This is starting to suck

Been pretty irritated lately with frequency problems. I pee a lot and it's hard to hide the fact now. I'm always needing to take a leak and it is frustrating. I feel like a child not drinking before bedtime, no soda, no this or that, but still have to get up and pee twice a night. I am now getting worse tiredness and I feel awful. I toyed with the idea of wearing "you know what" just to avoid getting up every time, but I said no....they are not comfortable at all. I ended up getting a hand held mens urinal I can slip under there and pee... It works but I still have to come awake a bit to do it, but I don't have to walk to the bathroom. I feel more dragged these days I don't feel like riding the bike as much and just take the car, even if it's just a few miles.
I've also experienced a painful, full body throb? It felt like my entire body was moving like inflating and deflating with pain, but I was just sitting there.
I go to the doctors in a few days.

Sucks.

Eric, so sorry. I can't offer any advise just :hug::hug: I hope the doctor can help you. Maybe you should call to see if they want to do something for you sooner? Good luck either way.

tkrik 01-31-2013 04:51 PM

Sorry about this Eric. Do you have a bladder infection? That may be something to check in to and probably shouldn't wait until Tuesday. Burning while urinating or pain while urinating does not always happen with a bladder infection. I have one MS friend who the only way she knows she has a bladder infection is if she starts feeling awful and has more symptoms flare. She has been hospitalized many times due to not knowing she had a bladder infection.

I hope you start doing better soon and your dr. appointment goes well.

Jules A 01-31-2013 07:24 PM

I saw a urologist and she gave me information on bladder training which really helped me quite a bit. Unfortunately I still get up several times overnight to pee but at least I'm not a slave to the bathroom during the day quite as often as before.

Good luck.

SallyC 01-31-2013 07:53 PM

((((Eric))))), yep the draggyness , laziness, don't feel good
and going to the bathroom more often than usual, can and
may mean a UTI or bladder infection. Do you have a slight
fever? Some don't but I always get a little fever with a UTI.

Get the to the Doc's ASAP.

Snoopy 02-01-2013 06:55 AM

I know it sucks, Eric

As others have mentioned, you might have a Urinary Tract Infection which could account for the increase of frequency, feeling more 'dragged' and your body wide pain.

By your username I am assuming you are male ;) Have you considered a prostrate problem?

Either way it is time for you to see your PCP to get checked out.

By the way --- getting up once or twice a night to pee is quite common for me, but it's been that way all my life.

I'm going in tomorrow.

I had another dizziness episode just today. I don't know how I'd get a UTI...I don't use a catheter or anything(I keep clean)

I do feel awful though, pain in the eyes and headaches. That full body throb was new.... Hard to explain, but it felt sort of like shots of brief, throbbing(slightly painful) ...ummmm....can't think of a word:D repetitions?

I could feel the throbs in my back, ends of my fingers and just below my knees, but on the backside of them. I called my dad after that, because it was weird and scary lol.

Thanks, peeps....so nice to have this when you need it:hug:

I never had to get up at all before the last year. I never had problems like that. I had a little dic trickle once, but that was an easy fix. I'm 38 so it's not prostate, but I'm sure they'll check.

Several times? wow.. I'm at 2 or three times a night. I use a bedside urinal now, because I can't stand getting out of bed everytime. I know, but....whatever.

kicker 02-02-2013 07:38 AM

Starting? It sucks, period.

Vesicare helped me. Oxybutin makes my mouth a desert, but really helped. I use it when I'm going out and uncertain of available facilities. Doesn't do everything, but helps a lot. I sleep 8 hours now as Oxybutin helps enlarge bladder capacity. I take neither now. But step 1 sould be seeing a doctor about UTI.

I was DXed with MS in 02, last 4 in a chair. Everyone is different and
MS really strikes different things. Someone once said "If you've seen one case of MS you've seen one case". I am PPMS. This seems to affect brain stem more with walking involved. I have relatively few pain problems or cognitive issues. Doesn's mean with MS that tomorrow won't be different.

I do pee a lot, but am not incontinent. (Shoot, I'm also getting older) DH (a non-MSer) pees at @4:15 AM with me when I wake him up. Then I do back go bed for awhile, but we are early risers.

I try to drink water during day. Urine should be light colored.

kicker 02-02-2013 07:51 AM

UTI's don't just come from Catheter use. There can ba a variety of cause frim improper wiping (E colli stuff) to unknown. My GCP always tries to identify type of bacteris or is it blood in Urine (not uncommon) and after urine is sent to lab, sometimes changes my AB to a different one that can better "attack" bacteria.I saw a Urologist for a persistent problem and loved that doctor, so competent. I am not catherized and am self-toileting. )I can transfer by my self - no oone is here 8-6.

putterfit 02-03-2013 12:51 PM

Sucks

The sucks may be an understatement of this disease. Since you were at the docs yesterday hopefully you have some indication as to your having a UTI.

Over the past year and a half I have had several infections and some have put me in the hospital. Some of the times I had no indication that anything was wrong until I was too weak to get up. The infections would just wipe out all of my strength. As for prostate issues those can strike earlier than you think so do yourself a favor and have it checked.

EricP 02-08-2013 04:01 PM

Not good, not good at all.

It is a UTI apparently coming from a reduced immune system due to MS. got a bad one and never felt pain from it, but my bladder is numb, from MS...I don't know exactly WTF he told me. I'm on anti biotics and leaking badly. I had to get pads and the underwear this time around till it clears up.. My mom went with me and did the business of buying the depends BS... Should only be for a couple more days, but I feel like effing crap right now....We are at Arbys and I am trying to eat a sandwich running to the bathroom all the time. I have to drink tons of water with the antibiotics./

I guess the UTI was due from a weakening immune system.... or something.

It's just weird..... A month ago I was enjoying bike riding and now I had to lean on my 60 year old mother(because of the snow storm here and slipping), bags of "man-Pads" in the car plus talk of weakening immune systems.

I tried to stay tough and all that, but right now I am starting to become unglued. I'm not even 40 yet and hasn't been all that long since the DX. All I feel like doing is going home right now.

Thanks for being here, everyone...I think I'm going to be here more often now.

Snoopy 02-08-2013 04:15 PM

Sorry you have a UTI, Eric.

I would suspect the UTI is due to not empting your bladder completely (urine retention) which can be common for those with this disease. Getting a Urinary Tract Infection is not due to a weak immune system. If you are retaining urine then bacteria collects causing a UTI.

Those of us with MS do not have a weakened immune system but rather, a compromised (confused) immune system (MS attacks the Central Nervous System).

Don't lose heart, once the UTI clears up the leaking and urgency should improve. Leaking and urgency can be symptoms of the UTI.

Take care

That's what I though the said...I was not really following eveyrhting.
Mom left me here at Arbys so I could web while she does other stuff in town...I didn't feel like going around with her.

putterfit 02-10-2013 01:53 PM

Eric,

When we are dealing with difficult issues it is hard to the good. The good news is that you know what the problem is and you are taking medication that will clear it up. I would suggest that you discuss with your urologist now, ways that you can help empty your bladder more fully. This may help from developing more UTIs.

I know where you are coming from even though things did start happening to me until later in life. I wanted to take all my toys pack them up and stay in my room when I was hit with full on incontinence. I knew that if I went out of the house I would need to find a bathroom where I was. The other thing I knew was that as soon as the car got close to the house I would need to go. I cannot tell you the number of times that I did not make it. It was so hard to accept but I had to decide if I wanted to have a life and live it or stay home. Eventually I took to wearing depends and life went back to normal what ever that is.

Hang in there,

Mike

tkrik 02-10-2013 02:04 PM

So it was a bladder infection. :( I'm sorry your are having to deal with that but a day or two on the abx and you should be feeling better. Not 100% but better.

As Snoopy said, you may be retaining and that definitely can cause bladder infections. I'm a retainer too. The retention was not bad enough to warrant medication, although it was offered to me. I opted not to as I was not getting infections and such. I now take my time when going and don't ignore it when I just went and need to go again. It may be helpful to you to see a urologist. They can do some testing to find out how your bladder is functioning. A lot of MSers have a urologist as part of our team.

I hope you are feeling better.

Debbie D 02-10-2013 03:35 PM

Sorry you're experiencing this Eric. This disease takes and takes...we all have our carp to deal with, so we all feel your pain. Hang in there...and I would follow above posts advice & see if there are ways to help reduce retention.:hug:

SallyC 02-10-2013 08:21 PM

Feel better soon Eric. God bless your Mom.

yes. In the actual bladder itself.

Is it unusual to have bladder retraction/incontinence this early? My actual DX wasn't that long ago, but even back then I had a dribble problem that came and go. It just got worse this time. I researched the net and it says not everyone with MS has bladder problems, some never do, some have just cogitive problems while others have more of a physical problems. or both.

I am seeing a Urologist.

I have to see the Neuro next down in Syracuse at the upstate thing...I forgot the exact name. They have a rehab center up stairs that is cool... If anyone will be there next Thursday, please tell. I'd be real happy to meet you. I'll probably be there most the day.

Apparently the MS is effecting my bladder and causing retention....has to be the only explanation for getting a UTI. Two days ago I almost fell just standing there. I grabbed the glass part of the milk cooler in the store to balance out. I never had problems like that before a couple of weeks ago.

It's quite scary.....I know something is going on and or getting worse, but I never thought I would feel it this soon by the way everyone told me.

I haven't ridden my bike for weeks now...I just don't have any ambition to do it right now.

Sorry to write all sad like lol.... Don't worry I'm feeling a bit better, just a little mentally shocked ATM.

Thanks everyone....

-Eric

Is Dejebo still here? I don't see her ID on here as of late.

SallyC 02-11-2013 09:56 PM

She came back for awhile and left again?

Haven't seen her since before Christmas?

I feel ya ericp, am dealing with bladder issues/ incontinence myself the past week or so. Don't think I've ever had a bladder infection but been peeing myself while walking to the bathroom...

Judy2 02-18-2013 01:09 PM

Hi Eric! Just read this thread and wanted to add my two cents. Must be the season for UTI's. Apparently I'd had one for some time but didn't know it. Looking back, I did have "chills" quite often and I do have a catheter all the time now......MS for 37 years.....plus use powerchair. Have been on Cipro, but they're such horse-pills, difficult to swallow. The infection is clearing and sure hope yours is too.

clarkstar, it might be a good idea to see your PCP to have your urine checked for a UTI. That could explain not being able to make it to the bathroom.

Hi Clark!

I just got over a major UTi of the bladder interior and it sucked! You'll know if you have one, trust me. Same here....I usually dribbled down the leg and it got worse while on antibiotics and drinking tons of water to flush things out.

I went for a bike ride just yesterday and it was actually enjoyable, so.... guess things are good right now....still shook up on how fat I nose dived last month.
