Fentanyl patch
 

Hello everybody. I switched from morphine to the 25mcg patch for my rsd. It seems to be working very well. I was wondering if anyone has advise on the best places to wear it, or general info on how it affects the person wearing it. When I google it, I just get cautions on how strong it is, not how it deals with pain.

Hi Morgan, I have a fent patch and on the 25mcg aswell. I keep it on the back of my shoulders, however because of my RSD it makes me sweat bad so often usally after the 2nd day it starts to fall off so i have to put tape around the edges to keep it on. I also noticed after the 2nd day the med starts to wear off, so i will ask my dr if we can change it every 48hrs instead of every 72. Also when you take a shower buy those big waterproof bandaids or the patch because it was like the med turned hard and it no longer had liqued in it because it had gotten wet. This med has defently been my saving grace pain wise, i now have some good days again!

The instructions say to wear it on the chest or on the arm. So I guess that's where you're supposed to wear it. LOL

You have to switch places tho -- don't keep putting it on the same place all the time. You'll get sores. Switch places on the chest & arm. God bless & take care. Hugs, Lee

The directions actually list 5 or 6 places to put the patch, my question was only in leu of the most affective place to put it in my condition. I also have rsd and have a high body temp. So the info on the chest really helped, I appreciate that because I also sweat a lot.
I have been on it a week and my bicep has been a good spot. The pharmacy that makes this particular brand is sending me free "lay overs" for the patch so that will be great.
It is a trial and error drug. I wasted 2 patches in a week putting them on wrong. I finally learned scotch tape would keep them on temporarily.

The #1 reason I love this site I because people can share info like this that the directions don't seem to state.

You are supposed to wear it on the chest or on the arm. Keep changing where on the chest you put it and where on the arm you put it. Otherwise you may get a sore. Also, make sure the area is clean. Don't put any lotion on the area where you're putting the patch.

You could possibly develop itchiing on the area. If you do, consult your doctor. He may tell you to put cortisone creasm on before you put the patch on. That should work. If it doesn't, consult your doctor.

Other than that, you shouldn't have any problems with it. Hopefully it will work for you. I was on the .75mcg. and it worked well. Best of luck. Hugs, Lee

I had best luck with the Duragesic (generic) patch. It is perfectly flat and I had no problem with break outs or losing them. I had major problems with name brand Fentanyl patch. Go figure. Best wishes.

The directions suggest more than those two locations. Medication absorbed in the skin on the back wouldn't differ much from medication absorbed through the flank or chest or neck.
My doctor told me put them where they're the most comfortable preferably upper torso.

My doctor said any place on the upper body was fine but recomended that I not use areas where the skin tended to be most tender. The upper arm worked well for me. Best wishes.

I learned that my inside bicep was a little too tender so i moved it out a little. And if need be, I can wrap my arm in an ace bandage during work so it'll stay snug. Until those dang lay overs arrive in the mail.

I've been on them for 5yrs. I wear mine on my shoulder bicep. I find that I can't sleep well if I put on a new one any time after morning of that day. I would also caution you to not take hot baths with it on and try not to go up in dosage as your body will get use to it. There is also the problem of the sweats, bad dreams, mood swings that come with the various dosage changes as you stop and start a new patch! There are days that I wish I hadn't started taking them at all because you find out rather quickly that you are now very dope dependent!! The alternative is insanity by pain!!!! I'm searching for alternative ways to treat the pain of my soft tissue nerve damage now the court battle is done. It's this stress and others that make dealing with pain that much harder I think. I stopped wearing them. Good pain killer but too many cons.

I started on the patch today. Weaning off of the Lyrica and Gabapentin.
I just about ruined this first one trying to take it off of the plastic rapper too carefully.
We will see how things go.

Are they the gel or matrix kind? If you work or move a lot, I would suggest getting the "lay overs" or tagaderm covers. They took my skin off when they did stick. Just not good for me, personally.
