If you tried Cymbalta for your RSD how did it work for you?

What was it prescribed for? Pain? Sleep?

Thanks in advance for the help. My Dr. might put me on it for headaches, but I thought that some of you here with RSD took it for your RSD? And I was thinking maybe it might help the RSD as well?

Hi Vanessa, I was given cymbalta by my pm doctor. I was told that it would help with the nerve pain without the side effects that lyrica and neurontin have. I didn't make it past the first dose. I was up all night shivering plus it made me very drowsy. It didn't work for me but I have spoken with others here who have had good results with it. I hope it will work for you. Jeannie

cymbalta has been discussed here on this site a number of times so for more info look in the archives, but i was given it in addition to my usual neurontin and by the third day was on a cloud somewhere ... oh i was comfortable alright but could not even get out of bed. i really should have been taken to the hospital, i was that bad but my husband did not realize it. it wore off. there have been writing on it more recently stating that you should not take it with neurontin, and i would think also not with topamaz or lyrica since they are similar, but ask a pharmacist to check for info on combining your meds.
i think there was one person who said it worked for them.
i was actually tempted to take it again because i felt so comfortable ... so i put it down the toilet. it was the most pain free days i ever had.

Been on Cymbalta

I was on cymbalta when it was first released. Unfortunatley it did nothing to help the pain even at the highest doses. However, I am not a good person to report on drugs I guess as I have taken about 40 pain meds at higest doses with no relief. It really is depressing to live in constant agony with no relief. Only sleep gets me away from the pain.
Now that I fell on Sat. I am even worse.

I would really like to try it (especially after hearing your words on it, Mark!), but I am not sure if my Dr is going to try it afterall (I think she might have decided against it). :Sigh:

I know that everyone has different experiences with each of these drugs, but it sounds like something worth checking out.

Try It, You'll Like It

I take two capsules at 60 mg once a day! Now keep in mind that I am not pain free every day because I have other issues as well. Peripheral Neuropethy (sp) and severe all over arthritis that I have to combat as well. But when those are under control and I am just dealing with the pains of RSD the Cymbalta kicks its butt. Plus it does wonders for my depression.

I am sure that it is different for everyone. Some like it, some don't.

I have been on many and have found this one to be my happy medium. :)

Just wondering where you found the writing on this topic? Because I would be interested in it. I am taking lyrica, neurontin and cymbalta now. Thanks.

The cymbalta is working somewhat for my migraines- yay! As far as RSD pain- I have not noticed it working for that! :(

hi, i had read about not mixing cymbalta and neurontin on a cymbalta info page, not sure if it was wed md or the rx page but my pharmacist agreed and when i went for mt last doctor's visit my doctor mentioned it to me. i do not believe it was a known fact when cymbalta first came out because i know when i used it i had read a lot on it first and never saw it. i think it is one of those things that they 'figured' out as people used it. and lyrica too ... whew. that is a lot of medication. i do hope it is helping you. joan

Hooray, hooray, something that helps with your migraines! I'm so glad that there is something you can take that actually lessens your pain (at least one type of pain). Definitely calls for a party! (a soft, quiet party)

Drug interactions

I just wanted to put a link in here to a page I find extremely helpful. It's by Medscape, a division of WebMD. It's a great way to find out if any of the drugs you are taking will cause you any problems. It takes a few minutes, as you have to enter ALL the meds you are taking. I found several problems with our meds. As I have aids and epilepsy as well as the rsd, I take way too many meds, and any time they add a new one I use this page. Our Dr. uses the same pda that everyone else does, to check for interactions, but even IT didn't catch these problems.

im on it now. i dont think it really helps with my symptoms... it does with the depression from it though...
