Pocket of Fluid- 3 Weeks After Permanant Implant
UGH! I knew something was amiss. Last Thursday I went to the Dr because my incision on my spine was *****, he cleaned it and put sterile stripes on it and sent me home with it covered. Showed up yesterday for a follow up and told him that I was in so much pain that something was wrong. He removes the gauze and stuff and just stares and my back. After having 3 other surgeons come in and stare at my back like I was on exhibit, they determined my body was "rejecting" the internal stitches and brought me to the surgery center to numb me up and dig out the stitches.
Well.... While digging, something pops! And boy it felt good, I finally felt relief. They found a large pocket of fluid between my spine and the metal device. Still unsure if it has corrupt my device or not, but if so, it must come out! Today, we go back to learn how to change my dressing for my gaping wound daily and find out more about this. Also, surgeon said I can't travel to Florida, which I'm scheduled to fly out tomorrow because I need close monitoring but he also said this won't make me sick. So, I'm super confused, upset and mad. Has anyone had anything like this? Thanks! Tara |
Correction::
The system must have thought I said a nasty word when I described the yellow puss in incision.

Wow Tara.....I'm sorry to hear this.
Are you still getting stimulation where it needs to be? or maybe the pain has kept you from even turning the unit on. Hopefully now that the stitches are out, things will clear up and you can go on with your SCS. Sounds as tho the doctors were rather perplexed at this finding. I can sure see why they don't want you to travel. I'm so sorry this has disrupted the plans you've made. :( you probably had everything planned out long ago and now this. I'm so sorry that you've been put through all this pain. I'm anxious to know what today's appointment will bring. Praying for a good outcome of all this, Rae  |
dear tara
my 2nd surgery already before leaving i complained about my right upper back a swelling of the size of a half grapefruit where i complained about and ignored as i it were in my head well 2 or 3 days surprise back to the hospital drained it 4 times this was from my spine i lost all respect that i had left so yes hope you are doing well |
So Sorry Tara
Dear Tara, I feel so sad for your situation. Saffy in the UK suffered a wound which would not close, but did not complain of a build up of infection. I, on the other hand, experienced infection as Trial came to an end and had a good sized p u s sack at skin level which burst, resulting in a lot of icky stuff, a panic about infection, an insuror which did not want to pay for antibiotics because they just figured I had a sinus infection and was trying with a perpetration of fraud by my doc to receive antibiotics, then I paid for the antibiotics to get them anyway. Thereafter, stupid fool at insurance finally was shaken awake and did reimburse for the meds I purchased.
Maybe I should have let it go and had them deal with a full blown hospitalization due to sepsis from the Trial since they refused the antibiotic. But, since it is my life, I sprung for the meds. May you ultimatetly be blessed with restoration of health. Prayin, Mark56:grouphug: |
Will be praying for you that you get quick resolution to your situation. I can't imagine the feeling of relief being followed by finding out it was infection! I hope you are being well taken care of and can go to Florida like you want.

Surgery on self
Dear Saffy, you could be surprised what is inside. I have watched surgery on myself, both interesting and incredible. Even so, sticking a syringe in thy own body seems a bit much..... do have the pro folks see to that so you can survive to drive Tootle.... OK?
Hugs, Prayers, Mark45:hug:z |
I had an ultrasound that showed tissue and o ly a little blood .. So I don't really know where I stand. Do I have to live with this ugly thing. Even my husband winces when he touches it.

Doc must know
Where is Milburn Stone when one needs him? [the grizzled and wizened doc on Gunsmoke]
Yup, Go see the doc Saffy......... dare I suggest...... again? Caring deeply, Mark56:hug:z |
Well I had a ultrasound again .. Showed a finger sized bit of blood that could be drained but nothing massive. He says it's not a hernia nor really a hematoma but rather a mass from the operation.
Am ringing the secretary tomorrow as I think I do have a follow up appointment, but want to ask for one anyway as I've had to up my pain killers: 20mg Zomorph twice daily 40mgnTramadol for breakthrough pain 10mg diazepam for back spasms 40mg amatriptyline at night 20mg Tamazepam nightly Movicol Biosocodyl Omeprazole to protect my tummy. And a partridge in a pear tree ...... I hope, even if he has to make another scar, that he can flatten the boiled egg .. Really must do a pic of it for you .. Perhaps when he next puts the other stim in. I'm also hoping that my loopy loo episode on the Friday before I came out wont go against me physiologically. I was seriously suicidal and they knew it. Pfft, trust me. Hahah .. Good Job the glass was reinforced on the 17th floor. |
Arghhhh
Thinking of sending a pirate your way to raise the cutlass [not a present day pirate, mind ye] and make it well known you are to be treated better than a boiled egg...... overdone! They must make this right!
We'll give 'em a broadside, but prayer for you, Mark56:hug:z |
