panic and depression about teeth

yesterday i really panicked and went into a depression for the first time in a while. to make it worse my friend said dentists were limited to the amount of novacaine they can use. I just went to a site http://denturesanewsmile.ning.com/fo...age=1#comments
and these people talked about having extractions with novacaine and it was reassuring. I tried calling the clinic this morning to see if they were going to use novacaine but i have to call back.

Dd just had her first fillings and was sobbing. They offered her more Novocain, just for a filling. :grouphug:
Don't fret, you will be made comfortable.

Bobby,

Every dentist I have gone to gave me plenty of drugs.
They do whatever they can to make you comfortable.

Bobby

As Mari said, Every dentist I've gone to has given me plenty to make
me comfortable.

I think your friend, is trying to be to helpful. This friend needs to
stop trying to help. You need to go in and just be ready.

Hopefully you can get some answers soon.

thanks so much. I finally got through with bellevue and they said i could take the klonopin and they were going to give me lidocaine. if they were going to sedate me they said a nurse would have told me.

You'll be fine Bobby.

Dentists often give you different sedation options - you can find out about that ahead of time. Sedation will probably cost extra.

If you don't have sedation, most often they offer an anxiolytic to take ahead of time (even for complicated fillings). Before they start working on you, they give you novocaine left and right.

They will check for total numbness before they start work on a given area.

They will wait for the novocaine to kick in, and give more as needed.

Hang in there. It is normal to be nervous, but it will be ok, really it will.

I just read your post about the sedation and the Klonopin. :)

Good job calling about that. I am glad they "approved" the Klonopin, so you can decide for yourself how much to take based on how you feel that morning.

Lidocaine will do the trick. They will give you whatever amount is needed to numb you out.

Beautiful, trust this: You will be fine. Dentists are good giving drugs for no pain :D

No, seriously, my pain umbral is pretty pretty low, I complain all the time about pain, and at the dentist, I never, ever feel anything.... :) So you will be ok.

Lots of hugs !

I go to that site too Bobby, are you getting a denture? You feeling better now that you know you're getting lidocaine? I've had that before and never felt anything, it's over pretty quickly, if you need us we're here for you.

thanks so much for your support. I think i will take two mg of klonopin two hours before i have the teeth extracted. I have been doing so much reading on the net about dentures. I wonder how long it will take for me to get used to the dentures. I wonder how long i will be mostly toothless. I will ask them that when i have my appointment for next wednesday.

Hi i am getting a denture for the top and a partial for the bottom. I read that you don't need a lower denture. That is so great. How long have you been toothless on top? what did they use to extract your teeth.

I had twilight sedation this time around, my first time, I think it was a combo of propafol and something else, I have had every other extraction up to now done with lidocaine though and it always went fine. Very fast extractions, I think taking your klon is a good idea, that way you'll be more relaxed, I hope it all goes well. When will you be going in to have it done? Also it depends, the healing process takes time, but if you're offered the chance to get an immediate denture for the top it might be better, I don't know. I wasn't able to get one, but thank God they covered the avleoplasty, to make my bone ridge smoother so things would go well with fitting the denture. If you can't get a immediate, don't fret, you can make it without one, after about the first month I was still using the food processor for most food, but I was able to eat better because of it. After about the second month I was testing out chewing on the gums and it went well. It's going to be okay Bobby, we're here for you!

I am so happy to say, "Yes! I don't need a denture or partial on the bottoms yet!" I get my top one tomorrow though and I can't wait to share pics of my new smile. I went 5 months without teeth up top, and its been rough, but I've managed, I can even eat pizza and saltine crackers believe it or not. So as long as I can still do that I'll be good, meaning after the new teeth are in. ;)

mymorgy 06-12-2013 04:42 PM

thank you. I am having the extractions next wednesday both upper and most of the lower teeth. then on the fifth of july i have another appointment for the dentures. I don't know how long it will be before i get the temporary dentures.
i will ask next week because if it is a matter of three weeks more to start on the permanent ones, maybe i will wait and save over 500 dollars.
I can't believe you had to go that long before getting your uppers. I bet they will fit great. I thought of using the food processor. I would love to lose weight.
did you at first have trouble talking without your top teeth? you sound so joyous! great for you. can't wait to see your smile.
bobby

Pamster 06-12-2013 05:50 PM

I honestly didn't have much trouble talking, I have a high palette so I think that had alot to do with it. I sure hope you're able to get into teeth quickly. I wanted to wait for the swelling to mostly go down, that's why they do those temporary ones I think, to help manage the swelling and act like a bandage to the extraction sites. I am definitely overjoyed right now because it's going to be awesome having a brilliant smile again! I didn't actually lose any weight, initially I did, but I put it right back on and then some from all the frozen yogurt we were having...But man I needed it to calm my nerves and for nutrition to eat SOMETHING that would comfort me. :) I am sure you'll do great too Bobby. :)

mymorgy 06-13-2013 08:40 AM

that is great that you didn't have trouble talking. I don't know what to expect. i just got on the scale and i gained weight again. here i was thinking of having a lot of ice cream even though i am diabetic. i guess i will restrict the ice cream to the first 24 hours. can't wait to see you smile.

good morning bobby, could you make almond milk smoothies with crushed ice and cocoa powder and splenda or stevia. I will look for a true recipe for you I just saw this on face book yesterday.
bizi

found it!

Have you tried the Skinny Shake before, it tastes like a Wendy's frosty:
3/4 cup Almond Milk
about 15 ice cubes
1/2 tsp Vanilla
1-2 Tbsp unsweetened Cocoa powder
1/3 of a Banana
Blend.
