Brake pedal or Gas?

The news often reports people hitting the gas instead of the brake and running into buildings or gas pumps or whatever. I've often wondered which pedal I would hit in an emergency. I've been braking with my left foot for 12 years.

Today I got to find out.

After the barest moment of thought......I hit the brake! Correct! :winner_first_h4h:

I was in at the end of the line at a red light. The light turned green, the line moves forward, I take my foot off the brake and WHAM! I got hit from behind.

No one was injured and the damage is minimal (but I bet expensive nevertheless). Unfortunately we had just put my BF's truck in the shop this morning! It's driveable but can't be put in the shop till we get the truck back.

I get home and there's an email from my internet provider saying they will be charging me at least $500 for not returning a device that the tracking number shows that they have had since July 23rd. :picknose: :Sigh:

What a lousy day!!

Sorry to hear about your accident today. Glad to see you are doing ok. Hope everything goes fine with your truck, glad to hear there was minor damage. Just about this time last year we were in an accident, hit from the back at a red light. It totaled our truck, so you are very lucky. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

And thankfully you had a tracking number for proof!

$500 for not returning a device ??
what kind of internet provider device would even cost 500.00??

You have proof with the tracking # that it was sent ,maybe double check the address, but other than that.. they need to double check their records at the internet provider too.

Probably didn't get scanned or was misplaced when it got delivered there.

Well Sparks it wasn't a completely horrible day. Sort of a mix of bad and good. My daddy always said, "if you have no bad things happening, how do you know when something good happens"? :D

Sparky10 08-15-2012 12:45 PM

You're so right Sally! Bad must contradict good or we'd never know the difference.

Jo*mar, misplacement is what I'm thinking. Verizon acknowledges the tracking info and has submitted an "Escalated Research Investigation" to out where the device actually is. It is a Jetpack MiFi, or a personal wifi unit. Costs $50 to purchase with a contract but they feel it's a $500 item.

Thank you Darlene! The truck isn't looking too promising right now and may have to be replaced. ohjoymoredebt:sad-dollar:

Amazing the difference a couple hours can make! :Head-Spin: Now it appears the truck might be an easy fix, and not as expensive.

And things are all set for me to take my car to the body shop Monday. The other insurance company is paying for everything, including a rental car and my deductible.

No headache today, either. :)

Verizon is supposed to call me tomorrow, hopefully with good news.

Like your quotes at the end...Life is crazy...

Glad ur ok...just saw this post. Going to bed now.

I aawlays say, "Above ground & breathin', the rest is Gravy."

As long as the gravy is Chocolate sacuse...I'm good.

:grouphug:

PS: the brain says it's done for the night...man, did you see what it made me type??
:eek::eek::eek::eek::D

The truck cost less than $200! BF says it definitely has more power. No more driving 50 mph on the highway.

I see the Chiro tomorrow ~ we'll see if anything has changed. I think I'm fine.

Verizon, again, did not call me. They have not charged the $500 yet, either.

Yeah...riiiight. Two different agents with the liable insurance company (Progressive), and neither one followed up on any car rental. Good thing I called the body shop before leaving the house. Fingers are crossed for the latest promise of 330pm Tuesday (8-21-12;)). This came directly from the car rental company.

Enterprise was only an hour late. So now I'm driving a Ford Fusion. And will be for a week because that's how long the body shop expects to have my Element. $2200 worth of damage.

I won't know till my next Verizon bill if I'm to be charged for the missing device. I've been told I won't be but have no confirmation of that. And it's $270, not $500.

Good news? There is some. Because of the accident the Chiropractic office has started a new "incident" for me. Medicare only pays for 18 visits per incident. Thought I was told 24 (or more?) originally? Whatever; it's being handled!

Kitt 08-23-2012 01:14 PM

It always was 24 but that might have changed now.

jprinz99 08-25-2012 04:15 AM

glad to hear things are looking up

FYI- IF you do "auto pay" for your service:
we learned (the hard way) to talk to our bank/credit card company ASAP and dispute the charge. You can instruct them not to process a payment for the mifi - just in case the left hand at verizon doesn't know what the right hand is doing. Solves a lot of headaches later on if they erroneously charge you (as they can be slow in crediting your account to fix any mistake)

Sparky10 08-26-2012 09:37 AM

Thank you for that reminder, jprinz! The last person at Verizon I talked to (the most helpful by a long shot) mentioned suspending autopay. He also said that I should not be getting the charge. "Saying" is one thing - I want it in writing!
