tupperware container in the fridge. It gets cold and makes a great snack on hot days. I've tried the regular grapefruit but it's a little too tart for me. The pink grapefruit is yummy. |
Oooooo, I like some of your ideas Kell, thanks.

Food Recommendation
Another yummy thing I've tried is the Gorton's Skillet Crisp Tilapia. It's low in sodium, had no trans fat and it's not fried! I tried it and it's delicious. Easy to prepare, too. I like it better than buying fresh fish filets and preparing them in the oven.
