any help welcome with post concussion syndrome!

Hi, It's helpful to read about everyone's experiences and post-concussion syndrome really is a difficult thing to have. Just over 3 months ago, I tripped on a step and hit my head. I'm still dizzy, am exhausted, can only manage short walks and have had a few anxiety attacks. I can't believe all this is happening from one fall! I've been working with many doctors and have been doing everything from western medicine to cranial sacral to acupuncture. I am far from being able to work (teaching childrens theater) and try to focus on the small improvements but get discouraged often. It's hard to be patient when this is taking so long and I feel so limited in what I can do. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Welcome Deb

You are doing a great job working to get things back to normal.

It takes work to do that. It also takes time.

Keep taking short walks. Increase the length a little each day.

Also try building your strength. One of the things that helped me with
dizziness was PT, but I also had problems with other issues so I had
to go through PT for those. So see if you can go for a short lesson
to get some home therapy lessons to work on dizziness at home.

Thank you for your reply. It's encouraging. I have also been doing vestibular therapy to help with the dizziness and am hoping that I won't be as fatigued when my head doesn't have to work so hard to not be dizzy!

I just wanted you to hear my story and hope that it can offer some hope to you to let you know that your not the only person that is going through something that can be debilitating as this. I was working out in Colorado and recently got hit playing basketball going up for an alley oop. I was 227 pds at the time and am currently 190. I have seen multiple doctors who told me that this just has to work itself out. You know you wanna wake up everyone morning and the symptoms will be gone but there not. I been at my parents home for over a month now trying to recover from this concussion. I've had it for over three months and have searched for an answer b/c I just want to know what is wrong with me and what I can do to help my situation. Some of the symptoms I have are high anxiety, fogginess, vision problems, concentration, fatigue, appetite problems, depression, and etc. I was told by my doctor to eat right, exercise, lift light weights, and get alot of rest. This is the hardest thing that I've ever done in my life. Some things that I can tell you not to do is drink alcohol, don't try to do multiple things at once. Try to relax and keep your mind occupied with simple tasks. This has taken me to depths in my mind I'd never thought I go, but having family support and hope that it will go away is advice I can give. I had a couple when I was younger, but the experience that I'm having with this is beyond the craziest thing I been through. Stretch everyday, do simple tasks, importantly talk about it with people b/c it's hard for them to understand what your actually going through on daily basis.

Thank you for sharing your story. This really is a horrible thing to have. And I am learning that rest really is the key. I recently did not do much but apparently it was too much cuz it set me back. I also have had anxiety and the one thing that has helped me with that is knowing that things will get better. And I've accepted the fact that this is going to take a while which has helped the anxiety also. I do not wish this on anyone though and I appreciate you sharing your story because again, it amazes me that a basketball accident or a fall can lead to this much. (I also recently downloaded audiobooks which is a good activity that doesn't use the brain too much!)

Hi, to you both

So sorry for you injuries. It is hard to go from full speed to being a turtle on your back, at the worst of the event.

It takes time snd understanding .. .

So ask all the questions you can. Share what you feel comfortable sharing.

I do recommend you start a journal. Keep things in it, like drs numbers. Record daily. Include meds, activities, food, problems and symptoms, dates you call regarding your concerns, ADLs, and etc.

Take care...

PCS 3 months

Hello...I too tripped at home 3 months ago. I blacked out about a minute after I fell. I was shaking and lost bladder control. 40 minutes after the fall I blacked out two more times. All 3 black outs were short, apparently 20 to 30 seconds.

I have headaches 24/7, some days worse than others, however I am much better than I was a month ago. The nausea was really hard to tolerate but has subsided a great deal. My biggest problems are my headaches and just a general overall feeling of unwell....so tired all the time.

My neurologist prescribed Nortriptyline. I'm not sure if it has helped or not. I have had my MRI and EEG and will see the neurologist again to go over the results in a couple of weeks. My family doctor has told me that both the MRI and EEG has shown something but minimal.

7 weeks ago I attempted to work as I was told by the insurance company that I would not be covered. After providing them with more medical information they approved my absence.

I am a business analyst so 85% of my job is on the computer and I have to use my brain. I tried 3 separate times to work in that period for just 1/2 days. It was terrible and I was sick for days afterwards.

Now that my short term disability is running out the insurance company has an aggressive return to work program for me...they call it gradual. They don't care about my well being just that I get back to work before they have to pay my salary under the long term care. So starting tomorrow I am to work 4 hours a day for 4 days. The following week is 6 hours a day for 4 days. The week after that its back to full time hours and days. My employer seems to be happy to let the insurance company push me into this. The employee is really alone in this especially since this is an invisible injury that not many people understand. If I had the money and didn't care about my job I would seek legal action.

I know I can't pull off these hours. The thought of trying already makes me feel sick. I cannot explain the anxiety that this creates for me. I believe the stress the insurance company has put me under all the way through this has just made things worse for me.

That's my story. Has anybody else found them self in a similar situation?

Thanks,
Charlee

Have you looked up Atlas vertebrae? **adjusts that vertebrae.. not a crunch or a crack. a very specific adjustment. Please look it up and pass it on. It has saved my life![/B][/B]
