Weak hands
I was wondering if anyone else has trouble with very weak hands. I have been having very weak hands & specially fingers. I can barely pick things up, make a fist, button a shirt, use television remote etc. they also kind of want to go into a lobster claw like shape. Plus I can't seem to touch my fingertips with my thumbs. It's just one of the more frustrating things going on now.

When I am extremely weak, my hands are like you describe.

My hands do that sometimes. It is very frustrating when they act up when I am playing my guitar. My right hand will do the claw thing and make it where I can't finger pick. Sometimes I can't chord properly. Other times I do just fine. I never trust my hands alone to carry my instrument. If I carry it myself, I always use the strap. Usually my husband sets up my stuff and puts the guitar in my hands. I am so afraid that I will drop it.

Yeah, I can't play any of my guitars lately. I keep dropping the pick, plus I don't have any strength in my fretting hand right now. My main guitars have strap-locks on them so I don't have to worry about dropping them. I did get to play with our old band last month. I just had to rest after a couple of songs. I also get into Astronomy & Astrophotography. I need to get a utility wagon because the telescope & accessories are all in large hard cases that's hard for me to carry out now. It just takes me a little longer to set-up now.

Mine were awful when I got hospitalized.. My son was young and I couldn't hold him, hold a fork, text on my cell phone. I was in tears when I was trying to take a band aid off my kiddo one day and i coudlnt' grasp it.. i tried for about 5 minutes.. it was so awful. I couldnt' even undo the velcro of a diaper.. after the 2nd IVIG i got my hands back.. but when its time for IVIG I get jello fingers again, but milder than when I crashed

What really sucks is when I try to open my bottle of pyridostigmine (mestinon) and can't, but thankfully that doesn't happen often.

Hi - I had all what you describe over a period of about 3 years including where fingers were unable to turn more than a couple of pages of a newspaper. At worst I was no longer able to tune my guitar or strum it for longer than 15 seconds. Plucking was out of the question as it fatigued the whole hand immediately. Trying to pull one small weed between finger and thumb would also fatigue the whole hand - and then the neck, legs, trunk muscles would all crash just moments after. I had trouble zipping up my own jacket and taking things in and out of my pockets. I could type only one sentence on a computer before fingers, hands and arms lost their strength. The doctor questioned if I liked my job or not. At least luckily my employers were a little smarter and made things as easy as possible for me at the workplace.
The hardest action of all was to have to stretch anything using the hands and with arms away from the body - What a nightmare. Hopefully you get your results soon and that the treatment helps :) |
Weak hands was one of the reasons I had to retire - I've been an accountant for 40 years and the majority of my work was done on a computer. My fingers weren't strong enough to press down the computer keys (and we all know how hard have you have to press them down - not!) I still have problems later in the day, but because I'm not on the computer all day, they work most of the time.

I have the same problem
I have the same problem earlier this week it was so bad I almost dropped my 6 month old daughter. Very frustrating I have to rely on my family a lot to take care of her because of my MG. Wish they could just find a cure :( sure we all do.

Hand weakness was one of my first symptoms. It is really hard because when your hands don't work, you just can't do much of anything. I drop everything, can't squeeze anything like toothpaste or shampoo bottles, can't open jars, doors, pull up my own pants half the time, washing hair is hard to impossible, it basically affects everything.
|
yes, i get vary weak hands. It happens anytime too, although especially when it's coming closer to that time of month. I can't even type without my fingers and hands weakening. I used to love writing too...MG is a life changer I can say that for sure.

My big arm and leg muscles are effected first. It is a really bad day when the hands and ankles/feet are affected. But the other day I went to the doc and had the worst time trying to get my medical card out. My hands were not cooperating at all.
