Dizziness on only one side of the body
Hello all,
I'm writing here because in my country i couldn't find someone with my symptoms and not even the doctors know what happens to me. It all started 4 years ago, after a stressful period and some kind of depression which i tried to treat with some hearb remedies which combined 60 plants. The person who gave the remedies told me they would work for my brain but also for my formonal problems but warned me that i would feel very sick in the first days of the treatment because they clean all my body. And i felt sick indeed. I could not take that treatment because i was feeling more and more sick. From that moment on, i started to have this dizziness and lack of equilibrium sensation like i was on a boat or like the down side of my body was made of water that waved on every move i made. The doctors gave me Cipralex and the "wave sensation" is better but i still have a strange feeling on the right side of my body. It is like a diziness, a lack of coordonation which makes me feel unconfortable when i'm sitting or when i'm standing. Just like my brain doesn't send all the commands to that side of my body. I made 3 MRIs and all the nvestigations needed but nothing seems to be wrong. If so, what do i have to do? I will live with this sensation until i grow old and die? I'm only 27 years old :( Pls help |

I would suggest you get a B12 test done. If you are low, you can have a form of vertigo/dizziness as a common symptom.
You should be over 400pg/ml in US units (don't know the format for testing where you are from however) Also taking so many plant herbs can be dangerous. They can be contaminated with heavy metals or pesticides, even, besides being poisonous in their own right. |
Update
Hello again,
After the blood tests i had 170 pg/ml of B12, but the doctor did not warry at all and didn't even prescribe any treatment. Could you please help me by telling me what dose should i take per day and if you could recommend me any supplement you have taken? Thank you very much! |

The normal was between 200 and 1200.

Does that mean 1700pg/ml? The new cut off for normal in US is 400pg/ml. |
10x is from thanks :))
So, what dose should i take? what do you advise me to do? |
I suggest you start at 5mg a day of active methylcobalamin type B12 oral. Take this only on an empty stomach.
In 3 months get another test if you can to see how much you have changed. You should be above 400 and perhaps as high as 1000 or more. When you reach 1000, you can then reduce to 5mg twice a WEEK or take 1mg a day instead. Somehow you got so low, so you will probably have to take B12 for life. |

Keep in mind there is no guarantee that fixing this will completely fix your problem. There may be other reasons for your issues too.
But in any event, you do need to bring up that B12 level to maintain your health. I wish you the best and do come back and give us here a progress report if you can. ;) |
Hey,
The highest dose i could find was the one from Konig Labiratorium Canada which has 1000 mcg/pill. They say i should take just one /day. Since you suggested 5 mg, should i take 5???? I don't know why here, in Romania, the the doses are so low. I found pills with only 100 mcg and injections with just 50 mcg/not mg. Pls could you suggest a brand of supplement to order online?? 10x :) |
You can use the 1mg (1000mcg) tablets. Start with 2 a day on an empty stomach. It will just take a bit longer to get up to the
levels you need. Not all of that is absorbed...only about 13mcg makes it out of 1000mcg dose into the blood stream. Things in Europe are different from US. They have that Codex thing...which limits what you can purchase. |

MrsD, I took Neuro Optimizer, do you know this supplement? It was very good for my symptoms and i was thinking to combine it with the 2000mcg of B12? Could i do it or i risck to get poisoned? 10x and have a nice weekend! |
Update
Hello all,
I've been taking 2000 mcg a day of b12, for 2 weeks now, and i don't have the dizziness sensation anymore. My problems seem to have been solved, but i'm affraid to be happy about it becous it seems unreal. I though have a small problem, i experience some chest pains and my heart seems to beat a little faster. Could it be a b12 overdose? What do you think? |
No I don't think so.
You don't really absorb that much from the doses you are taking. B12 does improve energy in some people...but we see that mostly from the day of the injections. You might discuss the heart effects with your doctor to see if there is anything there. You can reduce to 1000 mcg a day and see if that changes anything. Once people get up to proper levels, the really high dose is no longer needed. But whatever caused you to get low in the first place is probably still there. You will need some supplement for life perhaps, and if you do it on a regular basis, you won't get low again. But that is good news that you are feeling better generally. Congratulations on that improvement! |
With the 1000 mcg, the dizziness comes back. I tried it.
I will see what happens and i'll keep you posted. Thanks |
2 weeks is not very long... there is probably some healing still going on elsewhere in the body.
You could do 1000 mcg one day, and 2000 the next and alternate. Often there are adjustment periods when fixing low B12... For people with neuropathy, it can take a year or more. |

I have three months now since i have 1000 mcg B12 shots , once a month and i started to feel the improvements in my balance. The bad part is that every 10 days after my shot i start to feel my muscles weak and in pains. i called my doc and he advised me to take a potasium and sodium test and again my b12. I did so and my potasium and sodium levels were normal, but my b12 was 976. Is that too high? The doc said i should stop the shots but i don't want to do so because i just started to feel better :( What do you know about this kind of level. Is it dangerous? I've read that it is the optimum level for nerve recovery... Thank you! |
That level is fine.
When you get the injection, it is the cyano type, and you might not be able to handle that as well as the methyl oral. I don't think you need the injection if you take the methyl every day. If you have the methylation error/mutation and cannot methylate properly (MTHFR), you will be low in folate too. There is a methylfolate called metafolin. Estimates are that 10-30% of people cannot methylate properly because of this DNA mutation. If you had a test close to the injection time, some of your level may be artificially raised. You would have to wait a week for a more accurate result. Just make sure you eat potassium rich foods, and you should be okay. |

Thank you for your answer! I took the test after 10 days since the day i got the shot. Since i've started the injections, i stopped the sublinguals and the injections are hydroxocobalamin. The potasium levels were fine. Why do you say to eat potassium rich foods? Thank you again! |
The test for potassium is not accurate. It can result in artificially raised values. This is called factitious results. This means it is possible for a low reading to measure normal, and a normal level may report high.
If the blood sample is not handled perfectly, the red cells burst and release their high potassium content into the serum. Some labs will report "lysed sample" indicating that the cells have dumped the potassium this way, but not all do this. They can even burst if the tourniquet is too tight when the sample is taken. So you don't really know if your test was perfectly done. Only if you get a low report, can you be fairly sure that the cells are not lysed. So eating potassium rich foods, is basically a good health habit anyway. You need 4500mg a day from food to maintain all the functions in your body. That is quite a bit, and most people don't get that amount anyway. If you are anemic and get a B12 shot, you will possibly stress your potassium levels, because the B12 stimulates new red cell formation quickly, and the red cells consume alot of potassium. Symptoms of this are weakness and muscle cramping. That is why your doctor tested your potassium. |

Thank you! |
I would think that since you had no symptoms from oral use, and you had good levels, why get injections at all?
They do not use the 500mcg injection dose of B12 here in the U.S. Only 1000mcg. The injections provide a fast bolus of vitamin over a 3 day period and then you have nothing, until the next shot. Taking oral you get some every day, however a smaller amount each day, but this is still 3 x the RDA if you use 1000mcg tablets. This is more gentle and mimics the way we get B12 from food. It is your decision, but oral seems best to me. You have to stop the oral too, before any testing. You could ask for an MMA test, to see if you are utilizing B12 properly. If MMA is elevated, that indicates not enough B12 is biologically active. Low MMA means the B12 you have is working. |

I do not take orals since i started the shots, so i guess the B12 level wasn't influenced by any of them. I took the tezt, 10 days after the shot. Anyway, thank you very much! |

I took another test, after stopping any b12 intake and the level was 1250. I stopped taking any sort of pills and shots but i still feel like ****. I guess B12 was not my problem since i have such high levels and my health doesn't seem to improve. Anyways, the shots were hydroxocobalamin so i don't think i had an absorbtion problem or that the body is not using it properly. thank you! |
