Oh man, Christmas was bad for my feet :(

Anyone else paying for over indulging in too many carbs???

I was a fairly good girl on thanksgiving, but yesterday I threw caution to the wind and ate my fill, including but not limited to many glorious sweets.

It tasted so good going down, but I am in pain today. The burning is amped up a hundred times, usually don't have any problems during the day time but today I am paying. And not just my feet. When i eat carbs it causes other problems...gas, that I don't have on a low carb diet, joint pain, tired, craving more carbs now, etc.

Anyone else paying the price?

mrsD 12-26-2012 03:55 PM

I think you ought to investigate Candida overgrowth.

Candida thrives on sugar/carbs and makes aldehydes which
cause paresthesias. The fact that Benfotiamine works for you I think is a hint. It also makes tons of GAS.

DawnD 12-26-2012 04:34 PM

Stacy,

I have the joint pain when I have my cycle. The Gas comes and goes :) I was very good yesterday thanks to the host of the party.. I look at carbs different now..I am still having trouble finding a quick snack as I love crackers but they dont love my feet.

Stacy2012 12-26-2012 05:52 PM

Yes I have had candida problems and cant seem to get rid of it regardless of the millions of things I have tried. I kinda go in spells where I try to get rid of it then give up and dont bother with it. :(

Dawn I have joint AND muscle pain right before I start my period!!!!! I always thought I was crazy, but it really does happen every month.

Good for you for being a good girl! Wish i had been. Now its been a horrid day craving more carbs and burning pain. :(

DawnD 12-26-2012 08:11 PM

Everything seems to hurt more during my cycle, I crave carbs and sugar all the time. Its been hard being with my boyfriend this past year as he eats and bakes alot of sweets. He is just staring to get that there are some places I just cant bring myself to go into, a donut shop and a bakery are the hardest places for me. One day at a time.:) He even stuffed my Christmas stocking with a bag of sugar free candy so maybe he now sees I cant have the sugar anymore

Sallysblooms 12-26-2012 09:04 PM

Sorry you had problems.:(

I have really improved so I am thankfully doing great. Supplements and diet my doctor have me on have slowly healed my nerves. My parents, hubby and family can't believe how well I have been doing with my Dysautonomia/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Supplements are the most amazing things, diet too of course.

Thankfully, no more cycles for me. SOOOO nice after hysterectomy and now all balanced on my bio identical hormones. They help with many things.

Dawn, since your boyfriend likes to cook he can really research healthful treats. My hubby and I love to cook and we now make sweets and food that are just as good as before we were more careful. Using coconut palm sugar, etc.. So many great ways to cook.

Stacy2012 12-26-2012 09:46 PM

Sally that is so awesome, I am so happy for you!!! It's good to hear when someone is doing so great!!!!

I am so thankful that my family is very supportive. I have lost 45 pds and have felt so much better in other ways than just pn that they love having me happier. Matter of fact my twin sons will not even eat sugar in front of me...mind you they do it behind my back lol but it's so sweet. Hubby gently asked me if I really wanted to splurge yesterday...I should have listened.

Sallysblooms 12-26-2012 10:38 PM

Well, just get back on your diet and I bet you will feel better. I hope you will very soon.:) Yes, great your family is good about it, so important.

DawnD 12-26-2012 11:33 PM

Sally,

So good to hear you are doing well as Stacy said its great to see someone doing well...gives me the drive to stick to it :).

Stacy2012 12-26-2012 11:40 PM

Dawn, you said you crave carbs all the time. How many carbs do you eat in a day? How long have you been doing it???

I found it was hard at the beginning because carbs are addictive, but once I got off them a couple weeks, I dont crave them anymore, and I feel so great that its motivation enuf to stick with it.

This was my first cheat with sugar in 6 months...and it was not worth it. :( It will take 3 days to get all the carbs out of my system and another few days to stop craving them, not to mention this gosh awful rebound headache.

I can occasionally cheat with healthy carbs but not like I did yesterday.

DawnD 12-27-2012 06:46 AM

Stacy,

I have never counted the full day of carbs but I try and keep it under 20g per meal, Most of those are healthy carbs. Eating Healthy is very expensive and its more work being tired most of the time and not wanting to cook when I came home from work makes it harder but I am pushing on. I will keep track over the weekend and see how many carbs I eat in a day.

Stacy2012 12-27-2012 09:45 AM

I dont count specifically anymore but basically can guess since I have done it long enough that I can pretty much guess my numbers. If I am gonna eat any carbs I have generally already eaten it a million times before and no the count.

So I don't get hung up on it, just eat the same ones over and over again, lol.

Dawn, there is a brand of crackers you might try. "Mary's Gone Crackers" brand is sol in many health food stores, as well as some supermarkets. They are tasty and gluten-free; that may satisfy your cravings without triggering the negatives. Anyway, it may be worth a try.
Good luck,
Steven

I like those crackers too, and they're especially good with a little hommus added on top!

Thanks for the info Steve

Stacy,

Today I had about 55-60 carbs today I feel thats about most days...maybe too much in one day?

Stacy2012 12-28-2012 10:27 PM

Well it's really about how you feel. If you do not have diabetes and your blood sugar is within normal ranges, then it's about how you feel. I can't remember if you said you checked your blood sugar numbers.

For me, that is too high. I keep mine around 30 for the whole day, give or take a few.

I think Sally keeps hers lower than that also, and she does not have diabetes, she does it because she feels better.

Some people notice they feel better when doing a low carb diet and their nueropathy feels better also.

I feel better all they way around. My pn is better, my joints dont ache, my pms, my over all physical and mental well being is better when I keep my carbs around 30 a day.

Sallysblooms 12-28-2012 10:53 PM

I don't count carbs too closely anymore, but I keep them low. I do check my blood sugar so I know what not to eat, like rice. I have very good healthy levels, no diabetes problems at all. I keep the levels for blood sugar at 75 to 95 or so for nerve health and healing. I don't check all the time but when I do they are good. I am sure they go higher at times. But not very high. I check at one hour, the higher level, before it begins to go down. Nerves need a steady glucose number, not high or low.

Stacy,

I do have type 2 Diabetes. I have it under control at this point. I am going to try and lower my carbs per day and see how that works. I have blood work to get done next week. :)

Stacy2012 12-28-2012 11:34 PM

Oh yes Dawn, try to lower your carbs I bet you will feel better. I know it is hard at first but the more you do it the easier it gets.

I cook in bulk, especially grilled chicked and other meat so I always have some on hand for meals and snacks. I will grill 25 pieces of chicked at one time. There is soooo much you can do with chicken.

Also, look for low carb fagita's , you can make mini pizza, chicken and garlic spinach alfredo pizza, Quisadilla's and so much more.

Also look for low carb pasta.

I really only do carbs for 1 meal a day and very few if any for other meals.

If you need any help shout out, I know sally has it under control even better than me and it sounds like she really does way better cooking than me, lol

I did about 30-35 carbs today and my feet dont burn as bad. I dont eat very much meat. A little bit of beef or some pork... I dont like Chicken or Turkey and I cant eat fish. I used to eat alot of breads and cheese But I have limited those and eat more veggies some fruit but not much.

Stacy2012 12-29-2012 10:14 PM

It might be difficult for you if you dont like meat. I love meat, cheese, and eggs, so I get along great.

Glad you felt better. My life is 90% better since giving up bread, pasta, and simple carbs and sticking to 30 grams a day.

I still eat rye bread and some wheat bread. I saw a post about different kinds of flours like coconut I will have to hit the health food store and look around.
The stores here make sugar free cakes and pies but they have too many carbs in them for my liking. My feet dont burn this morning just a slight dull ache I hope today will be another good day.

Stacy2012 12-30-2012 10:28 AM

I don't eat bread anymore, instead I use low carb fagita's. But I know they make lower carb bread.
