Positive ANA, what does it mean
I guess this is a two part question. I had a bunch of lab work the other day and this one was the only one positive.
Other question. The other day my AVG security recommended O install an AVG search engine. Now when I use my google search nothing happens and I can't find the AVG search. I can do a google search for AVG and it lists it but I can't find it in my computer. So basically I don 't have a search engine anymore. HELP! |
Hi Doydie
Until you figure things out you can simply restore your computer to a time before you installed the AVG. Later you can reverse this by re-restoring your computer to a time after the install. Here's how to disable the installed program without removing it: - Close all programs. - Click on the Start menu on the lower left hand corner of your screen, - Click on all programs, - Click on Accessories, - Click on system tools, - Click on system restore and follow the hints. When the calendar appears, you must click on a date that is bolded and is before the date that you did the installation. Then once you click on finish, restart your computer. Everything should be back to how it was before the install. Sometimes a security setting will block an install or the installed program itself is not compatible with the security system, so some functions may be blocked. McAfee Security programs (standard in Dell computers) are famous for doing this to email functions and search engines if you mess with the default settings of the security program at all. Good luck....and remember, turning your lap top into a Frisbee terminates its warranty :D. With love, Erika |
Thanks Eroka but does this help the positive ANA?
|
according to my google search
"An ANA test detects antinuclear antibodies in your blood. Your immune system normally makes antibodies to help you fight infection. In contrast, antinuclear antibodies often attack your body's own tissues — specifically targeting each cell's nucleus. In most cases, a positive ANA test indicates that your immune system has launched a misdirected attack on your own tissue — in other words, an autoimmune reaction. But some people have positive ANA tests even when they're healthy." http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/ana-test/MY00787 |
Thanks Erin. In other words I have an auto immune disease! Wow. I could have told them that.

yeah, gosh...what a surprise!

I've heard that a positive ANA sometimes points to lupus. But I had a positive ANA test over 30 years ago and haven't heard anything about it--or lupus--since then.

ANA test

Thanks Kitt, very interesting article

I've had both positive and negative ANA tests. Are they running further tests like for Lupus and RA? I had those done as well. I only had one Lupus test come back positive. That doesn't mean I have Lupus as it was more than likely a false positive.
About AVG, that happened to me and the cause was not necessarily a virus but something similar. I think it was called incredibar. It does weird searches. Anyhow, I went in to my add ons and turned off AVG search. |
I know I was tested for RA but I'm not sure about Lupus. Would the test just be called lupus titer or what?
|
I would have to look at my lab results to find out what tests they ran. I know they did the ANA and RA. For Lupus, I know they ran a Anti-dsDNA test. That's the one that came up positive. But the results from all the other tests were negative and the dr thinks that it was a false positive.
