head trauma leads to big problems
Hello everybody, I would be really appreciative if someone can give me information for my condition and what I have to do to feel better. So here is my story- I was hit in the nose 4 years ago. Untill that moment I was a very powerful and energetic 15 year old teenager I had extremely high sex drive but was not sexually active. After that punch in my nose I became a different person , I was very sad and depressed and melancholic and I had extremely low sex drive.. but I didn't realize that the key to the problem is that trauma in my head... Now I am 19 years old and I have problems with the eyesight, I can't sit in front of the computer very long because of the headache and my poor vision and I don't feel horny and don't have good sex drive. What is more my personality changed. I did MRI test and it showed a normal brain but there was a conflict between the nerve and the blood vessel in the 5th right part of the brain. I don't know what to do, are there any medications for this condition. What I have to do because many years passed since the trauma in the head and I still have low sex drive and problems with the memory and vision(especially peripheral). I read about the pituary gland and the symptoms were exactly what I felt ( low sex drive , headache general fatigue, problems with the peripheral vision)but the MRI and the hormone test showed nothing wrong with the pituary gland. Can you tell me something, THANk you ! Oh I missed one strange thing, after the punch in the nose 2 days passed and then I had black eyes, the black eyes didn't show in the morning after the trauma but ot the second morning. THANKS :)

Thug,
Welcome to NeuroTalk. Sorry to hear of your struggles. Your symptoms sound like they can be due to a head injury. When did you have the MRI ? It sounds like you needed a CT scan at 72 hours after the injury. That is past so now we need to find a way to identify what that injury was and if there is anything that can be done. What kinds of doctors have you been examined by? How much damaged did you have from the hit to your nose? Did it break your nose? Have you been checked out by an Ear Nose and Throat Specialist for injuries in your sinuses? Besides sex, what other symptoms are your biggest struggles? |
The hit in the nose was hard but the ear nose doctor said my nose was not broken. My father insisted on making a CT because he has read that hits in the head can be very dangerous not immediately after the incident but after years (in fact he was right because in my case the symptoms go on). So we didn't make a CT. The strange thing about that hit was that in the first morning after the hit, my nose were swelled but I didn't have black eyes. But on the second morning I had two black eyes. My symptoms were not so severe, I didn't have extremely severe headaches. I became depressed and introverted, I began to feel weeker and sleepy. My vision was poorer( especially peripherical), my memory was not the same I did not feel as inteligent as i felt before. After year and a half I had the first conundrum- I couldn't have sex because I didn't have sex drive and I could not make an erection which stays for long. What is more if my penis became hard I was ejaculating 15 20 seconds after stimulation. I remember my experience with women before the trauma... I felt very horny and powerful. After 2 years and a half I felt that after I ejaculate I feel very tired and unfocused, my vision was too affected after ejaculation... STRANGE.. From all the stuff I have read so far I found out that the symptoms of a pituary gland problem matched the best in my case... especially with the low sex drive and the poor peripheral vision, But the MRI which i made 2 months ago( this makes 4 years after the incident) didn't show anything wrong with the pituary gland( so my hope fleed) But it showed a conflict between a nerve and a blood vessel in the 5th parth of the brain. Basically, this is my story... strange symptoms which are not extremely severe but are a deterrent for my normal life especially the sexual problem... I WANT CHILDREN !! :) :D

It sounds like you would benefit from a thorough exam by a NeuroUrologist.
Are you taking any medicines or supplements, herbs, etc. ? I don't understand what you mean by the 5th part of the brain. So, do you have a wife yet? There are a variety of systems for improving virility. I would not worry about the fertility side unless you are actively trying to conceive. If so, talk with the urologist. But, you are only 19. Where do you live? Maybe we can find a referral for you. A Neuro-Opthalmologist would be a good way to check out your vision issues. How is your blood pressure and heart condition? You will be surprised how that can effect you symptoms. |
I forgot to mention that the neurologist said that there is a sinus problem. No I don't have a wife but I really want to have a girlfriend and to lead a normal sexual life... But I can't even drive a car because of my poor vision and low reactions. So if we accept that this hit to the nose has done a damage to my brain and all those symptoms prove it, can I do something to improve my normal brain activity and health. For example this conflict between the blood vessel and the nerve( about the part of the brain I think that the brain is divided in different parts or regions i don't know, and this conflict is in one of these parts) Can i take medications to cure it ? and about those nasal problems can I do something to reduce the symptoms and to go back to normal life ?

and about the blood pressure and heart condition. I have problems with the thyroid gland before the trauma and soon they found a cyst on the thyroid and low TSH which is connected with the heart. But I am sure that the main cause of my sexual problems is the sex drive which comes from the brain. Thank you for your responses :)

I think you are getting way ahead of yourself. The vision and other functional issues should be pursued as the priority. The sexual issues may just get better if you can get help with the vision and reaction times. There are no medications that cure brain injuries.
But, you don't even know what kind of injury you have. Stop complaining about the sexual problems and it may make it easier to get a doctor to pay attention to the other problems. You have not answered any of my other questions. It would help if you tried to answer them. |
T-angel IMO your obvious desire for a sexual relation indicates a normal sex drive. What you may be experiencing is a dysfunction. A degreased sexual drive is often indicated by a complete like of desire to even engage in sex.
List which doctors you have seen and what they said. List the medications you are on or have tried. List your typical daily routine. We will help all we can but those things are important. Without them you may get confusing and pointless advice. |

3. Yes I have problems with the heart which are due to the thyroid gland problem. 4. I don't take any medications connected with the brain trauma, I take only Oxybor forte which is a food supplement and antioxydant (for the thyroid gland) 5. I live in Europe not in the USA Thanks for responding. you asked me about any sinus problems, so If there are sinus problems, can the symptoms which I feel be due to the sinus problem ? |

Thug,
I think you need to be seen by a neuro-psychiatrist. It sounds like you may be struggling with an anxiety disorder such as OCD. Playing football (soccer) is a risk, especially if you head the ball. Your referencing something on the MRI leaves me confused. What did the MRI report say? It sounds like you are trying to live a very busy life. This can be draining on your hormonal functions. Have you had a Testosterone test? You may have low T. I suggest you start my vitamin regimen. I just top posted it. Get your brain in good nutritional health so it can tolerate more stress. The B-12, B-50 complex, D3, and high potency multi-vitamin should be a minimum. Try to let go of the sexual issues. Get a stable brain health foundation over the next month or two then see how the sex drive works. There is more to life than being a sex machine. Some of us need specific drugs to function daily. These drugs can virtually eliminate sexual functions. We make do with these dysfunctions for the other benefits of the drug. (SSRI's) You may also just be going through a hormonal change where your T is slowing down. As we age, these hormone fluctuate. They say 18 is the peak for sexual drive. It statistically lasts until 25 years old then decreases over the years. |
The MRI showed nothing wrong with the brain I mean ( tumors or some benign or malign forms in the brain), but the doctor said there was a blood vessel that was pressing a nerve and this causes blood vessel-nerve conflict. As far as I understood his explanation, this was the case. The doctors who conducted the test asked me after the MRI if I have pain in the front of my face. I said that I do not feel pain but I forgot to mention them about the hit in the nose , because then me and my doctor thought it was a pituary gland problem.Because they were just people who conduct the MRI test, they told me that my neurologist will tell me what to do. But my neurologist said nothing... That's why I wonder what to do about this blood-vessel conflict.
I feel calm about this I just want to improve my health, so I don't think I have this disorder that you mentioned :) . I am not anxious or something about. I want to tell you everything that I feel in order to give me a useful advice, that's why I am talking about all those different stuff. So, as far as I understood I should take vitamins in order to improve my brain function. okey THanks for this advice. Don't get me wrong I don't want to be just a sex machine, I just illustrate how different I was before the trauma :) I appreciate the other important things in life. My testosterone level is normal, my hormones are in the norm. About the hit in the nose, what should I do. You said something about the sinus, what are the symptoms of it ? Are there complications with the vision, or something else ? If the pressure in the head is high, what can be done :? Thank you for your answers. |
If your health care system does not have a treatment for this blood vessel/nerve conflict, it sounds like you are just stuck with this condition.
A blood vessel will respond to high blood pressure so keeping your BP at safe levels is important. Have you taken your blood pressure? You should do it anytime your symptoms increase. Your vision problem should be treated. A Neuro-Ophthalmologist will be a good choice. There are also some vision therapies that may help. |
Mark is dead one with addressing your health issues regarding your brain. He is very informed and knowledgeable and I have found his advice valuable. It is common for a person suffering PCS to feel different. I told the therapists I was seeing that it was like this. I look in the mirror and the face is the same but deep down my intelligence, the person I was is different than the one I am now. I look the same but I feel totally different.
I know some of it is processing speed deficiency pre-injury I was very high average intelligence, post injury has three deficits that make learning VERY difficult and memory is now a big issue. I have real difficulty reconciling pre and post. I want to go back to the way I was but I am in recovery for 12 to 18 months. So all I can do now is cope. Like you my sexual relationship has changed but I think a lot of that is because I am frequently stressed out. The muscles that allow for an erection must relax to allow blood to enter the penis. If you can not relax, well you get the idea. I am much older so my time as a young man is long past. But if it helps I did not hit my sexual prime until I was 24. IMO you have plenty of time. Address your health issues and I think the rest will take care of itself.:) |
Thank you for the useful pieces of advice. Now i plan to see an opthamologist and a ear nose doctor in order to find out if there are any problems with my nose and eyes, or something that presses the brain. I will show them the MRI result and tell them what my symptoms are.. and destiny will show :) This is the last thing that I can do in order to find out if the situation in which I am can be overcome. So I should begin to take vitamins for the brain too. Is it possible to tell me exactly what is healthy to do. I will post again if there are any results from the doctors. And one last question- Can a doctor see through eyes if there is anything wrong with the brain for the vision problem particularly? Thank you for your useful pieces of advice. I hope you will get better too! Cause you know...got one life to live:)

When you see any Dr. make sure they explain in terms you can understand. It can be intimidating because of all the Dr speak, but you deserve to understand. I have learned a few things over the years which sound scary but really are not. I.E. I have a left branch bundle blockage on my heart. It is a nerve issue. It is genetic but does not effect me. I was born with one kidney. The nerves that leave my L-4 vertebrae are crossed. These are all defects of my body but do not cause me any health issues that I know of.
It may help if you write down what the Dr. tells you as memory is frequently affected by PCS. Multimodal learning is a strategy I am going to have to use to keep my memory deficit for causing issues with anxiety from forgetting. You may very well benefit from this same strategy. Knowing clearly can help reduce anxiety and help you feel like you have a better handle on things. Even if they are not quite the way we want them. |
Guys , can you tell me about the sinus, because Mark asked me in the beginning. Why you asked me if there is a sinus problem caused by the hit?
Because I think that this situation with the late black eyes( not on the first morning after the hit, but on the second)there is something wrong with it. Because black eyes is caused by blood under the skin, so my blood was stuck somewhere after the hit, and after 2 days makes its way under the eyes. And my last question is- what means if I see stars when I look at the sky(during the day when it is not dark, nor real stars :D) all the time. They look like very little spot lights which are moving in circles? I have this all the time and sometimes I even see it if I look in the room. If it is possible to answer all of my questions I would be thankful. |
I vaguely remember something about those raccoon eyes. It can indicate an issue with damage in the area of your sinuses. Hopefully someone will give you a more definitive answer. With regard to stars this is a common visual symptom be sure to late your doctor know and empasize it is something you would like to be addressed. It is frequently accompanied by other visual symptoms you may not be noticing. Convergence and tracking issues are common problems and can result in frequent, even daily headaches. A neuro-opthamologist can diagnose and treat those issues.
Headaches are one of the symptoms that often have a root cause and it is abhorrent when a Dr will not treat for them. Even with out a root cause there is often treatment to help relieve them. Icing the neck, over the counter meds, or prescription meds are available. Spine adjustments and other types of therapies often help. A decent doctor will identify areas to target and help get the relief you need. |
Raccoon eyes or bruising around both eyes is a classic indication of basilar skull fracture. This was posted by night nurse and is worth bringing up with your dr.

So it is possible, that this hit in the nose has made a fracture to the front of my face, and the two black eyes are indicators of it. Maybe after that there were complications with the sinus. And you mean that all these events may have caused my vision problems. Thank you very much for this useful information! Can you give me the source where it was written about those basilar skull fractures. Thank you one more time :) |
Hey Guys, I read about basilar skull fractures and there was written that it can cause vision, problems, sexual problems, and nerve damages. I think that like Sherlock Holmes I have found a track(with your help). So methaporically said you were my Dr. Wattson :D. I will go to a doctor and see if there is something that can be done about my condition. I will see if there are sinus problems and other stuff. Thank you very much for the information and the support. I will post as soon as I get some results.

Hey guys, I discovered what does "blood-nerve vessel conflict in the 5th right part of the brain means". The nerve in the 5th right part of the brain is the nerve that connects the brain with the facial muscles in the right part of the face. So the blood vessel supress the nerve and it causes problems. I have wondered why my right eyebrow is lower than the left one and my right eye is a little bit more "sleepy" than the left one like an insult damage. So this is a proof that after the hit in the nose a damage to some nerves in my brain occurred. So I have to go to a neuro-surgeon to talk about this problem, because I think that this nerve is maybe close to the eye nerves which are damaged too because I can't see with the peripherical eyesight. So it must have been a basiliar skull fracture because I read that blood enters and suppress nerves in the brain and it can affect the eyesight the hearing and facial muscles..if those nerves are close to the pituary gland it can be assumed that the blood damaged it too and that explains all the symptoms including the sexual problems I have because . Thank you for your advice I hope that I will find all the reasons for the problems I have and solve them. I will write when I have other information and evidence. And what do you think about my assumptions ?

I think it maks sense. The cranial nervs are often damaged in a trauma incident. I have problems from behind the right eye to the roof of my mouth and my tongue. That is one specific cranial nerve. Others go different places. It makes sense.

Thugangel,
Quick answer...the vestibular therapist said that it is important to gradually look up as one is walking - as you can without feeling too awful -- and fixate on a tree or something as you are walking toward it. This is retraining the brain. Do it is a safe place. I find it hard, but am trying to do it. When you are ready, they also suggest going into a supermarket with lots of time and slowly go up the aisle looking for items. Great vestibular therapy. Still hard for me but I am improving. Have you had your vision checked by a neuro opthamologist or behavioural optometrist? Also check your vestibular system. It is all connected and controlled by the brain stem and cranial nerves. Hard to get an accurate diagnosis but SO important in order to get the rit rehab plan in place! Take care. |
Quote:
No , I have not been to neuro-ophthalmologist nor to the other doctors you have mentioned. I must go and consult with those professionals. Yes it is hard to find out the problems and their treatment . So if a cranial nerve is damaged it can result in problems with the vision and the vestibular system is that what you are saying? And what those doctors check I mean for example the neuro ophthalmologist what he did, did he check you with pieces of technology or the movement of the eyes , and how the vestibular system is checked ?Excuse me if I want too much information but you have gone through this and your advice can be useful. Thank you |
