Weather Thread for February
Looks like the NE is getting ready to be hit with a mega snow storm. I know we have many members here from the northeastern states so I hope you're all prepared. Plenty of water and non-perishable food. I was just thinking that a battery operated coffee pot would be a great thing to have. Do they even make them?? :o
Here in GA we're just getting rain. And next week is supposed to be a wash out. 4-6 inches they're predicting. But the temps are supposed to be in the 50's so no chance of ice. I pray everyone stays safe and your power stays on. |
|
Yes I heard about the snow storms that are suppose to hit in the
northeast by tomorrow morning. Egad, enough already. Hopefully, with the temps rising a bit this weekend, it will melt fast? Be careful out there my friends.:grouphug: Kell, I was going to say, if they can have a battery operated car, certainly they can have a little ole battery operated coffee maker.:) |

My thoughts and prayers are with you all up there in the NE. Be sure to stay in and keep warm it possible.
|
We're only supposed to get 8-10" where we are, but most of the state is looking at 12-20". My aunt near Hartford CT has a blizzard warning. I told her she needs to move farther north.
|
Not just the NE...US... We are snowed in here in Michigan.
|
I was watching the news this morning about the storm and it looks massive. Everyone please be safe.
|
we have major rain and winds here in VA
family in New England are expecting blizzard conditions and high winds with 2' snow. Yikes and they live in the rural areas. *I tried the battery op coffeepot a few years ago- it made coffee slowly and it never got above lukewarm. I prefer an oldfashioned perk pot for the stove/grill (think aluminum old fashioned kind, often sold in camp section) |
Jane, my sister is is Arlington, VA and my niece is in DC. I'm going to email her right now to make sure she's prepared. She's used to this kind of weather, though. She's lived in NY and Maine before. She just laughs at us Southerners and the panic we get! :o
|
What a crazy winter again!! Yesterday part of that storm system blew through the Chicago area-the north suburbs got 8", and we out in the western suburbs got about an inch with more rain. South areas had a lot of rain.
Be safe all of you in the path of this storm...it almost mimics Sandy's pattern... |
It seems the weather extremes are getting more frequent and stronger. Either that or I just have way too much time to notice what the weather is doing! :o
|
Did you know winter storms are getting names now? This one is Nemo. When did that start? Who got Alfred, Bob, Cathy, etc.?
|
she should be fine- just a crappy day IMO. (I work in DC a lot and just got off phone with our staff)
hope she reports the same! |

Apparently storms are named when the have sufficient wind to merit it. See below:
http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/weath...lone-names.htm TWC named this one, "Nemo," not a government agency. Local stations here in Boston (at least 2 of them) are calling it The Blizzard of 2013. Sparky is right. It has started here (Boston). No cars on the road in the city after 12N; no public transit of any kind after 3:30 PM. No cars on the roads of the entire state after 4PM. 18-24 inches of snow is expected, sometimes falling at 2-3 inches an hour w drifts up to 5 feet. Winds in excess of 75 mph. We will see. ANN |
|
All the post offices in Maine, NH and Vermont will be closed tomorrow. I can't remember that every happening before. Holy cow.
|
ANN, are you still with us?:hug:
|
Ann's electricity might be out because a lot of people's are. I'm in the middle of the storm right now in Central MA and our lights keep flickering. Expect we'll have no electricity soon -- ugh! DH picked up a case of Duraflames at the supermarket today. So I guess we're "all set" lol:). Everyone across the country stay safe with this crazy weather! Nora

Today will be nice here (60 degrees & sunny) but tomorrow the widespread and heavy rain comes in. They're saying between 5-6 inches will fall between Sunday and Tuesday. Boy, I'm glad the temps are so warm otherwise we'd be in for what the NE states are getting.
Praying for all people and animals in the path of this storm. :smileypray: |
I'm here Sally! Wow! what a gorgeous storm.
We got the 2 feet and drifts to heaven. No cars allowed yet- where would they go if they could even get out? We haven't heard any equipment at all this morning. We have all the utilities and plenty of food. I made a big pot of chili and another of brown rice yesterday. SO made salads and they are ready to eat. Cats are inside cats and very snug between us. We hope to be able to get out the front door and then swim through the snow to SO's house for tonight. There were such high winds last evening- over 80 mph on the Cape! Other than that- it's a blizzard- they happen. It's normal here. It is scary when we don't get one. Light snow, still. It's 20 with a windchill of 6. TV is an endless weather report. Did I mention we have chocolate? ANN |
Today east central Iowa is getting a rain/snow mix. I'm near Cedar Rapids and it is all rain here and 36F. Just a few miles north it is snowing.
|
I hope all of you noreasters are digging your way out alright and
getting your power back on. Here's hoping the thaw doesn't flood your home. Time for Spring now. I like the cold weather, but I'm ready for the birds and the bees now, preferably with no tornadoes or wild TStorms. No Summer, just Spring.:) |
I hope we actually get a Spring this year. Seems like last year we just went right into Summer. I love Spring.....the smell of freshly cut grass and pretty trees blooming. I'm so thankful for my new A/C. It'll get a real workout this Summer with our Georgia heat. My youngest DS is getting married this May....and it's an outdoor wedding. Praying for dry weather and reasonable temps.

We have a blizzard in the upper midwest.

Sally and all,
I have a small company hired to clear my snow but they can't be at everyone's house first. So, when two teenage girls came and asked to do the long driveway, I didn't think they were up to it but hired them to do the front steps and the walkway out to the street. They did a great job and I paid them extra. Later, a neighbor who is a marathoner, shoveled my front walk from property line to property line just for the exercise and the hearty, "Thank You." He noticed that the path the girls had done was not actually over the walk but over the lawn and low stone wall.:( So, he did a correct walk to the steps. SO got home from a walk to the neighborhood center to get newspapers and there were 2 walks to the steps with a 1 foot wide divider of snow between them. SO knocked down the divide and put that snow into the walk the girls had done. Anyone still with me? After dark we heard a truck out front and our paid crew was here to do the driveway and walkways around the house and patio. They also widened the front walk. So, yes, we are shoveled out by a cast of paid and volunteer workers- all well intended.:) ANN:eek: |
Where are you Kitt? Be careful out there.
|
Finally.......sunny weather and milder temps. This weekend is supposed to be really cold again. Low's in the 20's and highs in the 40's. Four months from now I'll be wishing for this weather!
Three of the outside kitties are flaked out on the patio....each in their own little sunbeam. They look completely content when they're basking in the sun. :circlelove: |
