External Speakers for the Kindle Fire

Just wanted to share with you what I just bought. I had been viewing videos (either from youtube) or from imdbfree.com and watching movies. The speaker on the Kindle Fire is just fine. But what does one do when watching a youtube video and the sound is LOW??

This does happen at times. And when I'm on my friend's porch and she's a bit deaf and needs a bit of more volume??

Well, I found this little gem for $10 at Walgreens.

Here you go.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9W8EWnytBQc

Melody.

And I have a question of my own. Now that I have my tablets getting a wi fi signal from my new modem/router, I am thinking: "What if I ever get my hands on a laptop. (and I would have to use a mouse, because I just like them better than using touch screens on laptops. i have used my friend's and I can't stand using the touchscreen. It's just a personal preference.

My modem/router has 3 extra ethernet outputs. I have no idea why it does and what I would plug into them (3 extra computers)?? What on earth for?

I'm thinking that if I could EVER get my hands on a second hand laptop and of course it would be wi fi ready right?

Do I have to anything specific to get wi fi from my new modem/router? Or do I just turn on the laptop, it wi fi software will immediately look for the closest signal, which would be my own Wi Fi network, and BAM, I could go on the internet the same way I do with my tablets?

Is there a limit to how many wi fi devices in one's homes that one can use?

See i am still learning this wi fi stuff and if I could ever get my hands on a laptop, I might be able to do Ebay once again. I can never get near my PC because Alan is always on there. (don't ask, he doesn't listen to me anymore), lol He says it gets his mind off his PN.

So to put it simply, if I ever get a laptop I just turn it on, and I'll get wi fi on that too?? And do I have to do anything to sync it up with the modem/router????

Thanks much

The extra ports are for anything like laptops, printers, switches, etc...

If your router is emitting a wireless signal then any wifi enabled device (laptops) will see the signal and you connect the exact same as the Kindle does.

No limit...but its like a bottle neck, the more people sharing the signal the slower it will get..

So, no, you wont have to do anything special at all. Turn the laptop on, choose a wireless network, connect to it and BAM!!

And here's another of my stupid questions. You say the extra ports are for anything liek laptops, printers, switches, etc.

What exactly do you mean by this?

I really don't know.
Thanks, Melody

There are two ways to connect to a router: wired and wireless

Wired allows you to connect any device directly to your router using the CAT5 (ethernet cable) ports like a desktop computer, laptop, printer, gaming device, etc....

Wireless is just that, you can connect any device that is wifi enabled to your router using NO cables...

For instance, if you have a old computer (desktop type or laptop) that still works that is near your new router, you can plug it directly into the router with a cable to give it the Internet...

So, 4 wired connections, unlimited wireless....

Party @ Melodys!!!

So lets see if I got this right. Someone who doesn't need their desktop and monitor can give them to me andug into extra ethernet port and I have wired Internet access or I get laptop and either connect via extra ethernet port or wi ti?? Right? Oh would connecting any device to extra ethernet port affect broadband speed? Or is the speed only affected by wifi devices? Thanks so much.

1) Exactly right.

2) Think of it like this on the speed thing. If you have ONE Internet connection and ONE computer you get 100%. 2 computers down to 50%, 3 computers down to 33%, etc, etc...

BUT, if you are just using the Internet and NOT downloading or emailing HUGE files you prob wont even notice as you wont be using all the bandwidth thats allocated to you.

I'm not sure what an App for NT would do? I don't know of anything like that.
Can you browse & post from the Kindle now?

Jomar 08-08-2012 11:13 PM

There are lots of free apps on Amazon for the kindle.
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_pg_2?...qid=1344485069

Here's info about a mobile app for vbulletin -

Kindle fire

You do not need an app for NT. Bookmark it in your browser. I hear the "DOLPHINE" web browser works well. Also if the kindle supports bluetooth you can get both a mouse and keyboard that connect bluetooth. I have a Ipad and thats the setup I use.

I know about Blue Tooth, I know about mouses (mice??) I know this and i know that. I don't know anything about Dolphine. I DO know about the app store. I've downloaded MANY free apps on BOTH of my tablets.

I thought I was getting good at that. Tapping here, doing 1 click. I'm VERY careful what I tap on.

Well.....yesterday they were having a free app Bug in a Bag (or something like that). a free kindle ebook to tell you what items you will need if there was a flood or an emergency. It was free. I tapped, I purchased it. I CAN READ.

Well. in 5 minutes I got a message telling me "Congratulations you have bought the second book 50 SHADES OF GRAY Dark ) Or something like that.

Now I know what that book is. At my age WHY THE HECK WOULD I BE BUYING 50 SHADES OF ANYTHING??" lol

So I immediately knew this was an error. I found a way (took me some time to find out how to cancel a KIndle Purchase.) It seems you go to my account on Amazon, you find the option "manage my kindle", you select 'refund", you give a reason (I chose Accidental Purchase) but believe me, there was no accidental purchase. And I got an email saying they refunded my $9.99 and it should show up in 3 days on my credit card.

I will probably never purchase any app again. I might be charged $49.99 as an ACCIDENT??

Good Lord. lol

I'm happy with what I have. I have various games. And I have whatever I need.

Now I'm going to learn what Dolphine is.

lol

Thanks much
Melody
P.S. I'm still learning what all these icons I'm tapping are for. Like the bookmarks icon.

Have LOTS to learn still. lol

I'll check Dolphin. Did you see my latest question about a gadget that charges ALL the mobile devices we have. I'm trying to find it. I know it exists.

Okay, let me see if I got this straight. There is a Dolphin browser which I can download to my kindle device, which, when downloaded, I can TALK INTO THIS TABLET like they do with an Iphone?

REALLY???

Well, I'm screwed. i went to google play, clicked on the android app thing, and all of a sudden google told me there is suspicious activity on my google account and it is suspending my account unless I fill out some thing and put my phone number in and get a verification code from them via my phone.

I did as instructed. I never got a phone call and now I can't access anything. No google, no youtube. MY YOUTUBE ACCOUNT IS FROZEN?

This is so not fun anymore.

Talking to kindle

For most devices using the Android software when you see the keyboard pop up you can use text to speech capability. For some devices you may first have to enable this in the settings from the main display.

When the keyboard pops up look for a key that looks like a microphone. You may also be able to set your device up for specific commands. Such as, search, open web browser, open a specific app.

You will have to decide what the command should do and the set it up with a command phrase. I will check specifics and repost.

Kindle OS

The Kindle OS is a one off for the fire only I found a link that will give you more info. The link is http://www.buzzle.com/articles/alter...ples-siri.html

Sorry for typing it out but I can not post hyperlinks yet. Some of these apps may or may not work on your device. I will look more and if I find something relevant will send it on to you.

I find this absolutely fascinating and you can't tell me that in 1947 the aliens did not land in Roswell. I think that's where we got all this stuff from. It's all being studied in Area 51 an really? Talking responsive browsers? Do you think WE came up with this?? lol

I don't know that I understand all those Siri and iris and which one I could put on my tablets. I'm still trying to understand how they would work.

I am a work in progress and I'm only 64 going to be 65 soon AND ONLY JUST BEGINNING!!!

Not sure about Kindle , but my smart phone came with the Google voice installed already. pretty neat.

Does your kindle have any pre installed apps that say voice something?
Oh, It would also have to have a microphone on it somewhere, does it have one of those?

Space and tech

It is an awful lot of space for one species. To think we just canceled a huge portion of NASA. On the other hand I was working with 486 architecture computers in 81. The military has the best stuff. Typically there is a twenty to thirty year window that tech exists and the public knows nothing about it.
So who knows whats out there?

Since the internet has actually been around for almost 40 years (but we didn't have access yet), and now we have tablets, smartphones, wi fi, etc. etc, one can only surmise that indeed, in the foreseeable future, we shall travel NOT BY PLANE, but by Transporters, a la Star Trek.

Now me? I would be like Bones from that show. I wouldn't want my atoms spread around and then reassembled elsewhere.

I might wind up with my boobs on my rear end and vice versa!!!

rofl.

Melody

rmschaver 08-11-2012 02:39 PM

Transporters

With the concept of string theory there are those who would argue space no longer matters. The argument is that every thing is connected to every other thing. If that were true one would only need to alter ones energy level to match that of another point in space. It would no longer be capable to exist in the one but you would have to exist in the other. No matter the distance you would go to that point. Instantaneous there would not even be any concept of time passage.

Or warp speed. Think of that as traveling on the edge of a event horizon of a black hole where time and space are distorted and multiples of faster than light speed is possible. Like surfing a wave.

Maybe not, I can no longer connect the complicated principles of what I did for work. I can still draw on long term memory but trying to communicate my thoughts is frequently like extracting something form quicksand.

Ah, but you still have your soul, and THAT's where it's all at!!

At least this is what I believe.

Lots of good energy coming from you.

And I'm sending my own your way.

Take care and thanks so much for all the good info.

Melody

rmschaver 08-14-2012 09:50 PM

Greater thanwe know

I believe we have a soul. That the soul is a facet of ourselves. The physical being we see and touch is a poor expression of a more eloquent existence. If we are immortal and our time here is short. Then there is truely nothing here to fear but what our minds fool us into believing.

Funny even though I believe this I find the practice of it much more difficult.

Well.....my husband (who is jewish but believes in Jesus (I guess that makes him a Messianic Jew, right), he believes that ALL his pain, suffering and neuropath, etc, is a punishment that he has to endure right now is due to past negative behaviors on his part, so when his time comes, he will enjoy the spiritual rewards in the afterlife. This gets him through his day.

Me??? I believe in Genetics, dominant genes, recessive genes, genes that mutate, genes that are triggered by external forces (be it smoking, second hand, third hand, alcohol, the atmosphere, the radiation from too much exposure to the sun, BLAH BLAH, ad infinitum.

And this from a Catholic School girl who was educated by the nuns in both primary and high school and from priests who sat in front of my class telling us that "YOU ARE NOT NECESSARY". Because if you were necessary, that would mean, that God needs you, and he would be imperfect and he's not imperfect."

Isn't it odd, the stuff we remember from grade school.

Imagine a 13 year old girl being told she was not necessary.

I believe we should all have empathy, be kind to each other, be good to each other and help each other whenever we can.

That way we give off GOOD energy and we absorb GOOD energy.

Don't mean to bash any religious beliefs. To me, this is plain old common sense.

Do unto others, etc. etc.

And yes indeed, I do pray every single night before going to sleep. Makes me feel good.

lol
Melody
And now we an go back to discussing external speakers. Oh, I don't know if I mentioned this one one of these postings, but I bought a charming orange little external speaker from Walgreens. Called SPLASH. It's exactly like the Music Bullet that they sell in As Seen On TV.

I unplugged my headphones, plugged this little orange wonder into the headphone jack of my PC and WOW, the sound was awesome.

So if my headphones ever go, and i need a speaker until I buy new headphones (Alan is going deaf so he needs headpones), well I have this little orange wonder. lol

What we must expeirence

Destiny or chance. Without suffering how would we know joy. Why are some wealthy in the ways of this world and others so desolute? My wife is an agnostic, I think of my self as non-denominational. I was raised independent bapbtist.

A Taoist believes that we create or own suffering, poetic when one thinks about it. I believe we are here to learn lessons that transcend the physical. Grace, patience, honor, courage, ... They are many and poorly understood. Your husbands belief seems very karmic to me.

If I have learned one thing it is our past, our mistakes do not define us. It is what we learn from those mistakes. Do we avoid them or shall we transcend them. I once had a therapist tell me that the trials of this world polish our souls. Like a rock tumbler. I replied to her I must be really shiney because I was sick of all the polishing.
