2 years ago at the age of 55, my brother was approved for SSDI at the initial application process = 4 months.
Disability: back issues. |

Here.....or in the history of the SSA ?
My sil got her approval about 1 month after she applied. She was a true warrior who continued to work for a year after her dx with stage IV breast cancer with mets to the liver. After multiple rounds of chemo and her second brain surgery for further mets to the brain, she had to stop working. She passed away last summer. :( My approval took 3 years. I didn't start the process until I had already been unable to work for over a year because I was hopeful that treatment might have helped me. |
my lawyer sent me to the office to apply,i walked out that same day approved.how i knew:confused:..the last question they asked me in the office is"do you have your bank routing#acct:eek::eek:

Dont pay a lawyer.
2 months for me, I have Parkinson's. A lot of states have state provided/funded advocates that do all the work for you and I mean all of it! Check with your local Mental Health center, or Vocational Rehab, maybe Hospice to find advocates that do not charge.
Peace BP with PD since 33 in 2003, no meds and dying naturally.... |
Approved quickly
2 1/2 months for Bipolar Disorder II. Two shorts reviews. I'm over 60 now and was due for a review a couple years ago. I guess they're just going to let me slide.

SSDI after working partime for 20 years
have alot of you people worked par time for many years and were still able to get a decent amount awarded for SSDI?
|
the thing i dont understand is, how do some people who have never worked get disability with just their medical problems..I was told I needed 28 more credits to get approved..now that is not possible..I am 51 and cannot do some of these jobs because of my back problems and osteoarthritis in my knees, ankles, hips and back..I guess somethings we are never supposed to understand..My brother gets it.He got hurt in an auto accident and believe me he has never worked..lol

I don't know what your brother's situation is or what benefit he is receiving. It is possible to qualify for SSDI before age 22 on a parent's work record. It also takes fewer work credits to qualify for SSDI when someone becomes disabled on their own work record when they're very young. |

Social Security Disability Insurance may be the disability income that your husband is getting based on his work history. When you are age 62, you could get a portion of his benefit if you file a retirement claim. That is a long time. It is too bad that you and he didn't figure out how these programs worked before you became disabled because you may not have decided to stay out of the work force. You are not the first middle income stay at home mom who discovered that there is no disability program for you. |

Your brother's $650 payment is in the correct range to be a SSI payment, rather than a SSDI payment.
If he's 42 now and the accident about 15 years ago, he would have been approximately 27 then. The number of quarters he had in (most likely under 40 unless he was working continuously from 17 on) and what his earnings were would contribute to his SSDI rate. As low as his rate is (SSI range) it looks like he didn't work much before his accident if this is his SSDI rate. |
I applied this past February and received the notice a week ago I was approved. So about four months. Other than the Adult Functionality Report, it was actually very easy and painless.

Two months
I was approved for SSI within two months, then I was removed from SSI when I received an inheritance. Now I've fought for four years to get my SSDI & still haven't won. The fact I received SSI for six years is now not even considered, because they keep using my last date insured against me. I've even shown proof I was disabled well before my last date insured with Drs backing it up. Now they are allowing me to send in more evidence, but I fear nothing will ever please them. The fact they are now going to allow more evidence after my case was closed is a miracle!! I think they really had no other choice when I showed them the judge never spoke to me, the rehab person never spoke to me, and my lawyer thought I was applying for SSI instead of SSDI.
This all happened even after the ALJ judge denied me & appeals board denied me. When I asked the appeals board to show me how I received a fair hearing they couldn't show me this & they knew it. I explained to them at this point I'll just represent myself. I don't want to talk to another lawyer about my case; the minute they hear past the insured date they say NO. Not one lawyer would even bother doing what I did to show I didn't receive a fair hearing & ALL my evidence was never even looked at. |

So, you're now claiming you should have received SSDI years ago? That will be near impossible, that's why attorneys refused to take your case. |

Did you see my other posting how I'm representing myself now, and that the appeals board has reopened my case & allowing me to send in more evidence? I was told by others this would also be impossible, but I did it!!!:) Someone else filled out the paperwork for me when I applied for SSDI, and I have a letter from another judge who used to work for the social security office saying the social security office made an error as they are capable of doing. I have found other cases by searching in a law library of cases won even many years after the last insured date. Yes, it can be done, don't fool yourself. I'm happy attorneys refused to take my case, of course they only take the easiest & refuse to even listen or use their brains to weigh all the facts. With what I know now I could win many cases. They know they'll win 50% of them without even doing any work. There really is no need for your negativity, I ignore anyone who has given me that & have proceeded on & look where I'm at today. A place many said I'd never get to. I couldn't be happier!! The odds of someone being denied at the ALJ hearing, then being denied from the appeals board, & then having them overturn that like I did all on my own are very rare.(Look it up) :D With the two attorneys I worked with, who did nothing, I don't think social security attorneys are real bright. Again, no need to be negative, don't ruin it for others who are having problems. They could learn something from me & be helped. I haven't posted on this board in a long time due to negativity. There's absolutely no need for it, unless I guess it makes you happy to be that way. Just because you're younger than me & had access to the internet & were aware of the last insured date doesn't make you smarter than me. If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. I remember you, and I remember real well you being negative before, so this is nothing new or surprising. I didn't listen, I refuse to listen to negative people in anything in my life. I think you should apologize to me for your comment. |
Halo I agree with you that you should take your shot, this way you will know that you did everything you could and have no regrets or coulda shoulda woulda after, either way it comes out. you have gotten further than most thought was possible. you may well win.
i say this as someone who has recently accomplished what i knew and set out to prove 10 years ago. i was told by 4 high powered manhattan law firms that i was wasting my time that i would never accomplish what i was trying to get done, that it wasnt possible. well guess what. i did get it accomplished. it took a lot of research and was very hard work, but i feel good and maybe others will be helped based on the work that i did. it didnt involve social security but did involve federal and local agencies. good luck to you. |

how quick someone gets a decision depends on a lot of factors. you must keep in mind that the ssa denies 75% of all claims, therefore, you can expect to be denied then have to appeal. if you are waiting for a hearing, it can take 3-12 months to get a hearing date. that is normal and your case will not be moved up unless you're terminal - and then they don't move real quickly. a lot of people like to think that their disability situation is unlike everyone else and it's not for the most part. everyone has to wait their turn. *edit*
