My Refridgerator
 

My refrigerator is about 11 years old. It's a Whirlpool......freezer on top model. I've never had any problems with it. It's now making a knocking noise whenever the motor goes off. I've checked the freezer and the fridge and they're both cooling normally. What could this noise be coming from? Is the motor fixing to go?

I noticed that as my older fridge aged it made more and more noises, A good cleaning, inside and out, filters and all, would quiet things down. It was a Fridgidaire and about 40 years old when I replaced it.:eek:

Of course they don't build them to last like that anymore..:rolleyes::mad:

Ours does this all the time. Has done so for years. We figure something is loose holding the compressor to the frame.

As long as it works, (over 20 yrs now--Kenmore) we are not replacing it.

That's what happened to ours. The motor is usually mounted on a gimble that runs the compressor. It's all in a sealed unit and there no way to get to it for fixing. And eventually ours was gone and so had to be replaced. They sure don't make them like they used to. :(

I'd love a new one......Freezer on the bottom and split doors on top. Of course, I don't want to have to pay for it. :rolleyes:

Yeah, a freezer on the bottom would be nice!!

Does the noise sound like a ping-pong ball bouncing? My Kenmore Freezer does that when it is doing self-defrosting. It's 8 yrs old and has been doing it for the past 3 years. Costs too much to just get it looked at! So we're going to let it slide until it dies.

I had to replace the refrigerator last year when the compressor died. It has a counter height drawer between the bottom freezer and upper doors. The energy efficiency difference is amazing... I rarely hear the thing run. It does make a popping/creaking noise when it does self-defrost mode.

I'm listening for it all the time.....and checking the freezer to make sure things are still frozen. There is another fridge in the garage that I could transfer things to in an emergency. I don't like it.....it's an older model and white.....but aside from the cosmetic "ick" factor it works and I could use it if I really needed one in a pinch. I keep water and larger frozen items in there that I don't use too often so as not to crowd the freezer in the house.

I'm just going to let it knock and bump all it wants to.....as long as it's cooling properly I'm okay with it.

You can find some quite reasonable now. I had a ge side by side that had to be replaced right after the warranty expired. I bought a french door and love it. I didn't buy ge. They are on punishment. I got whirlpool gold and am quite happy with it.

Mine now is a Whirlpool Gold model. This is the first time it's ever done anything that concerned me. It's still working properly so until it stops keeping things cold I'll just live with the noises it makes!

Hey, I make some noises I never used to before......guess getting older affects everything the same way! :o:p;)

I plan on keeping mine until it quits. My other appliances are ge except my microwave cause I bought that years ago and it still works. As my appliances quit I'll replace with whirlpool so they all match. I'm so crazy about my whirlpool that when I move I'm taking it with me.:)

Actually, if you discover it did die, keep everything closed. Don't open unless you really need to. The stuff will keep for a few days, long enough to replace it. That is the info we get during hurricane season when we might loose power. If your frozen stuff thaws, it can be refrozen if it still has crystals in it. If not, cook and use.

We had our house built in 1978. I would love for our stove to go out! It is avacado green. The dishwasher and refridge finally did. But we still have the avacado counter tops and sink. I don't think those can break. Sometimes my spirit does though. I can't get my husband to realize that it is unsellable as it is. Not that we are selling it. We own it and I don't want another mortgage. But at some point our kids will have to sell it when we die
