Goodness, what timing is so right.

Hoping it will pass fast. Get some Vit. C in you and whatever else usually
works.

my regular doctors office is closed due to mardi gras here...even the post doesn't deliver and banks are closed. no trash pick up which I forgot about so our bins are at the road a day early.
I am thinking about trying a walk in clinic. want to nip this in the bud it has not reached my lungs yet so maybe we can prevent that with an early intervention.

hey sweetie

Dear Bizi,

sorry you are feeling bad. remember though if it is viral they won't give you antibiotics anyway, but i can understand your wanting to be seen just in case.

you might try the spiced tea / spiced lemonade recipe i posted for mari some time ago. the spices used are antimicrobial, antibacterial & antiviral. you should have about 3 cups in one day.

as the base, you can use plain water (with lemon and honey added at the end), regular tea, or an herbal infusion. i sometimes use a red fruit infusion (eg red zinger) as the base, as those are rich in vitamin C - in which case i skip the lemon.

if you don't have all of the spices listed, tell me what spices you do have and i can suggest an alternative.

love and healing vibes to you :circlelove:

It is odd, I had before the cruise a dull headache on my right side of my head. when I was on the cruise I never noticed it at all. Now that I have returned the headache has returned....interesting! just a cough left of my sickness. My poor sister's has been dragging on for over a month and her coughing fits are scarey. She has an inhaler if it gets bad.
I am so glad that I went to the walk in clinic.

Dmom3005 02-19-2013 11:03 AM

Bizi

Does she have asthma or has she been seen by a asthma doctor for the coughing. Because there is a form of coughing asthma. Which is what I have. And it is very scarey. I know when mine starts its not easy to listen to for others.

I have gotten used to it over the years. But when it got really bad a few years ago it took a lot to get it under control.

Donna:grouphug::hug:

bizi 02-19-2013 11:05 AM

She is 53 and never had this before...her doctor insists it is allergies.
hOpfully yours is under control!
bizi

Dmom3005 02-19-2013 11:08 AM

Yes Bizi right now mine is under control.

Mine only comes once in a while.

But it was out of control just the once. And it took a long time
to get it under control. My doctor couldn't get it under control
and chose to send me to a specialist to see why.

They still wonder about the shortness of breath with all my walking,
but I've just chalked it up to me. I think it runs in my family.

Good to see your home Bizi, can't wait to read about your trip. The inhaler may not be enough for your sister, she sounds like a dose of steroids, z pack and breathing treatment would help.
I would get a chest X-ray too. It can turn into pneumonia or pleurisy.

As we get older need to stay on top of health things we brushed aside when younger. Sending prayers she gets better soon.
Glad you are back on soil, oh do you think sea level or air pressure from systems is affecting your head pain? My asthma. Always acts up and sinus pain when I travel south. Might be resistant infection in your sinus, maybe X-ray could show that.
Hope you both are better soon!
Hugs
Di

waves 02-19-2013 07:16 PM

a couple of things

Dear Bizi

I think the unilateral mild headache that was there before, gone during your time away, and back now could be due to a combination of your sickness and the weather. difference in air temp, pressure and humidity. definitely being near the sea can be decongesting and ease the sinues due to airborne microparticles of salt. Also i'm thinking the air pressure was lower probably in Mexico and over the water.

glad you are doing ok.
---------------------------------------------------
I hope your sister starts to feel better soon. if she has been sick for a long time it is fairly normal to have bronchial hypersensitivity, but she may need a course of treatment for that, rather than an as-needed inhaler. i hope your sis will go back to the doctor. he should be sensitive to the fact the cough is not remitting, and like Di said we don't want her to end up with chronic bronchitis or other nasties. I would think he'd want to check her out to see if she is still sick and in what way. If she is otherwise ok, I'd at least expect him to offer better tx for the cough.

as to the possibility of asthma - is it is possible to become asthmatic (any form) at any age. With cough-variant asthma, spirometry and auscultation may be normal - one may not present wheezing, tightness, or shortness of breath as most often occurs with regular asthma.

Cough-variant asthma can manifest due to "just allergies." i have always been told my cough was due to allergies but i've yet to find another person with the cavernous sounding LOUD cough i get when my allergies act up. in recent years i've become more sensitive and get it due to irritants, pollutants, and even very cold air. When i get that cough, it scares the pants off of people.

I don't know if i have cough-variant asthma still - I wish i had followed up with the pulmonologist the year when i got really bad off. The last time the doc gave me just steroids for the nebulizer - after doing the # days he said with NO benefit AT ALL, I repeated the tx course but added some leftover albuterol and the combination worked. (The steroids are still necessary to reduce inflammation, epecially for post-illness hypersensitivity.)

anyway.... take care sweetie.

love

~ waves ~ p.s. how is Jeff holding up, btw?

Mari 02-19-2013 08:22 PM

Bizi,

I hope that the two of you have complete recoveries.
Keep taking care.
