Icu

Well guys, interestingly enough, I'm in my local hospital ICU with bilateral blood clots in both lungs. Crazy. Now they are thinking the pneumonia may be pleural effusion due to the clots. I have been these horrible shots in my stomach every 12 hours. I don't know how long it will take for the clots to disappear, but I hope it's soon, but then I will be on a drug called Coumadin for 6-9 months. We don't have a definitive answer why it happened, but consensus say feeling like poo lying in bed apparently caused a few DVTs thar broke and landed in my lungs. I believe divine intervention was at work because we were not planning to go to th hospital. Well, my husband felt something was wrong, and we went. If we waited a week or two, it might have been no more TK. Wow!! Crazy how things work out sometimes. Anyway, I should be out of icu today or tomorrow, and out of hospital, well hopefully Friday. At least no rsd pain the DVTs ultrasound was quite painful, but I made it. Oh, and due to mixed company, I dare not tell y'all my catheter story but it is a doozy.wow!!! Wow ridiculousness. But I'm here by the grace of god.

Oh wow, TK...first of all let me say that I'm SO glad you're still with us and that your hubbie did the wise thing and took you to the hospital! I'm so sorry that you're going through all this after your implant. I'm just hoping and praying that they get things all sorted out for you immediately, so you can get on with the business of healing and living your life. Don't try to rush your exit from the hospital until you're sure that you're ready to leave. Meanwhile, we will all be here praying for you and waiting to hear some good news!

Hugs, love, prayers...

So glad you are still with us. I know the treatment is rugged but it beats the alternative. ;) Try to behave and follow orders. Hopefully you will be home in your own surrounding soon. Prayers and best wishes.

Hi TK

I am so glad you went to the ER and gained treatment!!! DVTs!!! Ouch, and oh my goodness. Glad you went and did not stubborn it out at home like I might have done.

Oh, and that Lady Story you want to share with friends here about, all you have to do is go to the Private Messages area, click up and to the right of this screen where you see your login and you will see private messages. Compose a PM to a lady friend, then add up to nine other lady friends so they may share the grief and humor if there be humor! Arghhhh. Then you may share the story privately so as not to endure or cause embarrassment of one such as Andy or me. Yup.

BE SAFE, kknowing you are in our prayers.

I know there are guys with nasty catheter tales. It isn't just a girlie problem. ;) When my grandson was two, he had to go to the ER with a bad viral infection. The idiot nurse took 15 minutes getting the IV in and he has good veins that don't roll. When it came time to put in the cath. she poked that poor baby 10 times before I pushed her out of the cubicle and asked the doctor to call upstairs for a pediatric nurse with good aim. By this time, the little guy was hysterical and would not let anyone outside the family touch him. The doc got a pediatric nurse who took one look at him and said the poor kid had been abused in her opinion. She requested that they give him a mild sedative in the IV and let her rock him for about ten minutes and bond with him. By the time the meds kicked well, he was cooing, giggling and thought the new nurse was his best friend. Naturally, she slid that sucker in on the first try before the child knew what was going on.

BTW the last time I was hospitalized, the floor nurses were having trouble getting the cath in and I requested that they stop and get a pediatric nurse. They did it. End of problem.

Mark56 10-16-2012 06:38 PM

Yup

Yup, yup, yup, when I was hospitalized because at last the lower half of my body gave way because no surgeon would touch me since I am a lawyer [last doc's words, not mine] nothing was working at all. The compassion surgeon who said he would help me, then had an emergency situation with which to deal because non-functional bowel and bladder lead to a trip to heaven.... I was cathed and whatever else they did after getting me out and under because the pain was bad enough I really wanted something more permanent like that movie about lame horses....

I know guys have such stories, just wanted to give TK a private place to share hers with the gal folk.

Had Cath, will Travel,

I'm okay. I'm home and feeling better, really weak though. I'm still taking lovenox shots twice a day with home health and they monitor me. My scs is doing well, but I hardly think that I'm only 2 weeks out of revision surgery due to the blood clot scare.

Really gave me a mortality scare. RSD is crappy and painful, but it beats not getting to see my husband and kids for sure!!

Anyway, thanks for all the concern, love, prayers, and hugs!! I get to be on this lovely drug called Coumadin for quite some time. Luckily it's cheap.

Wish I could say that about the shots. They're expensive.

Well, I hope 'ol Sheldon stays put this time and keeps humming like he is supposed to.

Well, thanks for everything!!

TK
I'm so sorry all you've had to deal with. Haven't been on the site lately. I hope by now you're out of ICU and getting your strength back..
Coumidin is a very tricky blood thinner that needs to be monitored with regular blood tests. If I remember correctly you have to avoid certain foods too.
Thank goodness your husband got you to the ER quickly. Sometimes our spouse and family members know what's best for us.
Hope you're home soon Sandy

Rest well

OOh I'm sorry I missed this. I imagine the shots in your stomach are to stop more clots as they give them me when I'm in hospital for that reason.

Catheter .. I understand

You're in great humour and I applaud you for that.

Hugs from me

Recovery turtle style

Im doing better. Just Coumadin is not a drug that makes you feel chipper. Course my dr. Says it's glorified rat poison. My pt is 2.4 which is good. I just can't get past the sheer exhaustion. Course three weeks post surgery recovery and the blood clots just wear me out. I am now sporting TED hose full time (they're so sexy lol) and still have chest pain and the calf pain is horrible. Sheldon does not relieve it. My dr. Says that is pretty much a guarantee that the lung clots were DVTs from my legs. She said the hose should help. They don't. Just wanted to update everyone. Getting better, but it just seems to take time. I know I have FMLA for 12 weeks, but my drs. Are saying six months for full recovery. I am hoping they release me for work. I am a teacher, which does not seem physical, but it really is! Physically and mentally exhausting. So we shall see. Anyway, hope everyone else is well. I'm going to try school (my master's class tonight) in a wheelchair. I don't know if I will make it, but I will try it. Hope you are all as pain free as possible! Thanks again for continued prayers, hugs, and well wishes!

 :grouphug:

Really don't know what I would do without yalls encouragement!

TK
:)

Rrae 10-27-2012 11:21 PM

Thank you so much for your updates TK

I know it seems like your recovery is going slowly. You've been thru an incredible journey tho! I hope the chest pains have eased up?
Are you feeling a bit more energetic at this point?

Please take it real easy, eat right, and get the rest your body needs...
.... yes  I can be a bit 'motherly' at times....but hey, it makes me feel important :D

Thinking about you!!

I understand your concern about FMLA as I'll be running out of mine...

Hope things start looking up for you!

Mark56 10-31-2012 09:17 PM

Well now....

Can't have this FMLA running on us and Teachers pushed beyond limits..... so prayin we must do. Yeah, we do resort to that to help as well. T, thank you for your service as a teacher!! Much respect from this household, for we do know how education plays such a big role in the development of the society yet to unfold and be revealed.

Appreciative,
Mark56:grouphug:
